Here's my progress on the F104. I'm trying a Acrylic Gloss Black instead of lacquer or enamel. I'm doing this for a couple reasons. In one post cs.finescale.com/.../162163.aspx, Neptun48 did a great job experimenting on several different primer coats for the Alclad. I liked the acrylic look, plus it cures much faster. Hopefully I can get the aluminum on this weekend.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Okay. Finally got around to uploading some pictures. I need to let the chrome silver for under the nav lights to dry anyway.
Here are the rocket motors drilled out, and completed with the bombs, and the launch points removed and installed under the wings.
The brittle plastic stymied me when trying to get the folding wings into the extended position; the little tabs broke off. As a result, I had to just but join them.
I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.
Have fun.

The acrylic will work too. Just make sure it is smooth and glossy. You can even use future for the non high shine Alclads.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
My second entry is completed. That means I will be a "MADE MEMBER" !!! Let the initiation begin!!!
Shot some Testors flat lacquer to kill the Future gloss. The Lozenge was a bit of a challenge cause those decals are over 25 years old and were very delicate. I had to use several craft acrylic colors to custom blend matching shades to touch up some decal parts that were either too short or just flaked after applying. The bottom 1/8th trailing edge had to be painted to complete the pattern. The scratch built cockpit improves the looks of this old Aurora/Monogram kit.

Thanks Mississippi. I love watching that Hew Haw!!
PJ, your a Master!
I shot the Alclad and it goes on nice. Went through a lot of it though.
Found out the prep work needs to be perfect. You can see every imperfection if it's not.
I do not care for this kit or build. I'm missing the wheels and the decals are just coming apart. I applied some Micro Sol liquid decal film, but too late to save the US Air Force decal for the side. I bet I can find a replacement though. I don't think I'll waste the Aim 9's and leave the racks empty.

Your Alclad on the 104 looks great. Any missing parts can be obtained from Revell/Monogram.
You may be able to save those decals if you brush on a product called Superfilm. It will keep your decals from fracturing. I had somewhat the same experience with the old lozenge sheet I used.

Modelcrazy, don't get frustrated just yet! I have a couple of sets of aftermarket decals for the -104. If you'd like them, just say the word and I'll send them to you gratis. Not only that, I won't charge you anything. Let me know.

Eagle, thank you for the photo with the Jeep & Gun together.
AJD, your P-39 looks great! I am looking forward to your next build for here.
CC, great progress so far on your F6F

2022 New Year's Resolution: Enter 1 group build and COMPLETE a build this year!! Why Photobucket did you rob me of my one Group Build Badge??? Must be part of the strong anti-Monogram cartel!!!

Love the Fokker, PJ!! Well done, sir!!!
Thanks TAD and stik. Ouch! I was expecting holding a hand over a candle or an Xacto blade slicing my pinky.
PJ that Fokker looks awesome! Congrats on being "made". Modelcrazy you're coming along nicely on the 104. I'll eventually get around to building one myself, I've always liked that shape. Well I've been having problems with my iPad, and photobucket wouldn't upload my pics. Got that fixed so here's an update on my second build, the P-61. Enjoy
Nice work, Woody!
Thank you much sir!
Woody, you have done a top notch job on the interior so far.
Thanks woody and great work on that pit!
Oooooo! The P-61! It's my all-time favorite plane. Remember, when you're done, you can ship that bad boy directly to me.
Can't wait to see how it turns out. I'll be watching this one!
Thanks everyone. Unfortunately, because of work I've had to slow down just a bit, but planning on a serious jam session this weekend.
I'm going to call my Hellcat done to the best of my ability!
Since the photos were taken, I've touched up the grey ring around the cowling.
Colin, I've never been impressed with the Monogram F6F, but you've made that old gal look awesome!! And nice job on the Airacibra too, she'd look good sharing a ramp with the one I just completed.
Oh and Stik, I've decided my 2nd build will be the bubble top Jug... Now question ya'll: for the .50's on the cowling of my P-39, I used 3/64 inch brass tubing. Now I know that doesn't scale out correctly, but my eye can't tell. How do they look to you guys, honestly? I'm thinking about doing the same thung for the .50 blast tubes on the P-47.
Thanks, ajd, I appreciate the compliment. I think your tubing would look fine. The only thing I had to refer to was a 1/16" drill bit, which would be just under twice the diameter of your tubing.
Nice work Colin!
On Ed's bench, ???
O GOD WOODY! I haven't seen the dreaded 1/48 black widow since i got frustrated and threw mine back in it's stash box. lol I LOVE that plane but just dry fitting it was giving me nightmares. I want to build it so bad. Yours is looking amazing. Can you give me some tips to get over some of it's major obstacles? (and there are many!!) Keep up the great work!
If I recall, from my P-61, the worst part was the seam on the top of the crew nacelle. It also doesn't line up with the front canopy. The other tricky part I remember was the ammo belts for the outer cannons. I had to heat them up in boiling water and bend them in for them to fit.
AJD, your P-47 Bubbletop is added to the roster
CC, I see that I missed your first completions of the P-39 here earlier. That has now been corrected, You are now a "Made Man" in the Familia...
I guess I picked the wrong week to quit drinking...
