Yeah, I've got a few bullet sinkers in my tackle box I never use that I was planning on glueing in there.
Build#2 Completed. Revell 1/48 F-15E
Build #1 left build #2 Right
All right, B_one! You a marked...errr.....made man!
Oh yeah. B_one those look awesome! Sorry folks I haven't had time to do anything to the Buff, we just had our busiest month ever at the shop. I have worked late most days and when I get home I am just too good-n-tired to even take sandpaper to putty. Eerrgghh. This month holds more promise.

Setting new standards for painfully slow builds
Well my P-39 is missing both parts # 47 (cowling MG barrels) anyone know if there is brass tubing made in 1/32"?
Thanks all, ajd you could try and go to the revell site and submit a parts request. I had to do that for my second build. It had no landing gear so they sent me a set for free.
Oh thanks friend! I didn't even know they did that. Thats good to know; I also have a P-47 in the stash missing a tail wheel.
Well I've decided to go ahead and paint the gun bay. You can see the bottom side of it looking up in the front gear doors, so if I'm gonna take the time to do half of it, might as well do the whole thing right. I'll snap a picture or two of it before I button up the fuselage. May be a few days though; have a super busy day tomorrow. Gonna be all over NE TN.
Great work going on here fellas! I am loving it! B_1, when do you sleep? LOL! Wow!
Wow! Great finishes already!. I haven't even started yet, we had a family issue come up. I'm hoping to start putting glue to styrene in the evenings this week.
The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.
HI guys! Is it too late for me to join? I just started my 1/48 F-89C on Sunday.
Eric
Eric, welcome aboard! This GB has no cut off date, and your 6 months for two builds has started as of Sunday...
I found this photo of B_1 for when he's between builds...
Eric, you have been added to the front page roster.
Great work guys...
Eric, you've made me a jealous man. I've been looking for the F-89C kit and the aeromaster sheet with the Idaho ANG ship, and I've never been able to find either at a decent price.
OK Stik I was asleep at the wheel. I am jumping in now, if that is all right. I have an F-8 that I will build.
stikpusher I found this photo of B_1 for when he's between builds... Eric, you have been added to the front page roster. Great work guys...
Speedy added .
Thank you Stik! For the second kit, could you please put me down for the 1/48 scale Monogram A-37 Dragonfly? It'll be my first time building that kit and I've heard it's a fun little build.
Thanks!
MK, which F-8 kit is the one that you are building? I know that Revell did a 1/72 Crusader originally, and then there is the Monogram 1/48 F-8 as well...
Eric, your Tweety is added to the roster. I know that I keep eyeballing that kit in my stash.
Stik,
The F-8E will be the 1/48th offering. Plus I have been digging around and I found a 1/48th Thunderstreak. It is a Revell of Germany kit but, I am pretty sure that it is Monogram molds. So I am thinking that this would be my second build. If not I have a T-6 or a P-40B that I can use.
Great stuff happening here. You guys are doing an awesome job and B1 should be renamed to "Supersonic Catch Me If You Can!" You sure do build fast dude and those Eagles look great.
Not much to photograph at this time but just a short update. I finally got rid of the nasty join lines along the bottom wing running just a bit behind the leading edge. Don't understand why they put a join line there since there is no panel line there to begin with. It also had a narrow valley where they met that required multiple applications of thick CA smoothed out with a toothpick. Took about 4 application to fill in the valley but it's invisible now after sanding and polishing and re scribing some minor details.
Getting ready to attach the nose cone and masked canopies prior to shooting multiple black and grey panel color variations in prep for the Alclad polished aluminum that I will be using. I have experimented in the past with this method which gave subtle variations in panel colors using one Alclad shade.
Will post some pictures once I get there.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Ajd,
I sent you a message. I haven't heard back from you so I don't know if you saw it or not. Have a gander at it and let me know what you think.
PJ, I'm looking forward to more photos of your progress on the Voodoo.
MK, your choices are added to the roster.
Stopped by the LHS yesterday. They didn't have a P-51, so my second build will be a 1/48 scale Hellcat. Not much of a cockpit, but it looks like it will be a fun build, and I need a US Navy plane on the wall anyway!
I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.
Have fun.
Great Eagles you got there, B-1!!!!
2022 New Year's Resolution: Enter 1 group build and COMPLETE a build this year!! Why Photobucket did you rob me of my one Group Build Badge??? Must be part of the strong anti-Monogram cartel!!!

Hi everyone!
First a little disclaimer. I love Revell/Monogram kits and I will do my best to complete what I have started. I hope I can get both kits done in six months. Normally it takes me that long to build ONE model kit if I'm lucky. So in order to push myself to stick with this committment, I'm going to try my best to post some "in process" photos. Of all the years I've been on the FSM forum, I think this will be my very first time posting an in process build. And away we go...
The F-89C cockpit is pretty much complete. I haven't painted the belts because I intend on putting the pilot figures in the cockpet. I figure the pilots will cover them up. I used Model Master enamels for all colors except the black. Those were done with Floquil paints. I applied a coat of Future and then, after that curerd for 24 hours, I gave it a wash of Tamiya smoke thinned with rubbing alcohol with a tiny little drop of dish soap. The whole works was then given a Model Master flat coat from a rattle can and then given a dry brush treatment with MM light aircraft grey.
The rear cockpit certainly looks busy enough but I don't know that I've ever seen a picture of a real rear cockpit instrument panel that looks like the one provided in the kit.
Thanks for watching! I hope to have more progress to report soon.
Very nice cockpit there Eric. That Scorpion is certainly a big bird! Almost the size of a WWII medium bomber...
CC, the Hellcat is noted... looking forward to that here. An oldie but goody!

I have that one in my stash and it's a HUGE model. I should have gone with a 1/72 scale instead. The molded details are fantastic. I was reading an article about a couple of errors by Monogram on this one but are easily corrected. I can't remember where I read the info.
Your office looks great! Will you be using Alclad on this beast?
Thank you Stik and Plastic. :o) Yes it is definitely a huge bird! I have an old F-89J which I built back in the '90s sitting next to some WW2 fighters of the same scale. The WW2 planes definitely look like little shrimps compared to the F-89!
While I do have Alclad paints on my shelf, I think I might lean towards the Floquil Silver Mist and Old Silver paints. That's how I did my last Scorpion and I was quite happy with the result. I think Alclads are great paints when in the hands of talented individuals. Sadly, I don't think I qualify for that category. I've only done two models in Alclad. The first one came out phenomenally! However, I attribute that to beginer's luck. The second one came out pretty bad. I can't even begin to guess how I messed that one up. I'm not against trying Alclad again but I need to get over being a little gun-shy when it comes to using it again. However, the more I think about it right now, maybe I will give it another try. You've definitely planted a seed in my head now! LOL!
Oh, and Plastic, you're right. There are a couple of small, easy to deal with errors on the -C kit. One is that there shouldn't be those two dorsal air scoops back by the tail. Those are easily sanded and removed. The other error which I just found out about a couple of days ago is that the rocket stubs under the wings should be removed. From what I read on-line, the stubs were discontinued starting with the -C variant. That was news to me. In the interest of moving the kit along and finishing the builds, I just might skip this part and leave them on. I just won't put any rockets on them. I don't know. We'll see how the spirits move me when I get to that point. Same with the scoops.
Eric: nice looking cockpit.
