Only things I know bout the Corsair:

• It looks awesome
• It uses the same engine as the Hellcat and Thunderbolt
• It looks awesome!
• It is carrier-based
• It looks awesome!!
• It is on the first GB badge
• Have i mentioned it looks awesome already?

Don't worry Bish I accidently erased all the video evidence. 

I muffed up. My entry is the Vought F7U-3M Cutlass. Not the skyray, still 1/72 Fujimi kit

If I can get a time worked out I will try and do a GB for transport aircraft. I would like to work it out with another GB so folks can do crossovers. 

Sorry shiv, theres been that much going on lately, i am loseing track a bit. I forgot it was you who brought up the transport. If you time that right, i think you will get a lot of interest.

Does anyone of you know where I can get the Cyberhobby Hellcat in 1/48 scale? I want one with folded wings and this kit is really nice, as far as i heard....

If you do one for transport planes, I'll host another one with radial engines beeing the theme. As most transport planes have radials (unless they have jet engines) they should fit together nicely.

Bish, I think you are here by dubbed, the godfather of GB's!  To the Dom! 

As for doing a GB......sure.....1/32 OR LARGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Anything!  As long as I don't need the magnifiers to do detail work!

I can't wait to start my Wildcat. I just had a look in the box and boy, what a nice kit that is. Not that many parts and still awesome details. I thought that its just their expensive kits that are so good. That was  the reason i picked the Corsair and a P-51B Mustang up at Hannants today! I love Tamiya!

And Nope, 1/48, just like the Wildcat.

The beauty of those Tamiya kits is they're pretty easy to build.  You'll love the Corsair and Mustang.  I keep several in the stash, just for those theraputic builds after completing something hair-raising.

One quick note.  I think the markings that come with that particular Tamiya boxing are all land-based Corsairs......I think.  I know that VF-17 was based in the Solomons and I can't remember what the other markings in the kit were for.  Though to be fair  he Corsair was a US Navy plane that did take off from carriers.  If I remember my history correctly (And I do drink a lot) It took the Navy a while to warm up to the Corsairs on their ships.  Something about the long nose making it difficult for pilots to see the deck on approach.  They had to come up with a funky approach where they turned onto the deck at the last second.

I will have a look at some aftermarket decals, Stu. This thing HAS to be a carrier based machine! I have to order another Quickboost engine for it as well, so i can get me some decals along with it. You can help me if you want, i would prefer a 3-tone color scheme like on hte box art. (sadly there aren't that many decal sheets for the birdcage corsair)

I just found the instructions of this kit on the interwebnet. The machine depicted on the box-art was stationed aboard the USS Bunker Hill! So everything is fine with that nice 3-tone scheme!

Great!  Yup a quick search of VF-17 shows it started on Bunker Hill before moving to the Solomon's.  quick research always trumps foggy recollections.  Plus VF-17 carried the Jolly Rogers markings.  A personal favorite of mine.

Did you guys know, that  the P-47 Thunderbolt was able to start from a carrier?

And don't worry guys, I wont take stuff like this into the GB. The Thunderbolt is no carrier-based design at all. I just wanted to show you some of the strangest stuff I've seen about the Jug.

World War II aircraft past a certain year were almost all capable of being delivered by catapult shot off of the CVEs

they did it because it saved so much time over craning the birds over the side at a port,,,,,,,,and because it was possible to arm them up, arrive off shore at some island, and launch and strike,,,,,,,,then land at their new home

Haha, if you opened this up to "ringers", there are Piper Cubs on LST's (two methods), C-130 test on Forrestal, UH-1 on converted LCM, SH-2 on a Catamaran, TH-57 on converted LCU,,,,etc, even including seaplanes catapulted off of converted Destroyers and recovered by crane for the next launch

but, if a person wants odd, there are plenty of "odd ones" that were designed for  Carriers without going to a Sparrowhawk on a Dirigible (Akron and Macon were also aircraft carriers)

to see the odd stuff, and some normal ships,,,,,,,go to the World Aircraft Carrier List on HazeGray and Underway site (haze is not loading right now, or I would just link it)

I'd figure if a Mitchell can roll off a heaving carrier deck into the air then a Jug would be able to do it with little trouble.

Rex, if i got that right, you would like me to open this build for some unconventional stuff?

I don't know.. I want it to be for planes that can land on the carrier again after their job is done.

"normal" US carrier designed aircraft already include enough "weirdo" things for us to build, along with a lot of "normal" aircraft

I am perfectly happy with the range from biplanes to props to turboprops and jets

My Dad and I were talking the other day about the raid to get OBL.  As I understand it he was burried at sea off the deck of a carrier.  We wondered out loud if the Navy boys made use of their catapults for that occasion.  It was cause for a few laughs thinking of a casket being hurled off the deck.

Why not? That catapults seem to be useful for many kinds of stuff!

I am thinking that I should go ahead and list three biplanes,,,,,,each of a different media

the F6C on CV-1 Langley is a Pro Resin kit, with a Starfighter P-6E photoetched rigging set

the F3F is a RarePlanes Vacuform, with stretched sprue rigging (maybe on the Wasp)

a Heller SBC-3 or 4 with Starfighter rigging and resin engine (on Enterprise)

that would be a Resin plane, a Vac, and an old Plastic,,,,,,and let me use up some of this Starfighter decal collection I have,,,,,,,,and show a good contrast of the different methods of assembly for each medium (there was an old company that produced White Metal biplanes,,,,but, I don't have one)

then, after he gets it all ready,,,,,,,a Starfighter BF2C re-release of the Monogram kit, with resin, PE, and decals,,,,,,,that actually can be entered as OOB Biplane at a show

I have been on a stint building jets, mostly Skyhawks, time to pay attention to some of the other things on the shelves

ps: catapult photos exist of certain automobiles being launched, and at least one good shot in a Squadron booklet of a TBM all shot full of holes and stripped down, waiting for the launch,,,,that would make a heck of a dio, lol

I was thinking of building Revell's A-1E Skyraider kit bashed into a AD-5W

I have Falcons Vacu-form belly radome and canopy half along with some Airwaves wing fold PE and Cobra Co resin cockpit update set .

I'm unsure of the fate of this particular Skyraider ?
