The 2014 Automotive Group Build

i will be looking for a shiney aluminum for my firetrucks as they don't have chrome plated parts. i will be interested in seeing the 2 paints side by side tto help me decide what to use though my proposed 1st build here soes not have chrome parts anyway.

There are some pretty impressive builds here.  I was wondering if I could submit a build I just started on a last week.

I'm building the Tamiya 1/20 Red Bull RB6 F1 car.  It's my first shiny build in years, mostly been working on military aircraft and vehicles, but Olive Grab gets so, well drab......

In any case, so easy on my as I am learning how to get that brilliant shine and shimmer you all have mastered.

Hey John, good to see you here... in the lane of glitzy paintwork and smooth riding!  Eric, I'll shortly join with another 20th F1 - just not sure what the victim...ehhhrrr... subject will be!  

The learning-curve Lotus is closing in on semi-completion. (How's that for absolute commitment!) Wheel decals done. Wheels dry-fitted and will most likely be added tonight or tomorrow. Then just rear wing and decals. Before then I'll have to pick another larger-scale subject, hate starting two models at once... one always gets left behind.

Thanks again Rommelkiste for the pics of the 1/20th. I may attempt one of those. Seeing it reminds me of one of the first models I ever built. I got it for Christmas when I was about 7 or 8. It was a formula car but don't remember who made it, only that it was white and smeared with glue when I was done hehehe.

Didn't get much done on the Cuda, just the chrome around the windows and door handles. I do think I may have it finished over the weekend, I need to get at least one done hehehe.

I hadn't planned to start my build this weekend, but doing research on the Cobra had me chomping at the bit to get started. Did I mention my love for Cobras?   So far just primer on the body and the suspension is completed. Next up is the engine, which looks like it'll be fun. So far the kit is falling together and I'm really impressed by the fit and detail for a relatively inexpensive kit (that I got for 40% off, no less!).

Steve, I picked up a Cobra kit at hobby lobby and also got 40% off. Is this the same kit? Hope so as it looks like it has good detail. I can't remember who made mine. I fhave a few still to finish before I start it so I'm looking forward to see how your turns out.

I did finish the 71 "Cuda today. After looking at the photo I do see I forgot to paint the side markers so I'll have to take care of them tomorrow hehehe.

Steve the Cobra is looking good! Like you said, whats not to love about a Cobra.

I have been working on the monster truck the last couple of weekends. I have a lot of the parts painted and ready to go together. A lot of the parts for this kit have to be painted before they get assembled. I do have the engine just about done, and no I did not put the headers on up side down

I did this one to get out of the cold weather slump hehehehe. It is a fun kit and I would build it again. Painting it in cold weather was a challenge but overall it came out ok. It doesn't have a lot of parts but does have decent detail.

I like the engine. I haven't done any monster trucks yet but I have one in my stash. Gotta Hobby Lobby and their coupon hehehe.

EW, thats a pretty good looking Cuda.  I like your color choice, that really makes it.  Glad you built that cause I have one in the stash and have never built that one.  

Dale, I have not seen a Monster Truck kit built and I am looking forward to this one.  You have a nice start on the engine and if the rest goes together that well, it will look killer.  I have one in the stash still in wrap but I am not sure which one it is.  It may be a BigFoot version.   As soon as I get the plowing done and the Hoyt-Clagwell tractor don't break again, maybe I can get some glooin' done.  You guys are getting way ahead of me!

Raven, I have built that kit in a couple of versions, the detail is nice and I think you will like it.  I see you have the street version with 2 4bbl carbs?  I have not done that version yet.  Once you do this one, you will have to do some of the others, thats what the first one did to me!

Okay, so I got what I did not want - going to be starting two models together. Can't remember when last that happened. One always gets preference... Decided to swing thing around this time. Simpler 43rd (haha, yeah right, as if ANYTHING is "simple" in 43rd) and a more complex 20th F1.

