Great 'Cobra... Even if it IS a Frog-bird, lol..
Time for some updates.
Hawk 81A3
I have the wings together and am currently finishing up the gear and doors. Since I plan on doing this as a dio "Angel Down" from when # 77 had engine failure and was written off I am not spending much time on these underneath areas. As Owl noted and anybody that has built this kit knows the fit of the wings to the fuselage leaves something to be desired. Since there are rivets right next to this joint I went with the caulking so I did not have to sand. I just rub it on with my finger and then use a wet paper towel to smooth it down. Once this is done I dry up the areas around this as there can still be traces of caulking left. Any water that looks milky has caulk in it and needs to go.
Before and After pics with what caulk I use.
Bf109 K
I had planned this as my 4th entry to use up the left over paint I mixed up for the Do335. The paint was wanting to start to harden up in the containers it was in so I have had to start on this one and put the SBD on the shelf. The SBD may get further bumped back as I am just not feeling it at the moment. It was meant to more or less be a test bed for some painting techniques but I have already switched away from the paints I was going to use on it. I have P-39 I plan to do next and just picked up a P-38 kit and want to try my hand at making the night fighter version, although Marge is looking good on the box so I may just have to purchase another one of those. Got to love the Revellogram prices that allow building multiple copies without second thought!
Anyway for the Bf109 I did find some K variants in the colors I used on the Dornier. I figured the G10 could stand in good enough for the K since neither had the bulges over the breeches of the cowl guns. Since I needed to get this done relatively quickly I mostly built it OOB with the exception of putting in a seat pad and some belts. The seat pad I did with a painted piece of tissue to cover up a nasty pin mark in the base of the seat that looks like it would be hard to deal with. I also figured with the Erla hood providing more visual access to the pit some belts would look better in there as well. I built these out of tape. They are way oversized but since this was my first venture into building belts this way I am happy with them. For the scheme I am doing I did need to mix up some RLM "84". I read some where on the web that this was actually RLM 76 and that due to a late war change of the formula the Zinc Chromate that was present in the RLM paints was not as obstructed by the pigments. So I figured a bit of RLM 76 and some ZC ought to do the trick. Sure enough looks close enough to RLM "84" for me to run with. I hope to get at least the green on the top side done this weekend so I can finish this one up next weekend.
Time to get back to work.
Quick update, the S-3 Viking is almost completed, just have to add the harpoons. The Stuka is just waiting for a dull coat, the F-4J "Show Time 100" is about 1/2 done and I found a old, old 1/72 Monogram F-105 that I am about 75% completed on that. Pictues to follow on all of them. I believe that I will be a "made" man.
Ok so here are builds 2 and 3. Build 2 is the S-3 Viking from AMT. I added aftermarket seats, instrument panel, and decals. I sanded down the turbo fan blades and sliced along each blade until they looked to be seperate blades. Unfortunately my photos of this were very blurry and you can not see any of the detail, believe me though it is there.
Build 3 is the Mongram Stuka as a Night Attack aircraft. I got the inspiration for this one from a recent article in FSM. This one pretty much straight from the box, the camo pattern is as close as I could get to the one in the article. I take no credit for the pattern. I robbed the rear gun from a Ju 88 kit and the crosses are painted on.
I must admit that I did not ask Don Hammer if the Stuka would be good for the build but, I believe that it fits the criteria. Also no SALT chipping was used in the course of the build. Any comments welcome.
I love the look of that Stuka!
I missed the story behind the Viking though. I'll have to go back and look for the beginning of the build but I think it came out great.
On Ed's bench, ???
Not much of a story on the Viking. Sludge wash on the panel lines and a lot of masking to get all areas painted. The darker gray was masked off and painted. It actually went together without much trouble. One of those kits that AMT did a good job on.
Was trying to figure out the Monogram link on it.

