EW, I'm getting the feeling that you like the General's product ! THe Build Roster has your 57 Bel Air listed, and the Cameo completed. You are flying. That's an interesting colour combo for the Jag, I'll look forward to seeing how the thing looks. Nice start, BTW, the rims look ok too.

Cheers

Tony

Hi Tony.

You can use that photo for the truck. It is done except the wood grain in the bed. I'm still working out a way to get the channels and quilting pins to stay straight so when I cut the sharp ends off they don't wiggle. I bought some sheet styrene so I am going to cut a piece to match the bed and then drill the holes. I think that should be stable enough to keep the pins straight. It looks neat. The quilting pins look like chrome carriage bolts. :) I will post a pic of the bed when that part's done.

Here's some of the progress I've made on my Jag. The body is Boyd Chezoom Teal and the running boards are going to be Classic Black. I also have the running boards sanded to include a rectangle of bumps on each side that may be for dual spare tires or something. I filled in all the pin marks underneath and still need to sand those out.

Got the body and wheels primered. It took a lot of sanding to get the sharp lines out of curved part.

Got the body painted.

Got the wheels painted.

And I have the chrome soaking in bleach to strip it. :)

I have a long weekend this week so I hope to get a lot done. I also have an AMT 1957 Bel Air I'm working on that my son got me for Father's day. You can add it to the list if you like Tony :) (Yep I will have them all done by the dead line hehehehe

Thank all,

Eric.

Hey folk,

I'm just back from a couple of weeks of business travel. I thought I would be able to continue updating this GB whilst travelling, but just didn't get the chance.

That's look pertty smart EW, is that the final picture for the Build Roster ? I really like the paintwork and the chrome, which I know you've redone. The bright blue brake calipers caught my eye too, nice detail.

Here's to a good 2nd half of the year and GB, let's see if we can get a few more done.

Cheers

Tony,

Your Jag is looking great!

I had a blast on my camping trip. Can't wait for next year. :)

Here's a picture of the 55 Cameo. The truck itself is done. I still had some issues getting the windshield in ( had to use tape to hold it in and some of the glue ran out of the gap into the corner of the windshield) but at this point I'll live with it hehehe. I just need to finish up the wood grain and channels for the bed.

Later,

Eric.

I've finally got back to my Jaguar XJR-9LM, since it's been a while, I'll post a picture of what it should look like.

Hasegawa released four different versions of the Jaguar XJR-8 and XJR-9. Once I complete this one I will have completed them all. It's taken me 22 years to get there though. Indifferent

I've actually got a couple of resin ones now, which I'll slowly add to the collection, and Tamiya did a full detailed version of the same car, but I'm waiting for the day when I feel like going details mad on it before adding that one.

Getting back to the Hasegawa series, they did a series of 24 1980s era Group C Endurance and Le Mans racers. The kits are great fun to build, don't take too long and allow you to go for a lot of very pretty schemes. One day I'll get through them all, think I've done six of them so far.

The body has been prepped, primed (a couple of times) and has the gloss white on. Next step will be to mask the purple areas and spray them.

The chassis is sprayed, the wheels are done, I need to paint the details of the cockpit and continue with a few other things.

Cheers

I've just been to look at the build roster. It's a really good looking array of finished models. Keep up the good work guys. Hope you're enjoying it as I am.

All of this talk about Jaguars jolted me into action with my Jaguar XJR-9LM. I cleaned up, sanded, filled, sanded again ,primed and sprayed the undertray, and also cleaned up and sanded the body ready for some primer tomorrow.

I'll try and do some photos then, it's a bit late now.

Cheers

Great work on the windshield Eric. It looks good enough now. I agree with you on the bumper  and grille. I'm really taken with that pickup, they're usually not my thing but yours is exceptional. Enjoying the camping trip.

I've updated the Build Roster with your Jag.

Rommelkiste, I've added a photo of the Porsche to the Build Roster as well, and added your intended Stutz. I'll be fascinated to see it , I have no idea what that kit would be like. That leaf suspension looks heaps better with your improvements.

Not much progress here, will try toget some done on the weekend.

Cheers

rommelkiste,

I would have never thought of doing that with the springs. Thanks for the tip. It really makes them stand out. I still can't get over over how great your farm truck looks. :)

Also, I got this in the mail today. I am a happy camper. This one will wait until I have all the others done and a few more techniques worked out (airbrushing etc...).

Later,

Eric.

