It's gettin' real now.

All my gear is on deck and it is now a matter of awaiting the green flag to launch this build.  I don’t plan to go too overboard with this build but we’ll see how the plan plays outs.

I could not pass on posing the future LVT build next to my current LVT build, Italeri’s LVT2 which is receiving the full load out of all the AM resin & PE I could get my grubby little paws on.

Very cool Tim, really looking forward to the build and I'm with Wayne on this one, I think I've spent more on this kit than almost any other.

I've got a trip to KC in a week or so, planning on dropping in to Hobby Haven and picking up a Tamiya IDF M1 Sherman for the turret to go with my Tamiya M51, so that will get me all the parts I need for the M1 Super Sherman. If not there, Squadron Scalefest is coming up....

I've got a pic somewhere of one of these in Jerusalem, 1967, have to dig it up pretty quick.

i just ordered $80 worth of pe for my BM-21. I HAVE NEVER done that for an armor model. so WTH order the pe set for soviet MAZ tank transporter. some days its more money than sense.

Whoops, where'd the time go? I've been busy on a commissioned build (my first!) , so this GB will have to sit on my back-burner  until late June, I think.

By the way, it seems Dragon's put out a new M48A3 kit, on preorder on their US site, so I should be able to get one soon.

P Mitch - thanks for reminding of the Beutpanzer site.  Interesting, the Germans actually converted several of these into an artillery platform to carry a 10.5cm, and sent them to the Russian front.

Anyhow, I've the C version in the stash as well.  Out of curiosity, I looked for some info on which units had them in the desert.  Unless you plan a complete Italian paint over, a number of British units identified can found in this very in depth discussion here:

Apparently an order was sent out June 2nd 1941 to stop using the light tanks as a replacement for cruiser losses.  They were, instead, to be converted to the AA role.  So this date should give us a more accurate time frame of when they could of been captured.  Jentz is also quoted as stating 13 light tanks as losses before Operation Compass, though some believe this number could be higher.

ooooh,  would you have a photo of the C type that is captured in the desert?  I've never seen one, in fact I've only come across one photo of this particular mark  in North Africa.  

There also might be evidence of a German captured example during the battle of France 1940.

found a decal set that some might be interested in. I bought a set for the panzer III and like the colour photos and the decals came in 72, 48, and 35 scale on the same sheet.

Jack - thanks, that's some good info.  I found reference to the M5 part, but not the Humber connection.  Of course, I did not order a Humber in my stack of kits...I'll have to look into that one.

Chuck - that is one very different subject.  Did a quick google, no official name found, probably because it was a one off.  I've found mention that the base is the M5 halftrack, the main turret is Daimler, but the cannon and mantlet is further cobbled from a Humber IV armored car

Tim - I'm unaware of any special designations given to the modified half-tracks.  There were a bunch of versions, that's for sure.  Sorry.  Remember, I'm just a poor airplane guy - maybe some of the armor experts here can fill in the blanks...

It's a standard "home-grown" design that they used on a number of their improvised/converted armor, including the M2 Scout Car that I had originally intended to build.  I think it's interesting that the little turret has an MG34 mounted.  Quite the eclectic set-up.
