Thanks for tips on acrylics Ken. I suppose I just need some more time with them. I've thus far only used them for smaller stuff so it's just part of the old learning curve. BTW I did the nav light on the starboard side in blue this time as I finally looked up close at one of the jets in our hangar and sure enough the thing looked blue when it's off!

Everyone's builds looked super so far. This is going to be another outstanding GB; lot of talent out there. Well, off to bed for me as I'm starting to doze off already.

That was actually Cliff that gave you the tips.  But I will add some more info.  I myself hate painting with acrylics for the very same problems you encountered.  Cliff did mention using a retarder.  One that I found that seems to work pretty good is from a company called "Liquitex" and the product is called "Slow-Dri Fluid Retarder".  Here is a link to where you can purchase it:

Hi Everyone!

Yes, the military had all kinds of uses for nuclear devices.  The USAF also had the BOMARC missile for destroying enemy bomber formations:

It was typically armed with a 10 kiloton nuclear W-40 warhead.  They were deployed at 9 USAF bases and 2 bases in Canada.

One of those USAF bases was a base that my family was stationed at, Suffolk County AFB in New York.  My Dad was assigned to the 98th Fighter Interceptor Squadron as a crew chief on the F-101B.  I have an 8mm film that my Dad took at an "Open House" while we were there and one of the exhibits was a BOMARC missile!

The US Army also had a nuclear tipped shell that was shot from an artillery gun for use in battle.

Cool picture, Ken! I remember the BOMARCs though I never saw a real one. Built a model of one a  lonnnnnng time ago .

Thanks Russ!  There is one exhibited at the USAF National Museum in Dayton OH.  I am going there this summer to see the air show.  I plan on spending a few extra days there to visit the museum again.

Hi Everyone,

Speaking of missiles, I have gone off the beaten trail of aircraft and purchased something that I do not normally purchase.  It is a model of a missile!  The Martin-Marietta LGM-118A Peacekeeper ICBM MX to be exact.  The grand daddy of them all (at least for the United States).  It is produced by Advante Games & Hobbies in 1/48 scale.  This puppy could carry up to 10 re-entry vehicles, each armed with a 300-kiloton W87 warhead/MK-21 RVs!  Here is a picture:

As bad as things are now thank God the Cold War is over. There's enough nukes around now but it's nothing like the Free World and the Soviets pointing guns with hair-triggers at each other's heads for fifty years.  

All I will say is watching the recent headlines is scaring the bejesus out me....

I hear you Jim!  I am wondering if at anytime I am going to see a great bright flash through the windows!

I totally agree with the dio idea Cliff!  That would be awesome!  Maybe with it barely clearing the silo, using cotton to imitate the smoke.

I just watched "Fail Safe" the other night. Interesting how the Airforce refused to contribute as they didn't want people to think that scenario could really happen. Producers were forced to use stock footage, with B-58's as 'Vindicators' and a few shots of an F-104, F-102, and yes, an F-101 Voodoo!

Maybe they will show "Dr. Strangelove" sometime soon! I love that movie. The first time I saw it was at a midnight movie. I think the humor was a little out of reach for the stoned, or mostly drunken crowd who usually frequented those shows.

I really like "Dr. Strangelove" also!  I have it on Blu-Ray.  A friend of mine and I watched it again a few months ago.  Still laughed my butt off!

One of those movies that's hilarious to me because the Cold War was over the first time I saw it, not sure I'd have found it quite as funny back in the 'Bad Old Days'.

I think just about all of us loved that movie. (Dr. Strangelove). Some of the irony may have went over our heads when we were younger but it's the kind of movie that gets better the more you see it.

I picked up strangeglove on disk a few months back. My dad was a huge Goon's fan, so of course I had Seller's drummed into me as soon as I could talk. The War Room line is a real classic.

But the best bit has to be Pickens riding the bomb down. Yee-Haa.

Glad to see air shows are back on! Unfortunately, there will not be one here this year due to a major reconstruction of one of the runways at the Front Range Airport. Wonder how long it would take me to drive to Dayton..... 

Well, I have been working a bit here and there on the Voodoo. Most of the time, I work a little, afterwards I'm then just too tired to catch up with WIP photos.

Friday I pretty much got wiped out by a major migraine, and its after effects which carried into Saturday.

I did manage to button up the wings to the fuselage: The left side was being a bit stubborn so I had to use rubber band power to get it to cooperate. Right side gave very little argument.

I also did some assembly of the fuel tanks and the Falcon missiles that you can just barely see on the right (nothings attached yet, dry fit only. You can also see that the gear bays are not boxed and I wasn't going to do a bunch of work for what's supposed to be OOB build. The bays have since been painted, but no photos yet.

More later, but I need to get some rest. Lack of proper sleep can be a trigger for migraines......

Jim: Again looks good! Rubber bands are the modeler's best friend! Had to go though a bunch of rotten ones that snapped as soon as I put pressure on them the other night before I found a good one though!

Funny those are great old kits but yeah there are annoying things like the landing gear bays being totally open though.

Yes, it is very refreshing to see the air shows and their main attraction getters (Thunderbirds, Blue Angels, etc.) back in full swing this year.

But one demise was our local Indianapolis Air Show.  They stated that they will never return.  It is so sad because 1. It was so close, and 2. it was at an airport where you could see the static displays in addition to seeing them take off and land.  And they always had war birds, which is my favorite to see!

We have a few airshows that is closer than Dayton, but they are not at airports.  You only get to see the planes flying past.  Not much of a show for me.

I don't think we have had a decent show here since 1997 when an F-86 crashed during a performance. (I was there that day!)

I wasn't too far from where that video was shot and even from that distance, you could still feel the radiant heat from the fireball.It was hot that day and the airport already sits at about 5500 feet in elevation. The air was very thin and many of the acts were struggling as it was. It wasn't too fun to watch somebody die right before my eyes. The Thunderbirds were scheduled to perform that day, but never did as the show was cancelled for the entire weekend..

Since then, shows have been downsized with continued debates about safety, esp. with all the encroaching development going on all around the airport. No shows have included any major acts such as the t-birds.

By the way, I said Front Range Airport before, it is actually Rocky Mountain Metropolitan.

Yes, last year at the Dayton Air Show they had a tragedy as well.  A wing walker and the pilot was killed.  All caught on video:
