Not a problem. Joking aside. There is an element of truth there. Well, there is in my book anyway.

Just to show you I've actually been doing something for this other than posting here and havin fun . . . I give you, THE BLACK TANK OF THE POTOMAC!  Tamiya NATO Black, actually.  This is the primer and will be my first attempt at "panel shading."  A coat of OD then lighter OD to follow.  We'll see what happens.  Looks a lot darker "in person." *shrug*

Did a lot of tying down of stowage with foil and string today, drilled holes in MG bores (all this as as per Stik).  But now I've got a slight "airbrush high" and am going to lie down for a while. 

Grrr.  Looking at the picture I can see I need to fill that seem in the armor plate on the hull.

Now it's OD . . .

Base was Tamiya NATO Black (I would have used flat black but I was running low), this coat is straight Tamiya OD, and next will be Tamiya OD lightened with Tamiya Dark Yellow.

At least that's my plan.  If I end up changing it, I'll let you know.  Haven't tried mixing them yet, but I have it on good authority that it should make a good combo for the light OD coat . . .

Agreed with the Flying Turtle! That paint job is looking real good so far BB.

The P-47 was no turtle, I believe it was the fastest fighter operated by the USAAF - a smidgen faster than the P-51.

Bitbite loving the sherman. I try to do that colour variation and can't get it right. Two thumbs up for you. You pulled it off magnificently.

Clemens, I was indeed referring to Gamera with my flying turtle comment. As a youngster I was raised on a steady diet of Toho Studios Japanese monster movies on the local TV stations, so sometimes I  think that everybody else knows them too.

shivinigh - Like I said, it was my first try at doing this so I probably just got lucky . . . part of me just wants to leave it as it is and not risk being able to pull it off again. LOL  Anyway, I'll give it a try later today.  

That is looking great BB. That looks a good combo for lighting the OD. As long as its not white, you should be fine. I learnt that one the hard way.

Thanks, Bish.  There's a lot of shading variations not showing up in my pictures.  Also, the decal set that comes with the kit is "Summer France 1944 unit unknown" is it ok if I use them for this GB? Pretty much just the stars and numbers on the rear flanks, no divisional marking or anything else.  Time frame could right but not very specific.  Please advise.

Couldn't wait for an answer so I just used the decals I had.   Here's the Sherman after decals on and some dry brushing.

Looking pretty good there BB- a couple suggestions: 1) those stars are very bright- tone them down with some weathering/dusting a bit 2) the soft stowage items (packs, tarps, etc.) need a little contrast to make them stand out more- at that point in the war most of that stuff was a khaki olive color and Tamiya Khaki is a good choice for that color...

Stik - Agreed on all counts.  I haven't started painting any of the stowage or done any weathering yet.  Starting that today. However, the mother and sister-in-laws are coming to visit so it'll be tough.  If I start now I'll be able to get three hours in before they get here.

That's looking great BB, and the markings are just fine. I think we will soon have our first completed build.
