Thats a nice cockpit Joe. Good attention to detail there.

Anyone know what type of gunsight was in the D-5? Was it the same as later 109s? Revi 16B?

Good question. I have not actually come across anything about gun sights, or bomb sights for that matter, fitted to Stuka's. The wing guns were used for ground attack, so I am not sure if those gunsights would be suitable. I know the Ju 88 had a dive bombing sight, but I have not come across anything about the Stuka's sight. You would have thought they had a bomb sight at least.

Just been looking through the Manfred Griehl book. From the B-1, a Revi 12C was fitted. In the Squadron book it does mention that on some D-5's the gunsight was moved to a small blister in top of the front cockpit, but no mention it was changed.

The gun sight used was a Revi C12D mounted to the top of the IP and at the top fo the windscreen was the Stuvi 5 bomb sight. Will post pics in a bit.

Ok here we go. The Stuvi 5:

and a little text about it....

Been waiting for this one for awhile Bish!  Really like the twists in the build. Put me down to begin with, for a 1/48th scale, Monogran pro kit Ju 87"B" Thanks! I think I would like to maybe do a winter paint scheme...

Sweet info guys! I do have a quickboost C12D set, so I'll be putting in one of those on top of the instrument panel. The kit one looks cruddy. So only certain Stukas were fitted with the Stuvi sight? No bombsight is included in my kit. Is there one in your Aires set Mustang?

Great info Mustang. The book I have mentions the Stuvi as well. It mentions the swivel mount as well. But I have never seen any pics of either site and all the other books don't seem to mention the sights at all. The Squadron book says the gunsight was mounted in that bulge at the top of the windscreen, but I think they have that wrong as it makes no sense at all. The bombsight makes much more sense.

Is that the Areo Details book?

Welcome aboard Doug, i'll add it to the roster.

Nathan, I can't say I have ever seen one in any kit, I will have to check on that.

Hey Bish if you have the Aero Detail book it's on page 55. As far as if I have one in the Aires set, I'll have to look. My set is for the B variant and the Stuvi was used on the D variant.

No, I don't have that bok, but I do want to add it. The book I have suggests the Stuvi was introduce on the A, going to have to try and dig further into that.

Joe: awesome info on the sights! I reckon the G2 only had the Revi sight as they didn't drop any bombs?

Doug: Welcome aboard! I can't wait to see that winter scheme!

I just got me PE set in the mail, and now I'm super excited about this build.  I'll have to build the radio boxes though, since they don't seem to be in the set.  Oh well, can't have everything right?Stick out tongue And after digging the box out of my stash to store the PE until I'm ready I'm glad I decided to do this with the night camo scheme because the decals in the box look like they are older than I am.

I've got a Revell Ju-87 D and a Monogram Ju-87 G-1 and those kits only have two seats, a control stick and two figures. No radios.  If you need some Bob, I have a spare Hasegawa overturn structure and some radios I could send your way.

Bish: there aren't any radios in the kit or the PE set.  It's the old Monogram Ju-87D, so there's hardly anything in the cockpit.

Mustang: thanks for the offer!  If you really don't mind I'll gladly take you up on it

Another option would be a resin set from Quickboost. Nothing is made specifically for the Stuka, but set QTB48199 is for the Tamiya Storch and they are the same radios for Ds and Gs. That is my plan anyway. I'm too cheap to buy a whole resin set, so I'm gonna cobble my cockpit together best I can, and scratch building radios and gunsights ain't my game! Especially when these small QB sets only run 6 or 7 bucks.

I plan on cutting out these radios and fitting them in my Italeri D-5:

I was going to suggest an Aires set of 48th German aircraft radio's, but seeing as Mustang has come to the rescue, It will save you the hassle. Nice one Mustang.

I have got to say, since becoming a member on this forum I have been super impressed with how helpful everyone is.  I am always blown away by the amazing work, but the tips and generosity I've seen is amazing.  I don't know that I would believe someone if they would have told me how great the people here are.

Its just how we lure people in Wink

You will find a lot of people here who if they have parts sitting in the spares box will happily send them on to others. And what goes around comes around. There will be a day when you have some spares that someone might need.

That's what's good about this place, its not a competition but rather a group where people try and help each other as best they can.

Hey Bob. Don't know if you've used the personal messenger yet but if you see a red highlight on the work "messages" in the R/H side of the home page screen, you have a message from me.

Hey Nathan, just had a chance to catch up with posts; this GB is extremely active! Anyhow, I'm more than likely using RLM 70/71 and 65. Pretty standard stuff I know but it's hard to improve on a classic.

Some guys were talking about the sirens early on and I noticed my plane doesn't even have the "nubs" on the gear. Apparently, some didn't, if color plates are to be believed. Also, many aircrew were not thrilled with them: "The howling sound not only distracted the enemy but also the crew". This quote from Friedrich Lang a pilot with 1./ St.G 2.

"Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time".

mikey, I am not sure which of the Airfix kits your doing, but I have seen pics of one of theres with the siren mounts and others without. But the mounts were not fitted until part way through the production of the B, so it is very possible to see a B without them. And the sirens themselves were fitted by the ground crew and there are a lot lf images showing them not fitted.

That's a nice bit of info there, I hadn't come across that.

Just in case anyone is not sure how they should look, this is how they arrived from the factory, with the mount faired over. As you can se, its bombed up and ready for action, so it was clearly decided not to mount the siren.

I know quite a few kits come with them like this.

And this is with the siren fitted.

Just lovin' the info that's here. We all start out, or at least most of us start out, knowing little or nothing about the subject that we are building (and I mean in depth knowledge here) and before you know it we come out experts on the subject because of all the good info back and forth. This is half of the fun here.

The other half is the build. I applied a coat of Humbrol Linen to the belts last yesterday.

After that dried I painted the buckles and weathered them...and while I was at it I also worked on the control column and all the seating.................................

Now what sucks is that I had to remove some of that floor detail so that the sidewalls would fit without interference from the area behind the pilots seat. Don't worry , that part will be covered by the front oxygen bottle apparatus.

Thanks Bish. I've been working on the part below the receiver and transmitter boxes to get all that up and going. I painted that and the overturn structure this morning and am waiting to weather both parts. They really pack alot of stuff into these Aires cockpits but the thing that I'm running into , and I would have run into this issue even with the Aries floor, is the overall fit of the side panels to the floor. For example the O2 bottles will contact the detail on the flooring , so trimming has to be done there. The receiver/ transmitter radios that I had painted up earlier need something to rest on instead of mounting the overturn structure to the radios and letting the whole thing "hang" between the fuselage halves and for the life of me I can't understand why Aires had the dive brake control levers mounting on top of radio on the L/H wall in the middle of the cockpit??????????? To little research there and a hard lesson to learn for the unwary modeler who has to correct that later in the build. I'll post the pics in a little while to give a little better idea of what I'm talking about.
