I'm just curious: Does an M2 Browning count as an AA weapon as well? I'm talking about the Brownings mounted on top of many allied tanks...

If you added three more and mount them on a half-track, you'd have a nice duck hunter. Whistling

I was actually thinking about one of those. Those Dragon halftracks are bloody expensive though... Wait a moment. My LHS has everything on sale right now... I think Ima get me one of those. THe Dragon kit is really nice. I tried to build one some time ago, but screwed up completely. I think it's time to make it right...

I've been waiting for this one. I would like to offer a 1\35 Trumpeter SA-2 on a truck with Egyptian markings. Should help ruffle some feathers.

Hey Shiv,  got you on the list.  Very cool!  Build!  Welcome aboard!

I built the Dragon Kugelblitz a couple of years ago, for the Pz IV Gb. A nice kit. I still have to do a Diorama for it.

Flak Panzers? I was toying with the idea of building a Kugelblitz for some time. Maybe I'll throw one in if time allows...

Little German fact: The plural of "Panzer" is actually "Panzer" as well... Panzer is the German word for armor, but it is also used for "tank", because a tank is basically an armored box of some shape with a gun and tracks...

AI have built the 35th version as part of the 20mm Mobelwagen kit, but that's a really old one. I think the figures would add a nice touch.

I've built one before, but I want to do a better one so I got another, I think just a gun and a few pieces are off, nothing glued together, its a fairly small kit. I could try to put it in a dio. I've never done figures before so I can try to do these.

Been giving that one some thought Clemens. I know they were mounted for AA use, but they weren't designed as an AA weapon, and I think in this instance, its pushing it a bit to far. So I will say no to a cupola mounted MG.

If I build a FIM-92 Stinger, add it to a vehicle, would that count for this build?

If I built the M-1097, would that get me the golden duck?

Your on the list!  Great build subject.  Look forward to seeing it.

Greg, I take it your on about a 1/35th Stinger. Yes, that would be fine. I think to keep within the spirit of things, it it would be nice to build that as part of a vehicles equipment. And I had to look up the M 1097. neat vehicle. Build 4 of em, and you have it.

ww2, ye, that's fine. Just put it on hold until Sept.

Welcome aboard guys.

JBELL30, wow!  What a great line-up!  You listed and ready!  Only 2 more and you can get the Golden Duck!

I must be insane for joining this one as well, but apparently I am, so count me in!

What am I building?

My project for this will be a 1/35th diorama. I never tried to do this, so it's going to be interesting.

It depicts an SdKfz.251 towing a Flak 36. The 251 is used for this task, because there was no other vehicle available to tow the gun. The gun will be attached to the 251's towing hook by a chain or towing cable, because the 251 wasn't capable to tow such a big gun, so I suppose that the 88 can't be attached by using the hook.

Here are the kits I'm going to use for this:

I'm going to build this kit without the "bridge" (is it even one?), but with the AT gun.

Gun shield oro no gun shield? That's the question here...

Cheers, Clemens

Glad to have you on Clemens!  Got you listed.  Can't wait to see the dio!

I planned on building both vehicles for this GB, if you don't mind. I have something else planned for the Halftrack GB and 2 months is way too little time for a halftrack and a dio base...

Welcome aboard guys. eagle will add you shortly. A nice selection there jbell. Even though Soviet armour isn't my thing, I have been tempted to get the ZSU 23-4 for a while, such a nice looking weapon system.

Clemens, indeed that is an assault bridge on the side of that vehicle. The /7 was an engineer assault vehicle. Are you building the halftrack as part of this GB or leaving that part for the halftrack.

Now that is cool!  I like the stories behind why someone does a build and this is cool.  You don't have any pics of this from your youth do you?

Eagle90

Alas, no. But if you Google "Nike Hercules Chicago," you can see quite a lot of it. The launch site on Montrose Beach (where the Yacht Club is now) is particularly surreal.

Oddly, my memories of the Nike stuff are anything but sinister. It was just part of the everyday scene. And of course as kids we thought the missiles looked way-cool.

Thanks Bish and Eagle!

The Nike actually has a sort of nostalgic connection for me. I grew up in Chicago in the 60's, and the Chicago area was literally ringed by Nike launch and command sites, including one (C-80) quite close to our area. It wasn't uncommon to see the Nikes, since, apparently, part of the purported deterrent value was to make it clear to the Soviets that they were there and ready. They were surprisingly high-visibilty.

As for the Airfix Bloodhound---I just always thought it was cool.

Now that is cool!  I like the stories behind why someone does a build and this is cool.  You don't have any pics of this from your youth do you?
