B-1, you are sizzling along in your progress here! Nice work on the 'pit so far!
Mike, the 452nd was (and still is) an Air Force Reserve unit that was mobiolized in 1950 and sent to Korea early on during the War there. They flew day and night in NMF, Black, and OD Invaders and their aircraft are fairly well documented and represented in decal sheets. Finally around 1952 or so they were "relieved" in place (actually just a change of colors/designation thing) and sent back Stateside. Although the same pilots flew the same planes against the same targets before and after the 452nd was finished with their time in Korea. The 452nd later became an Air Refuleing and Air Mobility Wing and I had a chance to ride in their KC-135s to Germany for deployments and drop from their C-141s a few times.
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

I've seen a lot of great stuff lurking around here, and I'm ready to show my progress so far. I'm doing my P-39 up assuming that it belonged to a training unit, so it will be fairly clean. I'm playing with the idea of painting the 500 lb bomb as a practice bomb.
I've got the cockpit mostly finished (except for a few touch ups and changes) as well as a few other odds and ends around the fuselage.
I've since painted the back of the IP. I'm also going to put some scuff marks by the rudder pedals. I'm going to show the engine bay open. Would this make sense with a practice bomb mounted, or would the ground crew wait for everything to be buttoned up before adding ordinance?

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.
Have fun.
That Airacobra office is looking nice colin! I have mine on its way here in the mail, so hopefully I'll be joining you soon
Got everything nearly ready for the last step: decals. Paint is a little rough (what I get for rushing it), but decals are covering most of it, and some Novus should shine her up some.
Stik, I made a mistake on my selections and put down a P-39. It should be this NASCAR stocker. Sorry for screwing that up.
Good to know, Stik. I did a google for the 452nd, and found a lot of info is available. Those red on black birds from the Korean War are a good looking and challenging scheme, so in addition to the canopy, I'll source some decals for the build.
Thanks for the info!
Mike
Lookin' good, Colin! You'll need a load of lead in the front end of that bird, if you want it to sit on the landing gear. It's a pity because the guns look so cool. I think I loaded up the entire nose with small fishing weights and that did the trick. A great model; look forward to your progress!
2022 New Year's Resolution: Enter 1 group build and COMPLETE a build this year!! Why Photobucket did you rob me of my one Group Build Badge??? Must be part of the strong anti-Monogram cartel!!!

Strange to see a NASCAR racer 'in the buff" before the sponsors get to it!! LOL
Yeah, if I was smart, it'd be grey primer with a car number on the side, but no...I just had to have Tom & Jerry on the hood...
LOL!! That'll be pretty cool! I'll be looking for that one!
Hey guys great work going on , well done. Stick, I have finally picked my two entries. They will be the F-8 Crusader andthe Revell F-86. Both in 1/48
Steve
Got the bottom and top fuselage halves glued together...didn't remember it being as difficult the past two times as it was this time. Oh well, I've got plenty other builds to distract me from throwing this guy against the wall if I get too irritated

Lots of great modeling going on this thread. Great job gents. Been under the weather these two couple of days but managed to make a little progress on my Voodoo.
I'm doing the gluing by sections as there are a few gaps that need attention as in the wing joins to the fuselage but are corrected by the masking tape pulling up on the wing closing the thin gap along the fuselage.
The rear fuselage sides have a thin gap near the cans. I stretched some sprue and used it as filler along with Tenax applied with a Touch N Flow applicator. The Tenax melts the sprue making a solid join which after curing can be sanded producing a smooth repair. After the top of the model cures, I will tackle the bottom gaps. The weapons bay is made to rotate but I will Tenax it to the main body to minimize the gaps. I had to carefully carve the inside joining areas to get even join lines. Right now it's loose and sloppy but not after carefully applying Tenax and adjusting the angles.

Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Junkie, love the Voodoo so far. And I feel you about being under the weather. I have to be the only guy in Anerica thats able to catch a cold in the middle of freakin' summer...
Nice work on those Century Series birds, y'all!
Here is where I am at with the Eagle. I think since I am pretty well ahead of the deadline I will hit the brakes on this one for a bit while I combat a YF-22 conversion to a F-22A.
I tried covering the seams in the intakes by precutting a sheet of stryene to the shape of the inlets. I then applied a small amount of putty where the sheet ended. I snaded them and painted them. I think they come out pretty well. Mounted the CFT's and applied putty to some really big gaps Building the Exhaust cans. These are going to look good when painted for a kit part.

Great progress all around guys! This is the first chance that I have had since Monday morning to look in here on anything bigger than my phone's screen. Much better to see on a full size monitor!
YM and PJ, nice work on your Century series birds. Always favorites to see!
B-1, I like the idea of the sheet styrene in the intakes to hide the seem. Very clever! I may have to borrow that technique. Those kit burner cans look great!
MV, what sort of car and scale is your NASCAR kit?
B1
Clever idea for the intake seam. I may just have to borrow ur idea when I build mine. Great job on the Eagle.
Question for Don stik........Can I start on the second Monogram model for this GB or do I need to finish the Voodoo first?
Go right ahead PJ, work on one or as many as you want at a time.
Yeehaww! I get to attach the wings in the morning! Picture progress report afternoon!
Darrin
Setting new standards for painfully slow builds
KM, I am looking forward to the photos... we needs proof...
And to all youse mugs on here, the GB badges are now posted on the front page post with the roster. No using the badge until your two here are done... even if you are already "made"...
Great stik. I will start next week on the old Monogram 1/48 Fokker DVII that I got from Squadron many moons ago.
Well I guess I have started my builds tonight. Got some paint onto the F-8 to prep for constuction. While that dried I checked out the F-86 and was seriously dissapointed in it. Very clunky and lacking in any detail. I will do the best I can with it though

One down, one to go. Here it is in all it's "Limited Edition" glory...the Monogram 1/24 scale Cartoon Network Monte Carlo! Featuring Tom and Jerry on the hood, Dexter's laboratory on the port side, and Cow and Chicken to starboard, with a driving tip from Droppy on the stern:
One of 10,000 produced; glad I got it on clearance...bet it's still $5 somewhere. In tandem with the Scooby Doo car: The Scooby Doo car was fun when I built it in the 90's: I bought Tru Match paint in a can, and it came out like Silly String at first; thought it was ruined but the paint ended up being usable.

Very very nice! Great job !
Everyone your works look awesome! Here's the BUFF ready for final seam work and primer. This thing is big......
Darrin, it's coming along nicely! How far away did you have to be in order to get it all in the frame?
Here's some small progress with the -106
Got the front of the fuselages puttied up and am trying PJ's method.

About 5 feet. It is a tick over 30" wingspan.
