Here's what I've done so far on the DKW motorcycle:

the left side

the right side

the upper frontal view

Since this is a zombie build, I'll need weapons, right? How about....

an H&K MP5 SD2 w/telescopic sight

Remington 870 12-ga pump shotgun

and a silenced pistol

Now to look for a bayonet....

Top 10 Lessons for Surviving a Zombie Attack

  1. Organize before they rise!
  2. They feel no fear, why should you?
  3. Use your head: cut off theirs.
  4. Blades don’t need reloading.
  5. Ideal protection = tight clothes, short hair.
  6. Get up the staircase, then destroy it.
  7. Get out of the car, get onto the bike.
  8. Keep moving, keep low, keep quiet, keep alert!
  9. No place is safe, only safer.
  10. The zombie may be gone, but the threat lives on.

I know the end date has come and gone....but according to #10.....the threat lives on!  After reading the above list, and taking #7 to heart, I'll be starting on a motorcycle this weekend. Not one oft those obnoxiously loud Harley that the owner's made an illegal mod to...but a nice vintage bike that can take to the off road when needed, without any problem, to lose the walkers.

I have the following in my stash....

  • WLA (1942 Harley-Davidson)
  • BMW R75
  • Zündapp KS 750
  • DKW NZ 350
  • Kawasaki (?)

I'll be going with the NZ 350, as it has dual saddle boxes, 2-seats and a luggage rack.Huh?

Thanks guys. I don't wish to cause any drama here, so moved it over to Sci- Fi. Thanks for the compliments. This is really a fun build, realistic or NOT:)

If I may jump in for Dogfish he's already posted over on the SF forum. His zombie fryer is painted and I'm waiting for his next update with weathering. Looks pretty darn snazzy so far IMHO.

Yes, the rules of the GB are "what your neighbor could do". I toyed with that phasing for a long time because one of my neighbor is a retired marine that is really handy with building things and another builds his own 4X4s. So then I thought, "there's a National Guard unit not too far away, wonder what I could find there...."

In the end, I decide to stick to "what I could reasonably do" because I wanted to keep it 'real' (TWD real).

So is Dogfish's car totally out of the scope of the GB? probably, unless he's got some really handy neighbors. Then you get into the weight/suspension issues and 'where does one find a flame thrower these days...".

Dogfish,

If you decide to not continue the GB, please start a Sci Fi thread cuz I think the car is still pretty damn cool.

Besides, where the heck would I get ammo fir the helicopter rocket pod?!  I really doubt my local Costco or WalMart carry them! Huh?

Yes because finding a rocket pod is harder than to find ammo for it...
If you can get your hands on something like that, it isn't hard to get ammo.
Also, I said getting onto military bases, got enough ammo for months.
And the rocket pod is just an example, I think that putting a freakk'ng rocket pod on a car isn't easier than installing a 50 cal on your hood...

And don't think people from the middle east are any handier than your next door neighbor, but okay, if this doesn't convince anybody...

Ninetails: I beg to differ, you should take minute and re-read Stephen's premise/requirements for the GB:

"◦Kit-bashing artillery pieces onto your base vehicle isn't something your neighbor could do so don't add it to your model.

◦You CAN kit-bash weapons all you want, but make sure it's within the scope of conceivable realism."

What you've pictured is what is referred to as "Technicals" - they are quite popular in the Middle East and Africa since the Toyota Wars in the mid-80s.

Although those are great vehicles for fighting a guerilla-style hit & run war, they are the last weapons (except the 12.7mm MG on the Hillux) I'd use to fight a zombie apocalypse.  Besides, where the heck would I get ammo fir the helicopter rocket pod?!  I really doubt my local Costco or WalMart carry them! Huh?

Best regards....

Greg H

I'm sorry but I really need to say something on this,
He stated that no canons or so were allowed to be put on the cars because 'it wouldn't be like that in real life', I think that if you look at the cars that are beeing used as gun platforms in the wars at the moment, then there is more than enough proof that it wouldn't be so hard to get your hands on such things when everything is deserted and left behind...

want some 'real' proof?

Yes, that is a rocket pod from an aircraft on there...
And these guns are beeing used in such ways that when the car is wrecked, they just take the weapon and put it on a car that does work...

So, would it be possible?
With regards, Ninetalis.

No that doesn't matter, that Stephen isn't still running it. I abide by the rules and will not post any further on this build. I hadn't read the part you showed me. I thought it was a fun build. Sorry about that guys.

Well, since Stephen isn't running the GB anymore there's no one really enforcing the rules. So frankly Bruce you can pretty much do whatever you want!

Hmmmmmmmm ..... obviously must have missed that part. Well, she does have a Hemi. Allot of tanks didn't have that and they're real heavy. If this disqualifies me, then so be it, but I'm still going to burn the suckers. Because if you wanted realism, then why are we responding to ZOMBIES????!Indifferent

Actually I'd think setting them on fire would be a good way to get rid of zombies! I can see weight issues plus the big problem is you probably don't want to be shooting napalm all over the road in front of you! Indifferent

Bruce: please tell me your not serious....think of the weight issues on that chassis with the armor plate then the addition of the flamer.  Besides, it takes a shot to the head to kill the walker/biters.  I admit a man-portable flamethrower would be good to dispose of the bodies post-mortem.

Remember the premise behind this GB.....

Stephen_Social

Anyone interested in joining me on a "Civilian Zombie Outbreak Response Vehicle" group build? Taking inspiration from World War Z, The Zombie Survival Guide, The Walking Dead, anything that inspires you!

The basic premise would be as follows: (I don't like calling them rules)

What Can Be Used?

  • Build in any scale you please, but I'll be building in 1/25.
  • Any vehicle which a normal civilian would own or could readily obtain in the event of a zombie outbreak can be used.
    • (I'm leaving this open because I know people could come up with some crazy stuff! I'd love to see a variety of vehicles ranging from cars & trucks to buses, bikes, semi-rigs, boats, even planes, etc.)

REALISM (As much as possible given the subject matter)

  • All vehicles should be modified in a fashion which an actual civilian could modify their own vehicle. (So no zombie killing death ray devices)
  • Kit-bashing artillery pieces onto your base vehicle isn't something your neighbor could do so don't add it to your model.
  • You CAN kit-bash weapons all you want, but make sure it's within the scope of conceivable realism.

The Caddy is looking good! Managed to get the custom interior done to my taste. The TVs are all in as well as the sound system. Now I can concentrate on my armor.

Alrighty, now.... I managed to get a bit of work done on the Caddy. Yeah

I've been debating for awhile now on what would be the best compromise between protection from the walkers and yet still allows teh use of weapons from inside the vehicle.  Well, I came up with .060 angle and .035 rod(rebar) on the rear passenger windows.

Here's a pic of the interior mounted on the chassis

I'll be adding tulle to the rear-side cargo windows to simutale fencing.

Comments encouraged & welcome!

That's right, but Black Chrome is easy to clean! ( RIGHT!) I opted for the red leather interior, for obvious reasons:)