Now... for the 43rd I was certain I was aiming for Button Championship-winning Brawn. Then Nico came and spoilt the party... adding the Merc MGP W01 to contention. (NO - this was always going to be a Nico model, I was never a fan of Schumi returning.) So 43rd: Merc or Brawn?

For 20th, two keeps contrasting - really cannot make up my mind. I am split between butchering a Lotus 25 with some added detail (Thunder Valley detail set) or ... how's this for irony... a tribute to Schumi - a MFH F2003... I haven't built a (large scale) Multimedia in aaages.

Any thought on the decision process will be appreciated.

Took some snaps of the completed cars today. Will see how it came out later and post. Is there no way of uploading photo's here directly from PC?! Such a drag to have to upload it to somewhere forst, just to have it visible here...

I also got a little work done on the Chevelle.

Drilled and welded in alignment pins for the exhaust manifolds. I do this on all of them now as it is a pain trying to keep them on straight while glueing.

Got some of the dry brushing on the undercarriage done.

Painted the rims silver. Just need to paint the black inserts now.

And I did some more sanding on the body. Hopefully I will have it ready to repaint in the next few days.

started on the 1/24 UNIMOG THW. it is EXACTLY like the 1/35th i built except for the lights. i mean the engine doesn't have any more detail parts than the 1/35. lots of sinkwells to fix and i already know the cargo bed and windshirld need work. i don't think i realized how big 1/24 is and this is the smaller of the emergency vehicles in the stash.

Okay, so here's the pics. Don't be too harsh, esp on the Lotus, my first attempt at a more detailed Tameo. Huuuuge learning curve! Many moments of frustration... but hey, she's done!

Didnt realise just how small the tameo is. Its a great looking little car!

Well I got some work done on the monster truck this past weekend. One thing I don't like about this build is how many of the parts have to be painted before they are attached. When you look at the pictures you will better be able to see what I mean. The frame pieces had to be painted before gluing as so many other pieces had to go inside of it. Also you are supposed to glue the rear window into the cab before installing it into the frame, but I could not get the part in there with the window in it as it would not clear the frame rails. Of coarse now I don't know how I'll get the window in. Well here are some pics

The glue joints on the frame have to be touched up with some gloss black. Also you can see in the back ground the Pugs were trying to help my wife go through some papers for our taxes Oh well they do stay away from the important stuff, like my model stuff, and guitars.

I don't envy you and that window Dale hehehe. How would it even fit? Does it have cut outs for the tubes? It'll be interesting to see how it comes out. One idea is maybe splitting the window into 3 pieces and make it into a sliding window and use some flat styrene to hide the joints?? :)

Finished sanding the Chevelle and repainted it. I have one small run on the drivers side rear. Also have a few spots that I need another coat on where I sanded it down to the primer. Should have the first coat of clear on by Friday.

Also got all the semi-gloss stuff painted.

Dale, sounds like you've gotten yourself into a classic catch-22 there. Good luck! I don't even have clever suggestions...

Eric, I have a feeling that is going to turn out one nice Chevelle - love the colour!

Nothing happened on my side, except that I made up my mind about what to do in 20th. It will be Jim Clarke's Lotus 25 - with the Thunder Valley detail set. A seriously successful car and driver combination!

Some of the detail set might be new territory for me, have in past just had swap-out parts and additions for detail. Looks like I'll have to do some surgery here if I just glance through the instructions. Who cares about a comfort zone anyways?! ;) Will make some notes on the sheets before commencing, just to combine the two sets of instructions - or at least know when to look at the detail set instructions. Out of action till after the weekend and will most likely only start looking into this more seriously next week.

Also still have to pick a next 43rd victim... At this stage still between the Brawn and the Merc.

Those TVF1 detail sets are supposed to be fabulous, if a little hard to come by. I've built tohe Lotus 25, but only to box standard, although it's a nice build. I've recently considered doing the Honda to  go with it.

The Lotus 91 is a classic. I love your 43rd build, and those little detail parts must have been an enormous challenge.

As for the Audi, nice work What kit is the R8 ?

All of your subjects are exactly in my interest range.
