Well, here is my F4U-2 'Night-Fighter' Corsair.
The kit I'm using for this one is a bargain that I've got as a gift from my GF during our trip to London.
A Hobbycraft Night fighter Corsair, They've made a ton of different corsairs who are now not so easy to find around here anymore.
I had read on the internet that this kit didn't bring to much trouble.
But I couldn't disagree anymore, it is a really difficult plane to make,
I does have a nice amount of detail on the outside and they provide you with the special part that you need to make the F4U-2, but when you put it together, there are cracks and holes everywhere, and the cockpit itself doesn't bring more detail then a airfix or old revell box and is also to big to fit.
As I wasn't thinking about taking pictures of my progress before closing the 2 halves together,
it is a fact that I do not have any pitures of my cockpit...
What I do have, is some pic's of the biggest cracks and holes of this model.
When installing this part behind the cockpit area, it leaves you with a crack that would be way to visible when finished, even with the clear parts mounted on it, so time to take my putty.
The tailwheel-well doesn't come together at all, so I'll have to putty it up.
Also, when the wings are going to meet the fuselage, they won't line up at all.
It is pretty hard to take a decent picture of it, but when you line up the front of the wing, it doesn't fit at the end,
lining up the end of the wings brings the same result at the front.
It also leaves a crack of at least half a millimeter...
I have a plan on making this right, next time I will explain with pictures
and (hopefully) be able to show you the results!
Another bug that I've found with this kit is to be found in the paint sheme instructions.
It shows that (for both planes) you have to use a three-tone sheme that hadn't been used on F4U-2's at all.
(my source tells me that this sheme had (officially) never been used by any version of the Corsairs.)
In reality, The 'line rider' version had a different three tone sheme and 'Black George' (the one I will be building) had the 2 tone sheme.
To end on a positive note, they do provide you with the extra parts you need to replace.
As you can see on the picture, one gun was removed on the right wing of the aircraft to make up for the added weight by the radar.
The F4U-2 version also had a different
exhaust, as you can see in the top-right of the picture,
so Hobbycraft added some parts that are supposed to represent those exhausts. (Number 4 on the sprue)
I think I will try to replace those with some scratchbuild parts.
So I guess that's all folks!
With regards Ninetalis.
