Right on !!!

I recall the French '40 Campaign you ran a few years ago also included some aircraft, will the same hold here or will it be strictly land vehicles?  What about artillery pieces?

Oh Jack, always the devil advocate! Due to my extreme time schedule, I might just opt for armor, softskins and arty. Too me, they signified desert warfare.

Count me in Tigerman, your last GB was sensational.  Put me down for a Supermodel 1/48 Autoblinda AB41. It's unstarted.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Not missing this one. I have been making sure I had a slot for this. I will be doing a Tamiya Pz III, but not sure if it will be the Ausf L or N yet.

35th of course.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Would the old monogram "Rommel's Rod" count?

I loved your Steel Cats GB and I'm sure this one will be as awesome as the last one (and I didn't forget about my promise regarding my participation)!

I don't know what I'm going to build yet, but I know that I'll join Rommel's forces here.

Here's what I have in my stash at the moment (everything is 1/35):

  • AFV Club Sd.Kfz.231 early (I'm not sure if it was used in Africa though)
  • Dragon Pz.II Ausf.C
  • Dragon Pz.IV Ausf.E (it even includes some cacti Big Smile)
  • Dragon Tiger I initial (not sure on that one either)
  • Tamiya Tiger I (I think it's the "Africa" boxing)
  • Zvezda Tiger I

I'll probably build the Pz.IV and one of the Tigers, but I'm not sure, so just put me on the list with "something German"

Cheers, Clemens

Thanks for the enthusiasm guys. This two month window will give us all plenty of time for Christmas gifts and the such for the GB.

I've always found the Desert Campaign an intriguing one.

Bill, sure, why not include Rommel's Rod. Always wanted one back in the day.

Nice Cliff. I love Crusaders. I wish I had one of the newer Valentines. Sigh.

Here's a little eye-candy from my only completed build last year. Grrr.

Me too! I always loved the "World At War" and "Victory At Sea" episodes that covered this campaign. Great stuff for a young boy to watch on TV.

Once upon a time, during awards ceremonies, our Battalion commanders would read us heroic exploits done by the units in wars past as a means to 'inspire' us with the deeds of the past. One was the assault landing of the 6th Armored Infantry in North Africa during Operation Torch- long story short, it did not go well, the 6th got the hell shot out of themselves, and it was not the best example... We got to meet some of those guys another time at a "Regimental Day" where they were guests of honor. I much preferred the deeds of the 10th Infantry in France. Good times and days.

Oh a Crusader! I love the look of that tank. I still have a Mk.I in my stash...Hmm

Carlos, that's pretty cool and I also agree with your take on World at War (one of my faves).

I want a Crusader II with the sand-shields.

Eric: If the only thing I turned out last year looked that good I'd be happy!!!

SP: Wow, sounds like a heck of a pep rally! Love the Crusader too, very sleek looking tank even with all the steampunk bolts over her. The Italeri kit is kinda old but I got the kit on sale and if I'm not happy with how she comes out it's at least good practice.

And yeah I thought about bringing up 'Rommel's Rod' but my reissue is about half finished. I tried adding rib cages to undead Rommel and his driver and they didn't come out well so I shelved the whole darn thing.

Eric- I was kidding! I would gladly take you up on this except that I built a 'Rod in the last year,

I do have a nice 1/24 Pkw.K1Kubelwagen Type 82 "DAK" however, so sign me up!

It even has a figure doing something to it....

probably adjusting the points.

Cliff, I built that kit and it's pretty good. Even the tracks get hidden by the sand-shields. I would look for and AM barrel and maybe some PE. Otherwise, I loved the build-up on the kit.

Eric: Cool, thanks for the head's up! I'm going to try the crazy Caulter (sp?) scheme on her so I don't think I need any more complications like PE! I might just pick up a turned metal barrel for her though.

Cliff, my hat's off to you on the camo scheme. I believe it's Caunter, but now I'm not sure. LOL I have a Matilda, but wouldn't attempt that myself. I do like the crazy Malta scheme.

Yes it is the Caunter scheme. Certainly one of the more appealing camo schemes ever applied to AFVs.

Thanks! Caunter it is! I got the kit for ten bucks so I'm a little more willing to experiment on her than a forty dollar kit.

Gamera, they were that. If they were Brigade level, the Brigade commander would tell us one of his war stories from Vietnam, one of which sure sounded like the inspiration for the MOH fight scene in "Forest Gump", or he would tell us about Buna and recite MacArthur's order to General Eichelberger- "Bob take Buna... put Sergeants in charge of Companies and Corporals in charge of Platoons... I want you to take Buna or don't come back alive..," oh Col. Lloyd was good as an inspiring leader...

Oh that Crusader kit is very nice. I know many want a new tooled kit of this tank, and it has some minor flaws and age issues, but it still looks damned good to this day. I have built the Mk. III and Mk.II (with some sandshields that I pirated off an old Mk.III).

Hey Tigerman,

I'm fairly new to the world of armor, but this is too cool to miss!  Not sure what I have in my stash for this, but hey, the holidays are almost upon us!  Whistling  So, if I could, I'd love to get in on this GB!  Will let you know what kit as soon as I find one.  Thanks,
