Thanks Bruce and Jack. I appreciate the warm welcome.

Hi John. By God it's been awhile since I've crossed your path and it's good to see you around. Sweet finish on your Gustav. She is certainly a beaut. Excellent work. Is that the pic you like me to use on the completion page?

Welcome aboard., JR! I guess that makes you our new Geshwaderkommodore! John, sweet bird! I'm confident I can pull off a completion by the end of the year, so my tally will be four for this GB -- it would have been five but I never got the replacement canopy parts for that G-2 I started yonks ago. :-( Cheers, M/TB379

Main colours applied to to Airfix's 72nd Emil.  This one was put away for a spell because of primer problems.  It never fully cured, and was causing the paint to shift and bunch up where I was holding it by the fuselage.  Couldn't sand the blemshes at that time because it was just a gooey mess, and would just spread around.

As one can guess, markings will be with the Adamson cartoon of 8./Jg26, numbered black 9.  I'm not sure of the yellow markings, as most illustrations if not all, have the elevator markings covering much more area.

Will have to play the artistic license card, and make an assumption that since the rudder has a small portion painted yellow, the wing and tail tips were kept small as well, if only for a brief period.

regards,

Jack

Yes you can use that one, it's the best one I have for the time being.

I'm cutting it close. But they are starting to look like 109's now. First time using precut masks. Why did it take me so long I'm in heaven

tempestjohnny, both those look good.  Have to agree, precut canopy masks do save a lot of time.

Used a vinyl set on my build, but maybe because of the small scale I'm working in, had to replace the top most one at the rear.  The sides had to curve down a bit, but would not stick.

Up to this point have decals all on, another coat of future, Florys wash and wiped, satin finish, some weathering powders followed with another satin finish.

Next up, attach the fiddly bits and a final once over for any further weathering and touch ups.

regards,

Jack

TJ and Jack -- looking very good there!!!

Okay, some progress happening on Black 8. It appears I didn't get a shot of her in the 78, sorry about that. She's now masked and the 79a is on, here she is with soft masks still attached:

The preshading shows through nicely, though more of the effect will be lost as the 80 goes on and inevitably 78 and 79 are reapplied to touch up overspray among the splotches.

I also got the red and white spinner done today, unmasked and satincoated. If the masks pull up paint, as they may do, I've been having a lot of trouble in that regard in the last two years, I'll prep some decal material with 02 and 79 and try to pull a fix out of the hat...

All being well, the 80 is part of tomorrow's targets, and the AB will need cleaning before I attempt the fine stuff.

Cheers, M/TB379

Wow! Great stuff coming out of you all going into the finish line.

Jack and TJ, Love the fact that you all are working in 1/72. Nice work indeed.

Thunderbolt, Which kit is that that you are working on? Regardless, you have done some choice work so far.

Joe, it's Tamiya #63, the first time I've built this one, it's a shake'n'bake, more or less! I was hoping to get to the green dapple today but I had issues with another project and it got put back to tomorrow... Masking is away all but for the wing roots which need to remain hard for the third colour. Cheers, M/TB379

Jack, TJ and TB, those are most certainly looking sharp. Makes me want to build another. Perhaps we will have another GB in 16. Looking forward to the reveal.

Thank you Joe, Brandon,  and TJ.

Good to see another Desert/Mediterranean based 109 as this GB, and the year, winds down.

My apologies TJ. I was reading your "On the bench" kits. Nonetheless, I'll forgive you for venturing away from the one true scale. Lol.

Likin' what I see here!  Really outstanding work by all!!  Kind of ashamed to show my G-10.  Which I would but my phone camera crapped out and I took a bunch of WIP shots with my little digital camera my wife so generously bought me for just that purpose.  Somehow the discs and cord went AWOL and I have wasted the last few days trying to find em. Finally found some downloadable software and got a neat little memory card reader from Best Buy.  Hopefully in the next few days...... .

Meantime I do have the kit primered and ready for paint.

Alright, this one's a wrap and just before Christmas too.  To recap, this is the Airfix new tool 109E-4 in 72nd scale.  Exhaust are a resin product from Quickboost, along with machined brass guns from Master.  No swastikas were provided on the decal sheet, so only stencils and wing crosses were used.  Remainder of the markings were from other sources, plus some home made decals for the JG 26 emblem (gothic 'S' on white shield).

Jack

That's one sweet looking bird there, Jack. Lots of detail packed into that 1/72nd, that's for sure.

Jack -- truly remarkable, this is the state of the 72nd scale art! You aced that kit and beat my finish hands down! M/TB379

Thanks Greg, Bruce, Thunderbolt, tempestjohnny, and Jay.

TB, it was your build that inspired me, seeing how well you did with yours, it gave me confidence it would be a good example of the Emil.

Jay,  very fine attention to detail and weathering, the latter is something I had difficultty finding examples of for the undersides.  Look forward to the show photos.

---------------------------

Well, I took some time with Corel Photopaint, got rid of the display stand, introduced a background picture, and even taught myself how to create prop blur - or at least something that looks passible.

Jack

I've spent the last three days working on my pick up. Finished it tonight in the dark. Did I mention today was 33 degrees. Had to do the work in my driveway because it doesn't fit in the garage. So new driveshaft carrier bearing and a new passenger side front hub....bearing went bye bye. Now hopefully tomorrow night I can get back to the important s stuff. John

Dang! I feel your pain John.  I have repaired to many vehicles when it is either freezing or raining/ snowing.

Hope your repairs go smoothly and quickly.

Thanks, JG! Freem, that's an ambitious project, it's great to see older kits brought up to standard this way. My E7 Black 8 is stalled at the painting stage, I got as far as the green mottle and the airbrush chucked a hissyfit, so I need to go back to the base coats and repaint, then try again. the preshading will be lost but that can't be helped. I've been working on three back to back, a 262 for a GB that finished two months ago, and a Brummbar, naturally the armour is the one nearest done as we leave the year... My total will be down by one from last year even supposing I count finishing these which will certainly dribble on a week or so into 2016... I'll post pics of the E7 as she goes, even though the GB is officially over... M/TB379

Might get this one in under the wire. Getting the fiddly bits done. All that's left is the shoulder belts and the canopy tether.

Jack and Jay - really great work! Love seeing those come together.

Freem - Nice job taking on that kit. I'm looking forward to seeing it progress. I remember starting to build that as a kid, but I must not have finished it, as I have some of the parts in the spares box and no idea where the rest of it is.

So, uh... we doing a 2016 build, too? I ordered a 1/32 G-6 and have Hungarian markings...

Or are we all 109ed out? :)
