I assume Ken, that your project is going to carry over into the next build? Ha ha, just being funny! I think I am almost done with the weapons, but I still have to finish the doors for the avionics bays and that means *GASP* a few more PE parts! When it's done I will be able to photograph it on this:

Base

Which Sprue Brothers claims is the best they carry. It's 9x12, and they list an 11x17 for about a buck more but of course it's 'out of stock'!

Still haven't made up my mind for the next project. most likely it will be one of my 'already in progress' kits.

Oh yeah, no question about me carrying over the F-4E to the Second Annual Berny Build.  Smile

I am now stuck with a dishwasher project.  Ours died yesterday.  I spent the entire day yesterday shopping for one.  I brought it home and got the old one out.  Today I will install the new one.  Then I can get back to modeling again.

Yep, only 4 more days until we move over to the next build!

So true about the last minute stuff Ken; one is always tempted to cut corners when one sees the finish line! As far as AIM-9's, sorry to admit but I too had no knowledge and I was around them on F-15's for years. Well at least I wasn't a weapons troop or it would be truly pathetic!

Hi Everyone,

Last night was our monthly local IPMS meeting.  Another great time!  They always end too soon.

I am still grinding away at making the cockpit, avionics bay, and front wheel well fit in that small space inside the front fuselage.  I know I keep saying it, but it is getting closer.  The last thing I want to do is sand through one of the pieces or break one.  And it is so tedious.  I can only stand doing it for so long before I need a break from it.

Ken

Steady as she goes, Ken! You're doing the right thing taking your time and doing it right. Looking forward to seeing the results of your labor of love Big Smile.

Great work there once again Jim!  Those decals look real smooth.  Thank you for the information on the Sidewinders.  I would not have known that.  It would have sucked to put all that work into putting that together and have something like that come back to bite you.

And I totally agree with you about the waiting for paint, glue, and even the mail delivery of something when you discover that something just like the Sidewinders isn't right.  A really sweet setup would be to have a multiple workstation setup where you could have a project going at different workstations!

Ken

I usually have a couple of kits going at once for this reason, but with working extra hours and all, I had to put my efforts into just one. As far as the sidewinders, I would have never known if I hadn't run across a review or some posting somewhere about them. I would have been oblivious about them.

Oooo! Countdown is on! Still hung up in all the dangling bits and pieces!

I'm no expert, but checking references, the kit supplied sidewinders resembled AIM-9D's which were used by the Navy, so I pulled some B's from a Hasegawa weapons set. The black-nosed ones are the D's. Also some small decals added to the MER's. I saw a post at another forum which said the kit supplied Sidewinders were incorrect,  so there I went.

Also decals on the MK-82 bombs. Waiting for everything to dry so I can dull coat. (How much of our lives is spent waiting for paints, or glue to dry?)

Hey Ken, thanks for the info. I just finished an M4A3 late production Sherman so I'll post some pics to the new thread when time permits. Next up is another tank, this time a T-34/76. I've been on an armor jag of sorts lately; think I've built more tanks this year than the last 5 combined!

Hey all, been away for the last few days and just now checking in. I'm sitting in my favorite chair enjoying a fine English ale and watching a movie called "The Battle of Britain". It's from the 60's but the action sequences are fantastic for the time period. I recommend it if you get a chance to see it. BTW what is going on with part II of the Berny build? Somehow I missed the announcement.

Hi Mike,

No problem, I am happy to repost the link.  You can carry over anything you are building now to the next build or select something new or both!  Just click this link:

http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/29/t/151972.aspx?sort=ASC&pi240=1

and announce what you will be building!  It starts next Saturday.

Now I'm sooooooooooo tempted to change my kit in the Berny II GB to a B-25 Mitchell or B-26 Marauder.....

That is one superfine flying weapons platform there Cliff. Also, all the questions I had concerning the pics were asked by others but have all been answered now. Thanks for sharing the result of some obviously meticulous and talented work!

Hey thanks guys!

Jim: The yellow thingie is an inflatable rubber life raft brightly coloured for air-sea rescue. The tarmac is a printed piece of cardboard, I think this one was made by Verlinden. You should be able to find one by searching most hobby suppliers with the word 'tarmac'. I know Sprue Brothers has them.

