2015 Messerschmitt Bf 109 Group Build

Good grief you turn your head for a day on this GB and there's all kinds of activity missed. I'm going to have a chance to catch up later on today and will have to post a "super catch" up post to cover all the great posts, progress picture posts and completed builds. handiabled: Man I've gotta give you some good credit where it's due. All of your builds are nothing short of museum quality. Have you entered any in shows? I've got your build posted in the Completed Builds section and hope like hell you'll consider building another one in here. (Tell Hermann he's invited too! lol)

Johnny: Your Hasegawa interiors are looking swell! Two builds at once........not in a million years would I attempt that! (yet I'm running two group builds at one time  ).

Marc: That's some fancy foot work on that prop of yours. I love mods like this and it's a true testament to the kind of modeler you are. I really like the way that camo came out too. It's funny how we, as many builds as we do, sometimes forget the "order of battle" and get things backwards. You'll recover from this on the paint, I'm certain.

Joe: Good grief!! I have been following your builds for a while and I love all the detail you throw at these things. That engine detail is top notch as well. I threw what I thought was a lot of detail at mine but you've added a definite twist with that anti chafe tape over the fuel lines. The ignition wires that you fabricated look a lot better than the molded rubber ones that came with the kit.  I can say that the coolant hose coming out of the reservoir on the L/H side routes to the rear of the engine and that there is a crossover for the R/H reservoir from the L/H side. This is the engine that I built and took the routing from a couple of different resources in which I'll try to find. I used copper wire with sections of heat shrink for the rubber hose sections and PE scraps for the clamps.

First, I need a camera that can take closeups without blurring, Currently have a Sanyo 14 mega pixels and a "close up" option that stinks. Anyways, on with the build. I actually started this one in December after having it sit on  my shelf since the 2012 GB. It is a 1/24 scale Trumpeter early G6. Beautiful fine scribing that disappeared  with one sweep of 800 grit paper. Brittle plastic and decals that stuck where you first put them and shattered either before that or when you were trying to move them. Further no matter what, they silvered. This kit came as close to making me give up modeling as any I ever built. But I kept at it and made a fair model out of it at the end. Finished mid January

Okay, I can't get photobucket to work consistent. Will let me load some, ignores other attempts. Anyone know a good free photo hosting site or tips to get consistent results with photobucket?

That's one freekin' bad A Trumpy build there bud! Glad to see you in here and understand you've got a 109 K-4 you're lookin' at building. PB is all I've ever used but I think Doug(aka Rigidrider) and a couple of other folks are using flickr.

That looks great and looked like it worked for you. Wanna join with that K-4?

After fighting the G6 all the way to competion decided to try a less ambitous build, the 1/32 Edward BF109E-3. Aside from not being able to use the engine and have a removable cowl that fits, this was a fun kit. Painted it in stages just like they would have back in the day. Turned out pretty nice overall. Finished this one about a week and a half ago.

handiabled - awesome job with this Emil based in Libya!   The red detail on the land gear really stands out, great stuff!

Matt - super work on Priller's Emil.   As said before, the mottling on the wing surface really stands out from the norm, makes it that much more interesting.

70 - uber mottle on the fuselage, very nice overall!  I can't remember if this was an official entry to the group build or not, but will give you a thumbs up just the same

K-4 in mid build. Started it last week and am waiting for the decals I ordered. They were lost in shipment for over a week and with today being Presidents day I likely won't get them until tomorrow.. Have a 1/48 Hobby Boss 262A1 I'm working on until they get here. Here is where it is so far.

That detail is right on Matt! I can't get over the direct similarities to the 24th scale version of the same plane by Trumpeter.

Finally got to spend a little time with this thing. Getting pretty close, just small details left to do.

Jay, Handi and so many others -- gorgeous work, all! I spend a week at work, just looking in as time permits, and a whirlwind of work happens! There is a true cadre of talent here!

70 , Yeah, photo f***it is a real pain in the ***... now they are charging for storage , I think it was like 30.00$ a YEAR for the least amount of storage, dump them. Flickr is a tad complicated to use, (several extra steps involved to store and post) but if I can learn it, any body can. Jack helped me learn the basics of flickr, and I've been happy every since.

Everyone's builds are looking great!  The paintwork being put out there is wonderful, I only hope mine will look that good.  Havent had a whole lot of bench time lately, lots of honey-do's going on around the house.  However, the wife is heading to Israel for business next Sunday, so I should be able to get some good bench time in.

Nope,  Had a long weekend and have been in the "zone" with building.  The F is much further along now, fuselage is closed up and almost ready for primer.  Think that painting the kit is my favorite part.  Will try to get more pictures taken soon.

Also I am wanting to get this one finished as I am eagerly waiting on the arrival of a Tamiya 1/32 P-51 for the Mustang GB!

Seemed the right thing to be spraying white while it was snowing outside.  Dunno if this has been done before or not as a technique but it popped into my head so I figured I'd give it a try.  I sealed the camo with Testor's DullCote lacquer  since I knew it wouldn't be affected by the next step which uses alcohol.

 I painted the air frame... not the bottom ;)... with Tamiya white just getting enough down to cover the camo but still a bit splotchy.  Then I used a cloth just damp with alcohol to wear away the paint.  I actually did a bit more than what you see n the 1st photo.  Then I went back over that whole thing with very thinned down white leaving the worn stuff showing through a bit.  The overall effect doesn't show to well in the photos and is more discernible to the naked eye.

 Next will be to mask for the yellow bits and try the same thing with that color.
