Well my tiger took a dive off the table last week so I've been repairing it, shouldn't take all but tonight to be back where I was plus a little bit. Need to do some touch up airburshing, finish the tracks then decals.

Ouch, don't need that WW2.

I put the Me 109 to one side for a couple of weeks. But I have the undersides painted and getting the top camo done this weekend. So should have some pics in a couple of days.

Tamiya 1/700 Scharnhorst is all done. Except for weathering, railing and rigging - minor details when building a ship. Should be done before December.

I finally got my prop yesterday:

Everything looks nice and the molding is really crisp!

My Cobra is ready for some primer, but I will wait untill I get my December issue of Finescale. There is a tutorial in it on how to achieve a well weathered OD finish and I want to have a look at that article first before spraying some paint on her.

Here's how she looks right now:

I will finish this Cobra, but I won't have the time for the secon one...

Cheers, Clemens

Eric, she is looking really nice.

SS, looking good there. I haven't read through that OD article yet, but it looks interesting. I will certainly be having a proper read of that.

Thanks, mate!

The fit of the canopy was horrible. There is a step all the way around where it attaches to the fuselage. Should I try to even it out? If yes, any tips on how to do so?

Nice Airacobra Clemens! I like that resin prop and spinner. I gotta build me a P-39 soon, but will go with the Hasegawa kit. Not sure on the canopy, can you post a pic? What I have done is take some Mr. Surfacer 1000 and apply it with a toothpick around the canopy, then let it dry an hour, and take a q-tip dipped in Mr. color thinner and blend in the surfacer with the canopy and fuselage.

Eric, your Scharnhorst looks outstanding! That camo scheme really looks killer!

Clemens, your P-39 is coming along quite nicely. I look forward to seeing what you will do to the OD for the war worn look on it.

Nathan: Here are some pics of the canopy. The step goes all the way around and is kinda big in some areas:

The spinner is really nice indeed with a chioce of 4 gun barrels: 3 37mm barrels (one with a barrel shroud, one with a cover for the gap between the barrel and the spinner and one is just the plain barrel) as well as a Hispano barrel for Cobras armed wih a 20mm gun.

It also eliminates the problem I had with the kit-supplied spinner: That one was a bit too small, while the resin spinner seems to have the correct diameter to fit the nose.

I think the Hasegawa kit uses the same molds, but I'm not sure on that one...

Thanks for the pics Clemens. Not sure if filler would work so well. It would take a fair amount to cover the step, but also to blend everything into the fuselage again. You'd have to sand the step down some being careful to not scratch the clear parts. I think those skinny sanding sponge sticks would work ok for this. Maybe with a thicker primer coat it might not even look as bad. You could just leave it alone.

The Hasegawa kit is diff. from the Eduard kit. Seperate tooling and everything. I haven't built either kit before, but Hasegawa seems to be my preference in most things. Online reviews don't seem to shed much light on which kit is superior. So I guess its left up to the builder who's built both of them...?

I have some flex-i-file sanding sticks (the thin ones), so I'll try to use those...

Eric, that Scharnhorst looks great, and I like your confidence regarding rails and rigging on these small scale ships. Yes

------------------------------------------------

The P-39 is looking good too.  Maybe a gradual build up of future would help the canopy issue?  You can always sand it flush afterwards, and bring back the clear look.

Hers' a comparison between Eduard and Hasegawa:

Hey  SchattenSpartan, can you take a picture of the bottom of the plane? Under the nose where the wings attach to the fusalge, I have that kit and I think it had a molding problem.

Love the Scharnhorst. I built that kit in the 80s, it's nowhere near as good as yours.

Strangely, I don't think I've ever managed to build a P-39. Keep it going Clemens, I getting into your build.

I finished my Sd Kfz 232, as it fought in the Battle of Kursk in 1943. I hope you like it.

Cheers

Tony

taxtp - good looking build there, and excellent job with those camou lines.  It's a bit surprising these types of vehicles were still soldiering on at this point.

Jack

I'm not sure if this is where I should put this or not, but It seems the most logical place for it.

I was just thinking about what I'm going to do for my 1944 GB. then I thoiught Is there going to be a 1944 GB?

At  the present time, I am unable to host another GB. So, If anyone wants to host it, they should be thinking about it, 1944 oops I mean 2014 is coming up real soon. Even though, I am unable to host, I will however help out when ever and where ever I can.

I'd like to see it continue on, someone would have to take over for Bud. But I think a feeler needs to go out first, as participation is hard to gauge with all the new gb's out there or starting up Jan. 1st.

Sub did say earlier this year he was planning on doing it, but he also said he might be away for a bit at the end of the year.

Is anyone in touch with him. Failing that maybe we could do a feeler in lieu of his return.

My problem is I'm in too many GBs now, and I don't do crossovers cause I think it dulls the excitement for me, so I'm not sure if I could partake. If I did, it wouldn't be til the later half of the build(assuming it goes a full year), and if other people couldn't participate til the later half also, it would make for a slow start. I'd say wait and see If Bud can come back the first part of Jan...

I am not keen on crossovers either. I have done a couple, but to me it feels like I am cheating, 2 badges for the price of one, so I am determined not to do any more.

I know what you mean, a lot of GB's going on at the moment. But I do think its calming down a bit. Maybe if we wait till the end of Nov, and if he isn't back, do a feeler thread on his behalf, at least then we can get a feel if theres enough interest.

Well I for one am sure interested in a 1944 GB. But I am planning an all inclusive Vietnam GB (air, land, & sea) starting in August next year to co incide with the 50th anniversary of Tonkin Gulf. And my current Latin American Aircraft GB will still be running thru May. I can run a 1944 GB if nobody else steps up to do it. I am not planning on leaving here.

Like I said, I am definatley interested in a "44" GB. And, I still will help out if need be.

I remember hearing a catch phrase the guys had for 1945: "Home alive in 45" Did they have one for 44?

I doubt it... everybody was in "for the duration", and the end of the war was not in sight until early 1945... Except perhaps for a few weeks in late summer 44 in Europe

I started decaling the tiger last night, only two more to go. One of the decals looks like it started to come up after I made sure it was pressed flat. I already sprayed a flat coat over it. Not sure if there is anything I can do but I'm going to mist some of the base coat over all the decals before I'm done, maybe it will help make it look better.

Its not 100% done but I'd say 98%, just needs some touching up with the air brush and to add the machine gun along with the tow cables on the side.

Ok guys, finally got photobucket working, so time for a few pics.

Monogram P-47D razorback. If you don't mind the raised panel lines, this kit isn't that bad at all. Especially when you conside I got it on ebay for $7 with free shipping.. Anyways, if I were to make this model again, I would try to find an older boxing (maybe the mid 70's white box) because these molds are showing some age. The date on the stamp says 1967. But with some sanding of parts, dry fitting, and patience, the fit is still pretty good.

Here's the cockpit box. Not great detail, bit it will do, for me at least. This was also my first attempt at dry brushing, and I already learned a few things while attempting this, so I believe next time results will be better.
