OOPS! wrong GB!

Another member of the club.

Well got it done - Sd.Kfz.232 - pigment with water & enamel base wash for dust effects - black pen wash, pencils used to show some bare metal on portions around fenders - 6 month project. Took several photos outside with natural light, then took it back inside with lighting. Photos enclosed.

Now I can get started on the latest Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf.D DAK Dragon Smart Kit (6779). Armor86

That's very, very impressive, A86! The filters and washes, the dust, have tied it all together and the paint chipping comes across as very realistic indeed! Bravo!

You certainly have the weathering techniques down pat.  Are the brighter photos taken outside?  I prefer those, but the orange hued ones are interesting too, sort of like a setting sun backdrop.

Yea those were taken outside using mine outdoor photo studio rig, the indoor shots using the work bench lighting gives more yellowish-orange tone color.  Starting the panzer iv - studying references and may do some kit bashing from the tristar pz iv roadwheel set ... which has individual roadwheels separate from rubber tires with different hub caps among other suspension components to mix and match. Dan: Are you building that old Dragon super kit?

I have several Dragon Super Kits (posted photos at the beginning of GB) - currently have in the stash the Pz IV Ausf. D (3 in 1) - Ausf. E (3 in 1) - Vorpanzer E (3 in 1) each kit has over 1000 parts. umh ???

Have an older Tristar kit IV D and Road wheel set.

I'm signed up to build a Dragon DAK version 6779 - Pz IV Ausf. D Smart Kit  release last May 2013 - noted several group builders have sign on to build IVs 'D' Tamiya or Dragon kits. Armor86

I also have the two Dragon "E" kits (DAK and Vorpanzer), but not the "D". I still have to decide between the Tristar and Dragon kit. Tristar's version seems a bit more accurate, but I just had a better bilding experience with Dragon kits compared to Tristar.

What do ou think is the best of the 3 "D"s? Tristar, Dragon Super Kit or Dragon Smart kit?

Hey SchattenSpartan - Reviews have compared the 'D' Tristar and Dragon super kits and what I recall the Tristar kit had the right gun length and better turret however the tristar hull can be hard to fit right.  Enclosed link on the new Dragon 'D' 6779 - http://www.missing-lynx.com/reviews/german/dml6779reviewcs_1.html 

Dragon 6779 - has the DS track, the hull is correct for early D, engine deck and tropical stuff is correct. Have an after market interior which test fits the low hull / deck.  

I have the earlier Tristar 'D' (015) which is harder to build (lower hull) and does not have the turret storage bin, likely build it for either France or Poland. 

Have several after market PE for both the Dragon D and Tristar D - extra bolt on armor plates etc. The Dragon IV Ausf. E Vorpanzer has two lower hulls with corrected front drive. So when I get around to building it  I will likely use it with the earlier kit. 

I've thinking the newer Dragon Smart kit will build closer to the DAK vehicle ... I've build two / three of the Dragon smart kits (Pz III Ausf. J initial and late and Pz I and they didn't need as much work to build up compared to the older DML kits from 1990s (Pz III Ausf. G - Pz IV Ausf. F1)   Armor86

I plan on building the E in DAK markings for this GB with CMK interior (it's for Tamiya's P.IV, but it should fit the Dragon kit as well) I heard about some things being wrong with the DAK kit that are corrected in tha Vorpanzer one, but I don't plan on fixing them. Most of them are minor inaccuracies that almost noone is going to notice except for those Panzer gurus that know the exact placement of every bolt on the real thing...

A86, your 8 rad came out gorgeous It does indeed look like it has been trundleing around the North African desert on campaign. Excellent work on the finish!

Old and new progress here on my Carro Commando...
before the circus came to town for my home, I built up a couple of the Miniart crew figures to go with this build. I really do like the Miniart tank crew figure sets. Definitely not more of the same. 1) they cover all those subjectstjhat Dragon ignores in favor of umpteen German sets, 2) the quality of the figures is really quite nice, with some really sharp detail work.

and I got a topcoat of the Giallo Mimetico over the Tamiya Yellow Green that I used as a primer over my work on the top deck

and now Giovanni and Giuseppe await their next progress...

Wow Utoshita, very cool to see! I've got one of those in my stash somewhere, didn't think it looks too bad considering the age. My biggest issue is of course it's actually 1/32nd not 1/35th.

Love Miniart figures too, great poses without having to modify them and definitely different from the usual run of the same old same old stuff. Giovanni and Giuseppe look grumpy though- I think they want to be painted!  

Well they need to wait on Luigi to join them first. He is under construction on my workbench at the moment.

Thanks for the comments on the RAD 8 Armor Car - Now I'm ready to get going with my GB project that I had signed up for!  

It's another Panzer IV 'D' - however it's a more recent Dragon release from last summer (6779) Smart Kit and has very few Photo Etch parts and comes with DS Track.

I've been reviewing the hull pan, lower hull suspension parts and it looks well done and detailed. Have some after market enhancements - full interior and some other little details.  Armor86
