Lovely work on that Lanc, Rob! The new collector ring color looks much better!

Tks guys. The Testors bronze I put on looked like a 70s customized van colour!! LOL. Anyway, it worked out much better. Yes, Joe, trimming out those Cartograph decals was the way to go. Cartograph produces a nice set of decals, but, they are thick. You can`t hide that clear carrier film against black paint, thus, the meticulous trim job.

Joe: Thanx, Mexico was great!!

So, I mixed a combo of red-brown and hull red and I am happier with the cowl bronze-ish coloration on the cowls:

Rob, that Lanc is looking great.

The cowl ring on the engines is actually metal that has discoloured from heat, that is what gives it a golden brown look.  I have seen some talk about a special paint applied to them to reduce the glow when really hot, but not sure if it applies to this subject.

I remember a thread, elsewhere, from last year.  The members give a few ideas on how they tackle the colouring - might be an idea to take a gander:

Hey Rob, First, let me say that it is good to have you back. How was your vacation? I hope it was warm and invigorating.

Now, let's turn our attention to that gorgeous Lancaster of yours. What a terrific body of work you have done so far. I second the work on your props. You did an excellent job of achieving a well worn look to them. But, what I really like is the effort you put into trimming your decals. Likely a monotonous amount of work but, the results are fantastic. The decals are clean and realistic. Absolutely wonderful work Rob.

Thanks Bish...I'm thinking maybe a red-brown for the cowls...that enamel bronze I used didn't work out well.

Great looking Lanc. I agree about the cowl's though, odd colour for those. I found this colour plate on wings pallet, but the cowls' here look more like the brown on the camo to me.

And I found this pic on the Sqn website of Zombie as well. I know its black and white, but might give you some idea.

Great looking Lancaster!  I love how you weathered the props, they look like they've seen a lot of use.

So, back at it. Got the engines done, half the props on, decals done, now, just rear wheel install and some minor pieces and then the final painting.

Engine detail and exhausts:

One of the props. I'm going to do something about the bronze cowl paint. Too metallic looking. Gonna find another option for that:

Zombie...nuff said!!:

to prevent silvering, I cut our each letter and roundel:

I had some time tonight so I got the LCVP ready for decals, have most of the stowage assembled and painted, and I got the machine guns together.  I really like the Academy guns, a lot of detail in a small package.

Got a little bench time today. Have the lower neutral grey painted. Purposely made recognition stripe on one stab different from other to look like a replacement.

sb, The LCVP looks pretty dadgum from here. I can see some of the results of your preshading and it looks great.

Jibber, the ones I find are on the IPMS website.  There's a contest/show in your neighborhood in early May.

I got around to painting the LCVP tonight, and I'm a little disappointed in my photography skills as I just can't get a good picture tonight that really shows the preshading.  You can see the panel lines in the picture but the streaks are a little harder to see.  Looks really nice in person though.

Bob, Greg, I live in Trenton, Mi. Do you know of any shows in the area or how can I find a schedule. Everything around here is RC or Star Trek etc. I wouldn't mind driving a couple hours to one.

Niles, Michigan actually.  I usually go to the show in Kalamazoo, but they didn't have one this year.  Somehow, I talked my wife into making a weekend out of going to Dayton and to also see the Air Force museum.

Thanks for the link, they do look good and you're right about them being a bit on the pricey side.  With the figures, obstacles, and other diorama supplies I might not be able to swing those prices...I'll just have to see what I can score at the IPMS show at Wright-Patterson AFB next weekend.

Bob I've built tall ships for a long time and I know a lot of knots so I thought I could just tie up some of these bumpers, but in this scale I just couldn't get it. The line you need to use is just to soft, but these AM bumpers look great albeit a little pricey.

Jibber: I'd like to tie some up, but I don't know the knots or what I should use.  If you wouldn't mind sending me a link I'll decide if I want/can spend the money.  Hopefully I'll get some paint put on in the next couple of days, been a busy spring break so far.
