Sounds good, Josiah. Years ago I read The Rising Sun by John Toland. It was an education about the fighting in Asia well before things heated up in Europe.

 

A greatbook, I read it a couple years ago. An in depth look at not just the military operations but also the political situation before and during the war.

Im reading Hubris by Alistair Horne right now (which gav  me the idea for this gb) and its proving to be a good read as well, im scouring his bibliography for more sources on the Nomonhan incident

Really great work going on here guys! I've been away from the bench working on a home project...but hopefully I'll be able to get started sooner than later. Keep up the great work!

I got more done to this Airfix 1:48 scale Hurricane.  I attached the flight control surfaces, radiators and windscreen.  I'll start on the masking and the landing gear, and she should also be ready for paint in a week or so.  Here are the progress pictures...

Well, back to the bench.  As always comments and questions are always welcome!

Checkmate, question. I was not ever able to get off the ground with my build for this GB last year, but now I see you have extended this GB, and I would still love to partake. Would my 1940 French tank still be a go, or would a 1941 subject be in order now?

Stik:  you can still complete your project for the 39/40 GB.  It'll stay open until the 75th anniversary 1945 GB.  I wanted to give anyone and everyone a chance to be in a GB for the whole anniversary of WWII.

So, you can do both--something for 39/40 and something for 41.  I plan on opening up a 1942 GB on 1 January, 2017; a 1943 GB on 1 January, 2018, etc.  All the GB's would then run till 31 December, 2020.

Checkmate...I got the new, gorgeous 1/72 HE111 P2 from Airfix for Xmas and she's decked out for a 1940 scheme...so, reading through the first page, I see you've re-opened the 39/40 build, so, please allow me to get in on this with this pretty Luftwaffe bird....got a big build going with an aircraft carrier atm, so, I won't get to the 111 for a bit. 

I also got the new 1/72 Airfix Wildcat and Beaufighter. They are mid/late war, so, I'll keep my eyes open where to slot those in.

I'll be watching that Rob. I want to get that kit and do it in the pre war 3 colour scheme, sounds like another nice Airfix kit.

Yep, Hasegawa did one they labeled that. But seeing as that kit is hard to find and the Airfix kit plus AM decals stil works out cheaper, and its not often i get to buy British, i am going to give Airfix a try. I built a Ju 87A in that scheme a couple of years back and relly like it. So much so that my Ar 555 will have a scheme based on it. And i like the ida of seeing it on a big surface like the He 111.

I find it strange, but, interesting to see that light grey on a Luftwaffe aircraft. I like it. I imagine getting markings for this era shouldn't be that difficult?

Xtradecal have released a set in time for the Airfix release which include one aircraft in that scheme. Its not all that easy to find markings for that scheme for a lot of aircrfat, though there are a few kits which come with it, such as the Special Hobby Stuka's and RS Do 17.

ok, I'll try and get the French tank started. And I am doing a DAK Panzer IV D for a GB with the AMPS chapter here. If it is ok to crossover with that for 1941?

Since I have signed on for the '41 GB I figure I should back up and get in from the start.

I've been wanting to get a vehicle other than a tank and I like the idea of support vehicles. So I would like to sign on with this please.

Is the scale you're working with 1/48?  I usually add that information, too, and 1/48 was the only Albion from Airfix that came up.

"Now for something completely different"...just finished a 1/700 aircraft carrier for that GB and now to change gears and get back into my main subject area...1/72 aircraft. I got the new superb He111 P-1 from Airfix for Xmas and she's on the go.

She's got tons of parts and a massive clear parts sprue the likes I've never seen. construction is going well thus far and the parts are falling together like most of the new Airfix kits do. She's engineered so well, I suspect, for a large plane, it won't be spending a ton of time repairing gaps and sanding.

The interior of the fuselage is well appointed and rigged out with gear. Won't be easily visible, so, I'm keeping the interior work simple.

Nice start Rob. That rear inside looks like it has more to it that the hasegawa kit, which is a good sign.

Cruising along quite nicely on the Heinkel. The wonderful engineering of this kit is making for a very enjoyable and easy build.

The bottom with the gear wells went on well (wheel wells not pictured...forgot to take a pic before I installed the top wing). Lots of places for cementing making it fall into place easily.

No fill wing mounting. The wing roots fit tight on the first try, welding nicely with thin cement.

I used a silver Sharpie to test the seam on the top of the fuselage. I used thin CA glue to seal then sanded lightly and polished. Happy with the seam, it's pretty much flawless and this Airfix plastic polishes with little effort.

Basic cockpit detail. 

Got home from work to a waiting package from scalehobbyist :) The Albion is here and ready for building!
