Doug,

Rall is my favorite German Ace. Seemed like a really nice guy.

Great job on both.

Thanks Steve... Yeah, everything I've ever read or watched about him says the same thing as you did, that he was an all around great guy. Two things that stand out in my memory from researching The Great Man was that he said that he didn't really "hate" his opponents, he was just doing his job to the best of his ability, and the second was in a briefing once, one of the "old hares" was talking with a new young pilot, when he shushed him. The younger pilot looked around and puzzled, asked what? The older said... he is coming... Who? asked the younger, Hauptmann Rall said the older. Again the young man asked, How do you know?..., The old hare said, Listen... cant you hear his brass balls clanging together when he walks? I wish I could afford to buy his book, but for now its WAY out of my price range.

Take care ...

Doug

Really nice builds there Doug.

You should speak to Eagle90. he once meet Rall. Well, when I say meet, Rall once gave a talk to his unit when eagle was based in Germany.

Thanks Bish. I thinking I will go with the Condor Legion then.  I am just getting into aircraft.  I was heavy into armor.  There I can figure from pictures and know what is right.

Aircraft are a whole new adventure for me.

Trying to work out colours from those B&W pics can be annoying. I have the same issue with German armour as well as aircraft. I have just been checking one of my books again and it seems that early 109's sent to Spain, 109B's, were painted RLM 63 pale grey. Then soon after, this was partially over sprayed with 62 giving a two colour scheme. By the time the C's arrived in 38 they seem to have gone to all over 62. So things seem to have changed rather fast.

Mustang, Count me in, I have the 1/32 Eduard E-3 profipac and will be adding a trumpy F-4 as well. I found an interesting scheme in a book I just purchased and will be doing that one. Will post pictures as the time draws near for which schemes I will be doing.

Hey Bish, Thanks!  Man... To have been able to have really spoken with The General... The only one I got to speak with once (by no means a disappointment or slight) Was Greg "Pappy" Boyinton. Being a young Marine in 1971 he came and visited our rifle company and spent a good deal of time with us just shooting the s**t. Real nice guy but unfortunately let the booze get him.

Another Hell of a nice guy the M/C I ride with has met on a number of occasions is Lee Ermey. The Gunny himself! When ever were at a function where he is he always makes a point to sit with us for awhile and again, shoot the s**t. Super nice guy! I think he likes the bikes, lol...and that were all Marines.

Bish, I'm really looking forward to that DB engine you have to build! That is going to be cool!

Take care...

Doug

I hope this works. There are a lot of great pics. Compared to them I'm a rank amateur. This is my first bf-109 and I'm really looking forward to building with real professionals. Someone mentioned earlier about molting. My first attempt also and I'm doing it with no airbrush. Oh what fun I will have

So far not much for references.  I was thinking of doing an all black night fighter scheme.

Try here:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bf-109-C-D-in-Polish-Campaign-1939-Kagero-Air-Battles-13-FREE-DECALS-/321568472220?pt=US_Nonfiction_Book&hash=item4adef97c9c

$16.00 aint too bad for that one. I picked one up.

Try one of these books as well if you don't already have one. They are awesome! (I managed to pick a HobbyCraft C up...........er.............picked up again!)

Hey Greg... Good to hear from ya!  By the by, Great looking work thus far on your STUKA.  Yeah the last time we saw the Gunny was on a club ride we did, to the Jim Beam Distillery where he was appearing for them. Hes pretty cool, we were at a long table having a bite, and having got together with him in the past, he came by and sat down with us to eat and to chat for awhile. We were having a good time when a reporter (paper I think) came up and started to interrupt and ask him questions, He looked up and in true "Gunny" fashion said... Look you @#*%^ I'm talking with some fellow Marines, You'll get your turn when I'm done here! The place erupted in laughter and a red faced reporter backed off till it was his turn. I really doubt he would recognize us individually but who knows...LOL...

Take care my friend and I hope your doing a build here too! Would love to see a Greg 109 project.

That is a super-cool story, Doug! I love it.

I stay quiet during between GB announcement and launch, mostly cuz I don't know much about what everyone is talking about. :)  I do read and learn, though. But I'm in this GB too, and in very good company! Will be my first 109 and my first Zvezda too.

Thanks Thomas, it's nice to be here. Looks like we have a great group lined up so far for sure!

I think it's Joe and Clemens and their magnetic personalities. Resistance in futile and all that. :)

Well I have built one or two 109's but not very well and a long time ago.

Hasegawa 1/48 E

And an older Revell version that I have no clue what the actual variant was.  I did not finish this one.  It ended up in a box somewhere, now in many, many pieces.

And that is the extent of my 109 building.  I have done a few other German birds.  But you can count them on one hand.

Neither do I but I manage just fine by pretending I know somethingCool. Good luck on your first Zvezda kit too. I think you'll find it complicated but easy all at the same time, if its anything like the La-5 I built.

Hey Greg, I got the chance to take a closer look at that Zvezda 109 when I visited my LHS a while ago and it looks like a great little kit. The only thing that kept me from buying it was that shiny new Eduard Royal Class. The Friedrichs are nice, but my favorite 109 series are the Gustavs Big Smile

Do you guys have any recommendations for some reference material? I ain't got a whole lot of stuff around here on the 109s. I'm particularly interested in the G-series....

I like Kagero books. Their 'topcolors' series and some of the other publications even have decals. I just found this...If you go to their 'downloads' section, there's even a free download with extensive review of some 109 kits. It's the bottom one on that page. Nice! Yes

The kagero Monographs books are nice if you can get them. I got the 109F book for my build and its going to come in rather handy. There is also the Schiffer profile series which I like. No's 2 and 10 both cover the 109G.

I have a lot, but probably the most bang for the buck is the Squadron 109G6 Walk Around.  Lynn Ritger's two-part series is also highly recommended and covers A-K.

Also, for anyone interested in improving their modeling in general, and 109's in particular, I would recommend Floyd Werner's DVD, Building the Bf109G-6 from Master Class Model Building Videos. Best purchase I have ever made in modeling. Totally transformed my modeling.

Joe, don't know if it is still available. I just checked Floyd's eBay store and didn't see it. If you can't find it let me know and I will send you mine.
