Looks like you guys had fun.  My puter kicked the dust late last summer so I haven't been around much, or felt like building since the Nats.  This would've been a nice kickstart.  Congrats to all who finished.

Ready, Steady, Go!

I've gone for the Azur GAL Monsopar, not to many bits, and more importantly there's not much info out there about the Monospar which means i won't get sidetracked trying to add detail!

Congrats on the completed kits and happy new year to all!

Apologies for being away for so long.  Just when I thought things were going to be calm for the holidays, things got really dramaful ( someone else's dipCensoredery, no other word for it, that caused a lot of problems for a lot of people ) and had to be dealt with.  Things are finally calming down and I should be able to take care of updates here tomorrow, as well as finally get some time at the bench..

Great job Greg, it looks the part.  I think it's a good challenge to accomplish that in two short days.

Have a Happy New Year too.

Cheers

Well, I actually got the Pak40 finished with a few minutes to spare! Yeah

After viewing these pics, I realized I need to touch up the tires and paint the tail light - but I'm calling this one finished.

Tony: Congrats on finishing the Gato! Toast  It looks awsome. Bow Down

I actually toyed with getting a sub....maybe for next years.

Ernest: thanks for the compliment.

Tony - Wow!  You banged that sub out in record time and it looks great!  Paint scheme and weathering are awesome!  YesYes  Glad to see you finished another one!  It was a fun GB!

Greg - Nice choice on the PAK 40!   Looks like its coming along really well and I like how you built the carriage on the sprue...I'll have to try that sometime!  Funny, I was actually considering building this exact same kit for the GB if I had the time.

Well, its been fun guys!  With all the other GBs I'm trying to finish up by the end of the year, I won't have time to do another build for this GB before it ends. Sad  Still I managed to get two in so that's something!

Here's the finished model, USS Wahoo, August 1942. These AFV Club subs are outstanding, this is the 2nd one I've built and I've thoroughly enjoyed both.

In the end I've finished comfortably, which is largely due to a quietish weekend and an understanding family. I hope you like it.

Good progress Greg, I hope you get through it all today.

Whilst researching the colour scheme for my Gato overnight, I found that USN Submarines were painted according to 'Measure 9' in 1942. Measure 9 was dull black overall, although the hull below the waterline could be in whatever anti fouling paint was current.

The profile of USS Wahoo in Squadron's 'Gato Class Submarines in Action' shows the whole hull to be in dull black, so in the absence of other information, that's the ship I am depicting. There ewere no hull numbers, so it's down to the weathering now.

The conning tower's of these Gato class boats evolved throughout their long service life, and were modified during their service career. THe conning tower of the USS Wahoo in August 1942 matched that depicted by this kit.

Cheers

okay folks...after 12-hours, here's where I'm at:

the trunnion is almost ready for the gun tube

The gun tube & partially complete shield

I built the carriage on the sprue for easier painting.  Still need to add the replacement shovel. This is the underside

and the top side

now it's bed time & I'll be up in 6-hours to give another dunkelgrau coat and head off to a pre-New Year's eve modelling party , where I hope to finish the construction phase.

Thanks for looks....comments always welcome

I'll look forward to seeing your Pak 40 Greg, I've never built one. Almost at the end of day one, the construction is complete. I'll give it all some matt black before I go to bed tonight.

Cheers

Tony: the GATO's looking good, so far.

I started my Pak 40...then 5-minutes into the build, I realized I forgot to take the initial pics!  Bang Head So I stopped and took these two:

The light grey & black parts are from a DML kit.  I'm thinking the open-wheels might look better. Huh?

Now back to the build....

After 5 and a bit hours of dedicated effort, the plastic construction is done. Etched brass to come, but I'm taking a break first. My strategy for completing this revolves around getting the first of two colours down tonight.

Hi guys,

I'm going to attempt my Gato class sub this weekend, starting tonight or tomorrow morning, depending on when I get home tonight.

Kugai, Greg, sorry to hear about your troubles.  Its tough enough trying to build in a frenzy, but if parts break, get lost or life in general gets in the way its darn near impossible to complete a build.  Black Eye  There's still time left for another attempt though....hopefully it will all work out.

I'm off work the entire week after Xmas.   Dave's little Firefly is inspiring me to attempt one of my 1/72 Dragon Armor Pro series....Surprise  If I have time to fit another build in I'll let you know!

Oh, and I found the darn ammo box!  Somehow it wound up underneath one of my rolling drawers next to my bench!  I dusted it off and added it to the Bulldog.  BTW, that's not the kit .50 MG.... the kit MG was pretty lame, so during assembly I swapped it with one from a Dragon M4A1/76 kit I had in the stash which included the ammo tray and box.

I wasn't able to finish the RSO, either.... Had a drive sprocket break while I was installing it. Oops  Looks like I'll be working on Tamiya's Vierling 38 for attempt numba four - how appropriate. Huh?

Sorry I was away so long, guys.  Some RW stuff came up that's kept me busy.

Unfortunately, I didn't get the Nighthawk done in the 48 hours, and still haven't found that adapter, so no pics yet of the attempt.  When I do get what I need together, I'll go ahead and post it here since it was an attempt.

Gotta get to work, so I'll have to wait til tonight to update things.

Thanks to everyone who's participated so far!

Hoo Wee!!  I am beat!!  Another one down to the wire and I've been working practically nonstop since 9 this morning.  My back is killing me!!  Anyway the M41 Walker Bulldog is done....finished at 8:35 pm.  The only problem is I can't find the .50 cal ammo bin/box.   Its done, but I couldnt' find it when the model was done....Huh?.  Spent 20 minutes looking for it, oh well it will turn up.

Here you go!  With markings this time!

That was fun Kugai!  Lets do it again next year!