'Course it did... It's an original, 1960's Monogram kit, even if it was re-boxed or in a Revell box..
I did that kit for the first MMGB...
As one Monogram mafioso to another I thought that it would be good. By the way I just started a Monogram P-38 that is going to be an F-5 version. I am going to come up with my own markings, maybe even invasion stripes. Now if I can figure out how to replicate haze paint...................
Are you guys talking about the Stuka or the Viking?
[quote user="68GT"]
The Stuka. It came out in about 1968. The original kit had 37mm cannons under the wings for shooting up Russian armour on the Eastern front. The marking for the kit I believe were for some guy that shot up like 500 Russian tanks. His name I do not remember at this moment and I am too lazy to go look it up. The Viking came out sometime in the 90's I think.
The "new" Ju87 still comes with the cannons, so you still can do the G-model..
I present to you, my finished P-40 Warhawk, a la "Flying Tigers"

Now that I'm here, where am I??
Nice work Owl!
Science is the pursiut of knowledge, faith is the pursuit of wisdom. Peace be with you.

Lookin` good Missy! The weathering, especially the faded look of the paint is excellent!

EDIT: Pertaining to the AMT Viking Mkelley posted....nice work, BTW!

The finished Viking is a beauty! But the molds are actually of ESCI parentage from the late 70s/early 80s when that company was competing with Monogram for dominance in 1/48 modern jet kits.

thanks guys! I really like how it turned out. To get the final dusty look, I added a bit of thin tan to my flat coat.
Gave it some more thought and I'm going to next build an A-1E as an AD-5 in Blue with white markings. Then I'm going to build an F-88 in black as an all weather interceptor. After the Strike Eagles I wanted to do some thing different.
OK, here is number 4. Mongram's P-38 in 1/48th. A Lightning of a different color. I tried to make my own Haze paint for the F-5 version of the P-38. I think that it ended up looking more PRU blue than Haze. Anyway here it is. Paper seat belts were added and I subbed out new wheels from a Promodeler version of the P-38. Even though the directions do not show how to make the F-5 version all the parts are there. I did a little research and found what I needed. I found a picture of an F-5 with invasion stripes and thought what the heck. The markings are made up as are the serial numbers. My fat thumb wrecked one of the tail serials so it has only one.
I went pretty light on the weathering. Comments welcome.
Hans - some boys knocked on the door real early this morning, suggested I 'might' like to join up.
They won't be paying no visits no more.
Anyways, 1/32 1966 Mustang, photo to be posted later today showing unstarted kit.

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.
Aforementioned photo.
Hitting a bit of a snag with the 109. For some reason the Square bottle gloss coats do not want to cure. The paint keeps wanting to be a solvent of itself and has me a bit stumped at the moment. I may have to strip things (well that shouldn't be a problem!) and start over.
yeah, IVe found the gloss coats dont cover very well....that's the main reason Ive switched to flats almost exclusively.
How long did you wait till you applied the other coat? Those little square bottles are usually kind of thick and take longer to cure when applied by brush since it goes on thicker.
Hey All,
Got some more done on the "Night Lightning".....
As I was photographing my build, I heard a crunch when I took a step back from my bench...take a guess on what it was....
...you got it...the front windshield ! How it got on the floor is a mystery. Although it sounded bad when I stepped on it, it didn`t break, just kinda flattened out a little...should still be usable, I hope.
I hope to be done this one by the end of the week. Comments are welcome, thanks for looking!
I just went through all 26 pages of the family album. Mighty impressive if I do say so myself. Everything from Space Taxis to copters. Lots of great work here. Keep up the good work everyone.

That is with about 2 weeks wait between coats. I mostly just wanted to use up what I had left from the Dornier. Whatever I do the hobby shop is closed until next week anyway, owner on vacation. I may just mix up some MM round enamel flats and do it or I may give the gloss square one more shot. Whatever I do I think at this point I am going to have to strip it and start over.
Good presence of mind to photograph it in situ Len. that was a lucky break !
Cheers
