That last post was supposed to go in the 2014 Group! I'm really losing it!

I spaced out my commitment to this GB, in my haste to complete this kit for a contest, but here it is. This is my build of Revell's Fireball Roberts '57 Ford. It got a 2nd place at the COMMIESFest contest on Sat. Sorry no in-progress shots. It's a wonderful kit and one that enables a good NASCAR build from the box. Of course the cars were closer to stock then too. The bungee hood and trunk cords were fun to build. This car was Ford's answer to the 57 Chevy with fuel injection and both raced in NASCAR for a short time.

Here is my Jaguar XHR-9LM. I'm calling it done. It's far from my best model, but at least I can put in on the shelf amongst the collection and hope that nobody notices too much. I've now completed all 4 Hasegawa XJR jaguars, happy with that.

Cheers

You're right Rommelkiste. Hasegawa released 4 XJR Jags, and I've now decalled them all. It's the hardest one I've come across. It's taken me 22 years to get there though :) If we do a Le Mans or Racing car GB next year, I'll probably do some more of these Group C cars, but maybe with more paint and less decals.

Cheers

Fine job on  the decals Tony!  I bet those took some time and some Solvaset to look like that.  I heard some years ago about the Silk Cut Jag decals and what a pain they were, never tried em.  Looks like you nailed it.  I can barf up an STP sticker, I'll stay away from those stripes!

I've finally got back to my Jaguar XJR-9. I've masked off the white body to spray some purple panels, rather than try and make the kit purple decals conform to the complex curves of the surface.

Let's keep the ideas flowing, I'm sure the most popular subjects will show themselves. Those ones are appealing because I know absolutely nothing about them. Would be a good chance to learn. I also like the Le Mans, Racing Car and Muscle Car suggestions too, but I'm leaving it wide open for now.

I like them all hehehe. I would also like 50's style hot rods using only the type of parts that were available then. I like the gasser and American Graffiti idea also.

I kinda like Gordys' idea of an American Graffiti theme.

Lemans GB - Past and present

Altered and Gasser GB - all in the 60's style.

Coupe, Sedan and Roadster GB - Covers a lot of ground with hot rods-all eras.

Family Sedan Super Stockers -GB-  That would cover the new revell 50 Olds all the way to a Sox and Martin Cuda.  2drs, 4drs, Wagons---lots of choices, every stock class up to early Pro.

And there is always the Muscle Car.   Just some thoughts.  I'm not even done with what I'm building now but I'm ready!!!!!!

Nothing ever fits……..and when it does, its the wrong scale.

The Vette/Stang GB is my first introduction to a group build so I may be repeating suggestions/completed GBs but I thought of a few;

American Graffiti GB - pre 62 hot rods and customs (I'll sign up for that right now)

Police vehicle GB - police or service vehicles

Trucks GB - pick ups, commercial vehicles, suvs

Family Truckster GB - station wagons only

Race cars - any racing sport, authentic or fantasy racing liveries

Fast and Furious GB - modified imports

stock imports vs stock domestics

I'm having such a good time in the vette/stang GB thread, I'm sure I'll have something to submit for 2014 auto GB.

I'm looking forward to joining my next group build asap. :)

As this GB will end on December 31st, I've been thinking about the 2014 Automotive GB, which I am happy to run as a catch all for any automotive subject not captured by a more specific GB (like the Mustang and Corvette GB). It would run for the twelve months, but hopefully we can plan another specific automotive GB after the Mustang and Corvette one concludes. I'd be happy to hear your thoughts too, as the aim is to promoite automotive modelling here.

Anyways, please finish up your builds for this one if you can, by December 31st. If you can't complete it, I'd be happy to roll them forward into the next GB if you still plan on doing them next year. For the record, that is exactly what I will do with my Ferrari F186, but I plan to finish my Jaguar XJR-9 in this year's GB.

Tony,

The completed photo is missing for the Chrysler Concept car (under the VW).

Thanks.

I like the blue interior against the darker exterior, an it's a gorgeous paint job. I've updated the build roster now.

Thanks Tony.

It is a 1962 Bel Air by AMT.

I like it Eric. You've been motivating me to have a go at a few of these early Chevy's. I seem to have mucked up the build roster, I can't find this on your list. Could you advise the year and kit maker please.

Cheers

Tony,

Here is the completed Bel Air. This was my first attempt at using the metal foil. I think I have it figured out, but some spots didn't come out so good hehehehe.

I plan on starting the Chevelle this weekend.

Eric.

Tony,

1 Jan sounds great. This time I am going to add as I complete heheehhe. I was thinking you should maybe do a special one in the Spring and run it for 2 months. Maybe something like 50's era hot rods. You can only use wheels and parts from that era. Earlier year cars must be hot rods, like a 39 coupe stock doesn't qualify but 39 coupe hot rod does. Just a thought to keep us going hehehe.

I think I'll have the Bel Air done this weekend.

Later.

I like the BMF too Eric, but of late I've noticed the sheets I've bought lack tackiness. I think they're probably very old stock at the retailer.

I've updated the build roster as requested, and also removed my Ferrari F186, I'll just get the Jag done this year.

I'm thinking of kicking of the 2014 Automotive GB on 1 Jan, what do you think ?

Cheers

The bare metal foil I ordered came today. I have never used it before so I tried it out on the back of the Bel Air. I think I have it figured out now so I'll fix the roughed up areas and then do the rest of the car. This stuff is way better than trying to paint the trim.

Eric.

Hi all,

I'm almost done with the Bel Air. I'm waiting on some foil so I can do the trim. It's supposed to be here this week. I did get the interior done. I had a few small mishaps but overall I like it. I plan on doing the 69 Chevelle next.

Tony, I think the Chevelle will be the last one I have time for before the end of December, so if you like you can remove the others except the 69 Chevelle and I'll save them for the next round. Thanks.

L8TR,

Eric.

Isn't 1:32 a slot car racing scale? If so maybe some rubber tires at that scale would work?  I'll check a local hobby store and see.

I've got the Mini Clubman S kit, just went looking for it in the stash, but it failed to surface. I'll have another look when I have a bit more time.

Dave1974

could you use the tyres from another model of the same scale of a different producer such as Revell, Tamiya, or Airfix ?

That's a good idea.  Maybe some of the other Airfix Mini kits have tires that woul dhave treads and be the right scale for the kit.

Yes it is the Airfix Mini Cooper S kit but the one with 1 car not 2 and this is my first auto too.  I didn't notice the tires, but you are correct, no treads. :(  I guess this isn't all that bad considering there is a seam running down the middle; however,  is there somewhere I can get replacement tires?

Yep, it's the same one.  Your first too?!  You'll love it!  Some advice.....step 34 (attaching the body tot he chassis), there was a slight fit issue.  It seemed to rub up against the backseat.  It would not "pop" all the way down where it needed to be.  Just a few minutes of sanding (and repainting!) did the trick.  I went back to make sure I had done step10,11, and 21 correctly and didn't think I had, but you never know! Embarrassed

So just something to look out for.  I did use the other kit in the box and without the backseat and stuff, it popped right on.  So, I am not ruling out operator error for sure, just a little something to look out for.

The seam down the middle was odd too.  I sanded it off.  Never seen any tires with one tread running down the middle.  Not sure about any AM/replacement tires!  Honestly, I'm old school and it didn't cross my mind.  But if you find out about any, I think I could pop off the old tires and replace them.  It's a little more detail I guess.  Depends on how much they were too.  Wink

Have fun with it and do post pics!
