I'd like to change my tune.  I have a 1/48 Academy P-38J that I'd like to get at.  Not entirely sure what exact one I'll do yet, but it will be a Pacific Theatre birdie.

Please change me from the Spit to the Lightning.

happy new year over there.

and i won't be starting anything at 1700 loc al time but it was a thought. i may go a little goofy on this one. even though the G-4 staff cars were built in '39 i suspect they were still around in '44. saw it in a movie so it must be true. may do that or the fire truck or the just ordered minart european tram. why not? i'm the only guy doing JGSDF stuff in the japanese GBs so....

No problem wayne, plenty of time to decide what you want to do, I am not sure yet. At the moment, its between a 251/9 and a Pz IV J. Going to try and do more armour this year.

warwheels for me (mostly trucks) plus some modern german fire apparatus. will still get wierd with the big excavator and the D9R bulldozer and maybe a big choo choo. if i need something light will do PLA or JGSDF stuff.

Allen, William. I have made a note of your entries. I know SS hasn't been on for a couple of days, I will make sure he is aware of them when he comes back on. So even if its not on the front page, it is noted and you can crack on when ever your ready.

So here's my first "progress" report...in that the model has progressed from my closet to my work bench. 

There will be a few firsts for me. First model of the year, first time using resin, first natural metal finish etc, so I'm a bit intimidated at the moment.  Oh well, I have 12 months to get it right.

Speaking of first time with resin - I bought this, and the cover picture looks quite nice...

I'm not sure if all resin set's instructions are this vague, but this seems a little lacking to me. I'm trying to figure out exactly how the clear plastic sheet incorporates into the Instrument Panel, as the dials don't seem to align with the holes in the resin bit.  

Anyway, we'll see how this goes.  I can always revert to the kit's cockpit if need be.

I haven't figured out which bird I'll do yet.  I'd originally intended for it to be "Madu V / Wanda" from 475th FG, however that is 1945.  Perhaps Virginia Marie or St Louis Blues; either of those are quite sharp I think.

Edit: I just ordered the Superscale sheet for St Louis Blues.

Well, its still progress Allen, and your first out of the block with pics.

Some resin sets can be a bit vague. Hardly any have a colour call out. What brand is that, it doesn't look familiar.

Legend Productions is the company.

I haven't managed to find any real info on them or reviews, so it may not have been the best choice for my first attempt at resin! 

Right, I have heard of them, but never used their stuff. I never knew they did aircraft AM, thought it was just armour. I have looked around but can't find any reviews on that kit, their armour stuff seems to be ok.

I had some connection issues lately so I couldn't access the forum at all, but everything is sorted out now.

Good to see you back, I thought you might have gone away for a few days.

There's a couple of additions needed on the roster. Chanter has changed his build from the Spitfire to the Academy P-38.

And Axemanwb has joined with a Tamiya 1/35th Pz IV Ausf J.

and wayne STILL doesn't know what he is building yet. i just keep changing my mind. today the peerless max 15-cwt truck (canadian italy) moved to the front behind the GRILLE SPAA.

LOL, you and me both. I was sorting out the stash in the shed today, it was this kit, that kit, not this one. Armour, aircraft. Still no idea.

Allen, You'll like that P 38. It has some extra parts that can be interchanged because of the different versions and it went together without too much puttying. I think the P 38's are all like that. Anyway, Mine is almost done. you can see pics of it in the "Longest Day" Group Build.

I'm currently trying to find info on the particular aircraft I've chosen (and ordered the decals for...figures) but there doesn't seem to be much out there.  In particular, I'm trying to find what colour the anti glare panels were.  Apparently, the decal sheet indicates Black on one drawing, and Olive Drab on another drawing. 

There is a P-38 book that I"ve been trying unsuccessfully to get my hands on for a while now; it seems to be unavailable everywhere, but this particular plane (St Louis Blues) is in there.  "P-38 Lightning at War" is the title.

I won some Dragon Magic Tracks of ebay for the PZ IV J.

I broke a rule I have about spending more on after market stuff than the kit, but I really want this one to come out great. The vinyl tracks that came with the kit just aren't very good  I could have covered them up with mud - just don't want to.

I have a few minor things to wrap up on a couple of other builds and then I'll get started on this one.

Allen... I had a book like that, always out of stock, or not available, I just kept watching Amazon and 1 day there it was, used but much cheaper then a new one, and I couldnt tell it had been previously owned. Good luck!

William, i think that rule went out of the window for me a long time ago. It's not unkown for me to treble to cost of a kit with AM, and even more on the odd occasions. I have replaced the tracks from every Tamiya kit i have with Fruils for starters.

Hi Ho Bish and Clemens, Count me in on this one. I was going to build another FW 190 for the Butcher Bird GB and then join the Stuka GB. But, Thanks to Master Doug turning my attention to this GB I have a golden oppurtunity to build one of my F4U Corsairs. I have been dying to build my favorite airplane for years and the moment has arrived. Not to mention that the Pacific theatre is my absolute favorite subject. So, put me down for the Tamiya 1/48 F4U-1A Corsair with oodles of goodies. I will be doing a 1944 aircraft from VF-17, The Jolly Rogers. Not sure whose aircraft I'll be doing yet but I'm leaning towards Lt. Ira Kepford's White 29 or Ens. Frederick J Strieg's White 3. I've got to finish up My FW 190 for the Butcher Bird GB first but, I will get some pre-game pics up right directly. Thank You Bish and Clemens for stepping in and hosting this GB. I definitely look forward to building with some good friends and making some new ones here.

Joe: It's great to have you in here as well! More pacific stuff is always a good thing!  I have Tamiya's Birdcage Corsairs (1/48 and the big one) in the stash, so your build will be interesting to watch!

Hey Joe! Glad you opted to build here too! Like you, I'm going to do a F4U -1D (maybe two) From the Philippines Liberation era Oct-Dec 1944. The first will be a VMF 222 aircraft (The Flying Duces) Flying from the Samar air field and not sure what Bird yet, still trying to decide. The other will likely be a VMF 541 (N) F4U Night fighter either flying from the USS Coral Sea (I believe) or a short time later when they had secured the air fields in Cebu and Luzon. General MacArthur requested this Night Fighting squadron by name, to clear the area and skys for his anticipated return. Much to his later disapproval, MacArtuur found that they had erected a sign at the entrance of their airfield which read..."Then with the help of the US Marines MacArthur returned to the Philippines".

Will start soon as all the "Goodies" arrive!
