I watched "The Right Stuff" last night and they mentioned that Chuck Yeager was an Ace in a Day as well. He was in a P-51 and was credited with 2 kills without firing a shot. According to wikipedia, one German panicked when Yeager camne up behind him and collided with another German.
A.K.A. Ken Making Modeling Great Again
BrandonK It's my understanding that the P-47 produced more Aces in a day than any other plane and they did most of those near the last days of the war. The F6F also produced the most Aces overall and had several done in one day as well. That would be a cool addition to the build.

I thought it would be a cool addition too Brandon

A lot !! And I mean A LOT!!
2024 Kits on deck / in process / completed
14 / 5 / 2
Yes Bish, Night Fighters are in as well.
greentracker98 BrandonK PM, for me, stands for ProModeler. It's an older ProModeler P-47N kit. Two birds, one is Cpt. John Vogt, 5 kills in one mission in one day (Drinkin' Sister). Other is Robert Redfield, Lt. with one kill, he doesn't qualify though. Are there quite a few of "Ace in a Day" Aces? If any one commits to one of these guys, I can do a special medal for this

Now there is an idea. I assume Night Fighters count as well.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

jgeratic Another question for the build parameter. Ace status is usually attributed to the pilot after his 5th confirmed. So what about those aircraft they flew before that, such as when they acquired their first, second, third or fourth kill - are those acceptable or is it limited to those flown after the achievement? regards, Jack

I'm allowing this as I am considering doing Robert S. Johnson and Egon Mayer depicting their first meeting When Mayer was denied another kill because of the P-47s structually capable attributes. This was before Johnson really got going adding up his score.
Also, If anyone has questions in the future, please read through my rules. Then If I haven't listed it, You can ask here.

Raymond G I think I can make that schedule work. I may do Robin Olds P-51 "Scat VI." Would you be opposed to me doing a double build diorama with his P-51 and F-4 side by side, with a figure of him standing in the middle? I know he didn't quiet hit number 5 in Vietnam... Raymond

The answer to that Raymond is That will work perfectly. That will make you a double ace. I'll look and see what medals he earned flying and dogfighting,
Stik - I didn't know that. but there are lots of guys and 1 or 2 women who were aces. Your more than welcome to join, and I hope you do. I thouight it would be a great and fun GB
On the Bench:
U.S.S. Arizona (Revell)
P-51D Tribute (Revell)
57 Chevy Bel Air
I am interested... but I gotta add that I dont think that there has been a new air ace minted since 1982 over Lebanon.... over 30 years now... the nature of air combat has changed a bit in the past few decades.
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

You don't have to committ yet. there is lots of time
I have 2 B 17s and a B 24 to finish before this GB happens
Ya, MC, I'm feeling a bit like a wildman. Looks like I've committed to 3 GB's plus one weekend GB for a total of 6 planes. No problem. As soon as I get this Mustang done I'll be able to rip right through them.
Actually greentracker,
I'd like to switch to an Italian ace in his MC 202. Don't know which one yet, there were a few. The problem was that the Italians didn't score victories individually, but rather as a group effort, similar to the Japanese. The other problem was not that the Italians didn't have talent, their fighters just didn't have the firepower to bring down the British or American aircraft easily.
I'll figure out who in particular before you start.
Steve
Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

It looks like 9 so far. Looking great !!!
Lookin better all the time.
I'm not going to say that cross/overs are not allowed. This is only because I've done some crossovers in the past; But I won't be doing any more cross overs. Sometime in the future, I will not allow it.
I now understand where some of you are coming from when you say "I don't do cross overs"
So to clarify. Cross overs are allowed in this GB
Also, there is lots of time to decide what your going to do. So take your time
Right now, I'm considering Robert S. Johnson and Egon Mayer
Thanks Ken, not 100% sure I will do that as its a part of a very large project, just considering it.
I'm easy to get along with. Read through your questions guys. I've answered each one.

Ok, just took a look at my stash and I have a 1/48 Tamiya Bf109E-4/7 Trop for pilot Major Helmut Wick of JG-2 who was credited with destroying 56 enemy aircraft and a German Ace and awarded their highest commendations. Their is a pilot figure in the kit. Does this one qualify for you criteria? Yes
I also have a Neville Duke Spitfire Mk VB. He was also an ace with 27 victories. Lybia 1941. Airfix 1/48 kit. This kit qualifies also? Yes
Hmm, well look at that. I also have a PM P-47N with two aces in the decal set. This one fits as well. Looks like I got some thinking to do on which one, or two to build. That medal on the badge is appealing.
Brandon, What kit is this What does "PM" stand for?
Bish -
Quick question ken. You said the figure could be any scale. Would a bust count - Yes. Just want to se what my options are. I have both a 32nd figure and a 1/9th Bust for one particular ace
Yea
You can pen me in too, not yet sure about the subject but i'll be in.
You're a Wildman Brandon.
LOL ! OMgosh, I found another kit in my stash with 5 aces in the decal set. It's a Spitfire kit from Italeri. I'm gonna go big on this build and try to get 3 kits done for it. What the heck. It only time, right?

I'm interested, I'll do some looking at my stash and see what I already have and then some looking on the net. I may do this if I find one I really want to build.
That makes 7 with Bruce; Anyone else??? looking good now!
I'm in, just watched a documentary about George Beurling, so I purchsed a Spitfire VB Trop and decals.
Bruce
On the bench: 1/48 Eduard MiG-21MF
1/35 Takom Merkava Mk.I
We have 6 entrants Does that make this GB an Ace? Anyone else want to jump into the furball?
Thanks everyone,
Its starting to look pretty good
Sure, count me in.
I have several ideas, including Rall's 109 G2