Good save on the windshield wheeler!  Tony, this is my third and last choice for the build, Lindbergs 1/16 1914 Stutz.  Its a pretty simple kit but I think it has potential for some scratch building and extra detail.  My research shows the racing versions with the artillery style wheel so I can keep the kit item and not go to the trouble of lacing each one.  I should be able to fit this one in between everything else and still get it done.  After looking the kit over I have some ideas and tried one on the front spring.  The kit item looked a little bulky with little detail so I modified it with some strip and brass.  I think it will work out ok.  I will also replace the floorboards with real wood as on the 1:1 car.  More pics as I get more done.  By the way, Tony, you can use either pic of the porsche that pulls your trigger or I can post up another, your call

Crisis averted. I was able to sand off the glue smears and after dipping it about 3 or 4 times in floor wax it actually came out pretty clear.

rommelkiste,

I would eventually like to try something like lacing wire wheels, but I just recently got back into building after a 15-20 year break and don't think I'm to that point yet. I would like to see how it's done though. I am just amazed at all the nifty stuff that's available now. Today I was looking through the Plastruct catalog and saw some hexagon rod. I immediately thought, hey now I can make spark plugs hehehehe.I checked out the 1914 Stutz. That's pretty sharp. How are Lindberg kits? I can't recall if I have ever built one. I have always liked the older pre-40's cars.

Oh, almost forgot, here's a shot of the front end. Just have to fix the windshield, paint the door handles and finish the bed. I have an annual camping trip with my 4 brothers this weekend so won't be able to do much. :)

(Yep chrome is a little dull but it was my first go at it. hehehehe)

Hey wheeler, are you going to hand lace the wire wheels on the jag?  I can put you on some info if you wanna give it a try.  Tony, I think I will follow wheeler a little and pick a 1/16 lindberg 1914 Stutz for my third build.  I dont think I will commit to any more than I have in case my building gets put on hold for some reason.  Keep glooin' guys!

Tony,

I have one more to add to my build list. :)

It is an Academy/Minicraft 1939 Jaguar SS100 1/16 Scale.

I started this one about 17-18 years ago. The only thing done is the engines halfs and valve cover are glued together and painted and the rear axle half's were glued together. I forgot I had it but found it a few days ago while looking for the frame from a 1969 Riviera. (Didn't find the frame yet hehehehe)

Thanks.

Eric

Thanks for the offer rommelkiste.

I'm going to try and repair it, but if I can't I will get back with you. I spent a lot of time on this truck and would hate to box it over a windshield hehehehe. I picked up some 2000 grit sandpaper today so I can sand it down smooth and then dip it in Johnson's floor wax. I'm also going to see if I can extend the botom a little to fill in the gap with some of testors glass maker.

I will say I am really happy the way the front grille and bumper look after using Alclad. I am sold so they will all get strip now hehehehe.

Thank you again.

Well,

It has proven to be a frustrating weekend. I was hoping to finish the 55 this weekend. I ran into a problem with the windshield and back glass. The windshield is to small. The is a 1/8 (or close to) gap at the bottom. I figured I could get it aligned as best as I could and then use some clear glue to fill in the gap. Everything was going good until the windshield shifted. Not realizing I had glue on my fingers I grabbed the windshield to keep it from falling out. You can guess the rest. I think I am going to set it aside for a few days and work on something else :).

Thanks Tony.

It's not quite as shiney as it should be, but I know what works now. I just have be careful on the second coat. I used Testors gloss black enamel. I'm amazed at how much more it resembles real chrome instead of the kit chrome.

Eric

I agree EW, it's a marked improvement over the kit chrome. Good work. What did you use for the gloss black undercoat ?

I decided to try my hand at re-chroming with ACLAD II. I think they came out really good for my first go at it.

LOL!  Eric, if I could find all the PE parts that are in my carpet, behind the desk, across the room and every other place they go I would have a lifetime supply!  I really think I have lost more than I have attached to my builds.  Tony, if you use a "torch" to look for parts, do you try to make a "ton" in your car?  LOL!  Just curious.  Have a smashing good day old boy!

Looking great Eric. I hate it when the P/E flicks off. I find using a torch and focussing your eyessight on where the beam hits the floor is helpful.

rommelkiste,

The towers do look better after you moved them. I also like the photo etch. I ordered the PE set for this 55 Cameo and this is the first time I've worked with it. As an example, I learned to hold on VERY tight when cleaning the edges hehehehe. I am now searching for a door handle that flew away. :) Here is the interior minus the door and window handles hehehehe.

Eric.

Well, ran into a small setback on the 240 Z.  While doing a test fit of the body and roll bar fit I found the front Strut camber plates are in the wrong location vs. the 1:1 photos of the real car.  Sooooooo, I had to fab up some strut towers on the inner fenderwells and move them in board 3/32 inch.  First pic shows the first location and the second is my modification.  Since the interior floor of the car is white, I dry brushed some steel on the floor around the pedals to look "used" and added a couple of PE pedals I had left over.  I am afraid it was all for nothing as most of this detail will be lost when assembled.  Next should be paint, I will post more when I get there.