Russ: Lol, nope just plain old SW Virginia - I was telling some folks that if you've seen the TV show 'Moonshiners' I live in the same county as Tim and Tickle. Saw Tim at the local lake once but didn't get a chance to say hello.

Ken: If you're ready to update the front page any photo should be ok, pick the one you think works best.

Gamera

Looks good to me Jim! I don't know much about these fancy-dancy new-fangled ordinance they hang off these planes without props on the nose. In my day a bomb just falls off and goes BOOM! Wink

Ken: Guess it's like Michelangelo- to create a F-4 sand off everything that doesn't look like a F-4 Angel

I did get some more photos of Miss Havoc. I still didn't get a good photo of the skull on the nose with the gun sticking out of the eye sockets. I like natural light but I may have to go inside.

I still think you did a great job on her Cliff!  The panel lines came out really nice and the decals look really smooth.  I especially like this black and white shot, it looks like an actual picture from WWII!

Nice Havoc! I admit I don't know much about them planes with those spinney things on the front, so I have to ask what the yellow thing is behind the pilot seat...

Also, it the tarmac pre-made or did you make that? I want something I can pose my creations on.

I am still working on sanding, filing, test fitting, and repeat.  It is getting closer.  I think I said that before!  Smile  I ran out of sand paper so I need to stop by the store and get some more.  My hands are sore.

Customizing!  I used to do it all the time with cars.  Dealing with things that did not want to fit and making them.  I think I will save it on future projects for kits I really want to have the extra detail on.  Of course I am really going overboard on this one.

Well, still working on the fiddly bits.

Painting AIM-9's, and the tail hook. It gets a set of stripes that will be a pain.

FLIR pod and fuel tank. Configurations I was able to find shows the A-7D's carrying the pod under the right wing and the tank on the left. FLIR pods were normally carried by E's but 48 D's and some 2 seat K's were upgraded to carry the pod. I'm going to assume this D was one of the upgraded ones. Couldn't find much in the way of references as to the color of the pod, other than Navy birds and a few b&w and blurry color photos-so green it is. Also, not sure if this is the correct AIM for the D. I will have to check references. There is a clear lens goes in the front of the pod, so I put gloss black behind it.

MER' and some MK82's. Not sure if I will stay with this configuration or something different, such as an MK83 or 84 under each wing. 82's are done all the time.

Plus, I did start the 82's. Resources show the 7's would carry a 'slant 4' configuration with the inboard racks empty due to possible collisions with the fuel tanks on release, so only 8 are being done here.

Also doors going on here...

With one slight error; what color should that small door be? Ah, well! Back to the paint shop!

Too bad they didn't add any detail to the rear part of the wheel bay.

Thanks guys. I do what I can, I guess.

A bit more work on the gear: Cemented in place. You can see my exhaust tube for the air conditioning. Took hours to sand and file a piece of brass tubing down thin enough to look closer to scale. Several of my attempts collapsed on me, before I got it done.

Here is a bit of fun with the "High-contrast Monochrome" setting on the camera. We used to call that.... oh, yes! Black-and White!

And also, I assembled the Aim-9's. The opposing fins have to be cemented in, and HobbyBoss was able to mold in quite a bit of detail for this scale this way.

I can see I missed scraping a seem there on the upper missile! This camera does has its uses!

I seem to be making better progress than I first thought. Maybe I'll come closer to finishing it for the close of the build after all.

Jim

Jim, I used to have to check the lugs on the tractor-rigs I drove, so the weathering detail on those wheel bolts really pops for me.

Hey, after seeing the welds on the real air-conditioning tube, and the hand-bent metal, that brass looks

down-right clean!

That middle seam running down that Side-Winder looks realistic, like some kind of external wiring!....lol...

Maybe it's because I am a product of the 50's, but the B&W at first glance looks like the real deal.....it's always cool to get tricked for just a split second, that's what this hobby is all about.Cool

Jim. the Corsair II you've done is very well represented. The paint colors are spot on as near as I can remember especially the avionics bays and the wash in the panel lines makes everything pop out so nicely. One really gets a feel for how beefy the undercarriage is as well as the overall robust build of the jet. Thanks for the pics!
