ARMOR - M1 Abrams Group Build
Posted by M1abramsRules on Monday, February 9, 2004 1:32 AM
ok this group build was thought up the end of november, but as the sherman build was found to be coming up we decided to wait until spring. so I thought maybe a starting date of March 15 and an end date of June 15 (I know this is coinciding with the towed gun, but we decided to have this in spring, so spring it is.).

any company, any scale, any version.

all aftermarket is legal (Wink [;)])

I do not have hosting abilities, so this build will not have the fancy pages some of the other builds have had. so we'll just have to use ron's page to upload

personally, I'll be doing dragon's USMC m1a1 (heavy armor)
and personally, I think my 72nd revell abrams will still be awaiting the final assembly so i'll finish that up as well.

so let's get those AGT-1500 turbines roaring!!! Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Never participated in a group build before. I just bought an Abrams about a week ago. What are the rules if any? I'd like to participate.

I'm in. I'll use Revell/Matchbox's 1/72 offering, with bits from the Dragon kit and a scratchbuilt engine pack.

Chris, I might join you on this one. Depends on how the Firefly, Panther and Tiger are doing. I would probably use the Trumpeter M1A2 (or is it an A1??), but that could change. I've also got one of the Dragon 1/72 kits. But I've got it partially assembled.

I'll join or not as the time gets closer.

Thanks for heading it up.

we have one hunting season in the spring and that's snow goose. but for some reason or another we never go, and I don't care that much. just get them on the way back. Big Smile [:D] the rest of our seasons are continuous from the last weekend in august to the first weekend in december.

I may do more for this build too. I just ordered hasegawa's 2 m1's (along with other models) from the LHS. with the service he provides they'll be here probably next week.

ooooooooh! I'm tempted to finish both my DML M1A2 and my Trumpeter M1A1HA. Now that I'm moved in, I may actually be able to also!

oh yeah !
i'm SO there !
(i've been waiting patiently 2 develop my skills before getting the modern armor
assembly line going, but i think i'm just about ready now)
in the meantime, i've collected a couple of abrams kits in 1/72
& even some in 1/35...
so in the meantime, i'll b looking 2 figure out which kit i'll b building.
most likely revell germany 1/72 M1A1 HA,
but i've got time 2 decide.
who knows, maybe we could convince Major G. 2 host this one !

I'm in. I have Dragons M1A1 HA. Also Italeri's M1A2. Could we expand the finish to May 15. That way some of us might be able to do both group builds.

Cool I'll be building my Trumpeter/Hobby Craft M1A1(?) with mine rakes. It's partially assembled but being a newbie I probly needed the head start anyway!lol

I've got two of Tamiya's; the original M1 and the M1A1. I'll do the old one just like my first real one. That'll be nice and I think I can get it done in the time frame. I've got to finish a Nascar car I'm doing as a gift for my daughter in law. Oh, by the way, Nascar cars are awful, won't be doing that ever again.

Domi:
any talk of building in 1/35 is really just 2 keep me from feeling 2 silly 4 buying kits
i won't have space 2 display if i ever do get around to building them ! LOL...
i think my heart & soul r totally with the small scale thing
not 2 mention whatever little skill i have.
i will b honored 2 keep u company, mon ami !

I picked up the Trumpeter M1A2 kit (I think it's a little inaccurate, but whatever), and I've been waiting for an opportunity to build it. This sounds like fun, so what better way to join a forum then to participate in my first GB.
I'm not really a fan of aftermarket products (namely cuz I can't afford them Big Smile [:D] ) so I'm going to build this straight out of the box.
I'd like some suggestions for paint schemes...

Welcome zokissima. Yes a group build is a great way to introduce yourself and meet the forum. I'm doing mine in Desert Storm Sand. The only other color I'm familiar with is the three color camo, which I don't the names of the colors. I'm more WW II, so I should learn a lot about the M1.
