I'm not sure what happened but here it is.
Wayne the more i'm looking at this photo the more i'm thinking this was one of the stage props for the move The Train. Same bldg, same shot? But this for sure is a real photo.
my research says some were dark yellow and brown but it isn't unreasonable to think a battery would go with a 3 color scheme, just like AFVs. i have seen no pictures of a 3 color scheme but absence of proof is not proof of absence.

I brushed the rear Firebox with a coat of Mr. Surfacer 500 and painted the interior Cab with a base coat of a Tamiya Flat Black and German Grey mix. I also did a test fit with the Tender to the frame. Several connecting rods and walkways were assembled ready for installation and I made another njig to hold the locomotive in an upside down position in order to connect the many brakes and connecting rods. This little step will pay off big. Terry

I've started spraying my base coat on some of the major parts and getting ready on others. I've assembled and sorted some connecting rods that are ready for priming. This is where the last jig I made will pay off. These rods and a few other parts are more easily installed from underneath and the jig makes that a breeze. Terry

I think the stars were actually in line and everything went together perfectly. I'd like to say I thought it would, but you really never know. Its usually something you hadn't thought of that screws you up but this time it worked. I've glued it up, clamped it in place and I'll let it sit for a while and let it get used to its new body. I'll move on to the wheels, brakes and connecting rods. I still have a lot of handrails, lights and smaller parts to install. Then weathering. Terry

That looks like a super detailed lit. It is really looking good.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

if you are talking about those black hose lines, they aren't air lines. they are sand lines to put sand ahead of the drivers for traction.
NOTE TO SELF don't build when unfocused. checked gondola and left side wasn't in the holes so i popped it off and sanded the pegs and opened the holes (cya in use) and will reattach it. also broke a little hook off the side but the kit has an extra one so just have to drill out holes. next time won't put them on so early. VALLEJO AV doesn't seem to brush paint as well on unprimed plastic
Yeah, Those are sand domes aren't they. I just remembered that after you mentioned it.
My mistake Wayne, I knew that but whose the confused one here. I'm really losing it…sand domes.
Anyway heres a close up of the pistons and part of one of the brake shoe assembly. On the shoes I put a base coat of acrylic steel then some graphite over it. I have a before and after photo, the graphite gives it some nice detail as it does on the piston assembly. I'm going to use some on the rod connections to show wear.
I'm not sure when I've enjoyed a build more than this one. It certainly has all the things I'm looking for in modeling, a fantastic subject, one of the best kits I've ever built, all the detail and weathering. Now I wished I had picked up the Cab AM kit. If I had to do it again, possibly with the BR52, a wood floor and super detail of the cab can be a build in itself.

got the frame fixed sans problems. front and back pieces on and the wood sides together. ready for touch up painting, haven't built the couplers yet because they have to work and the brake line hoses will have to connect to other cars. going to try out my COMART dark and light gray washes on this one.
You have a lot of builds going, how do you find the time. Wayne i've never heard of Comart products, are they similar to Flory's?
jibber You have a lot of builds going, how do you find the time. Wayne i've never heard of Comart products, are they similar to Flory's?
never heard off FLORY'S. COMART is acrylic, no thinning needed. they have a bunch of color and wash sets. feeling better and got a lot done today. still have touch up to do and decals before weathering. i haven't build the couplers yet as they have to work. and air hoses will be after i decide what is being coupled to what.
Wayne,
That looks down right dirty and used.
modelcrazy Wayne, That looks down right dirty and used.
i know and the only thing i have weathered is the underside and a bit of the iron on the wood sides.
Wayne that looks fantastic, what color did you paint the iron and how did you weather it? The wood and wheels are great.
Wow, some incredible work going on in here. Makes me want to get started on something with rails.
I did say I'd get back to you and now I am several months later. I got these two for Christmas and now I think I may be able to get started on them in another month or so. I do still need to pick up a few flatbed cars though since these did not come with them, despite showing them in the boxart:
Okay, That's my submission. If I can also find my Hasegawa 1/72 scale Leopold rail gun, I'll add that to it too.
Duke that'll be cool in that scale, a lot of detail in not so much space.
Oh yeah! There's a ton of photo etch in this kit too. That's gonna make it interesting.
i'll get the front page updated on Friday
jibber Wayne that looks fantastic, what color did you paint the iron and how did you weather it? The wood and wheels are great.
everything was primed rattle can gray, the wheels were painted MMA dark rust which still wasn't right so i scrubbed a red/brown/ochre/gray pastel mix into it really hard. rime of VALLEJO AV steel brush painted. everything is painted VALLEJO AV german gray.the rust on the wood is COMART dark rust misted at 12psi. the wood hasn't been weathered as yet, i think it's from handling and sanding other areas. i have enough smudges on the deck to need an overspray. i have some gray powders to do a review on and this may be a good test bed.
Thats turned out fantastic, everything in proportion and a nice used look. You really could see a bed of armaments, and supplies. I know a lot of builds show a Flak, but I would think they had an lot of these and supplies were a big demand.

could probably load a light AFV on it. we loaded M106A1 mortar tracks on lighter flat cars than those used for the M60A2s. i have a pic of it attached to the rear of a K-5 with the crew using the crane to offload palleted ammo. have primed the AM 280mm ammo and xeroxed instructions for trucks and ammo handling compartment. actually, during transport it was not attached to the gun truck so i could put that on a low side gondola. would have to make some chock blocks and tie down cables but AIM BIG BUILD BIG.
Sounds like work, whats new..

regarding?
I was thinking about the gondola with the K-5, thats a big order. I'm looking at my Leopold in 1/72 and the 35 must be enormous. Is it going to be the two tone Yellow/Brown?
