Greentracker98, I think that first one of whole plane and pilot is the best one. Thanks!

Hi guys!

Gee, eight months since my last post! I have had bit busy with my work. My plan was to finnish Fokker during Christmas when I was off work. But that turned to work my *** off. We have four premiers in a row in week and half time. So...

But anyway. Now it´s ready.

Today, 6.1., is 76th anniversary when Sarvanto nailed six bombers in four minutes.

After taking a break for the Weekend Madness GB I was able to make some progress on the Mustang.
This is what I have so far after joining the fuse half’s. I found that most of the detailing I did to the engine is hidden. Oh well, at least I know they’re there.
I am missing one part though, V11. It is part of the lower bracing under the engine intake air scoop. I was painting it last night, holding it with tweezers. I looked up as my wife asked me something and PING! The part goes flying and I heard it hit something to my right. After an exhaustive search I couldn't find it. I still have plenty of time to find it. The way the diorama is laid out, I can install it last if needed.

Yeah, you know, where the pilot works. Don't worry, I had to ask the same question a few months back as well as "IP" for instrument panel. I didn't have a clue.

Ken,

I finally completed the Baron's Dr-1. The kit was what you would expect from an old Revell mold, with a little PE added.

I will be starting a Tamiya  1/32 Mustang as Moodbeam Mc Swine instead of the Hasegawa kit soon.

I see Spruebros has some Dragon kits in the Baron and others in the Aces line. I wonder how good those are, mostly because they are on SALE !!!

Hey BrandonK - regarding the Eduard 1/48 Dr.I - I have one (weekend edition) and it looks fantastic on the sprues. I haven't built it yet, but the test fitting of the fuselage and a few other components looks really, really good. I'm glad I picked it up.

Well, I am calling this one completed. This is the Tamiya 1/48 kit with the Eduard color PE cockpit set. I removed the kit guns and replaced them with brass tubing from Albion Alloys, drilled out the holes in the canopy slide brace, drilled out the exhaust and did everything else pretty much OOB. The decals for Petie 2nd, flown by Col. John Meyer, are by Eagle Strike (printed by Cartograf and WAY nicer than the kit markings for the same plane). This is his mount from 1944. I believe he was on Petie 3rd by the time of Operation Bodenplatte, when he got airborne during the German attack on the field and managed to blast a 190 to pieces before he even had time to raise his landing gear.

This one is finished in Alclad, mostly. I primed it with Aqua Gloss, then shot Duraluminum on the wings, gear legs, and rudder. Next came another coat of aqua gloss followed by airframe aluminum on the fuselage, shock absorbers and gun bay covers. I sealed that with Aqua Gloss and then shot Magnesium on the panels behind the exhaust ports and Polished Aluminum on the panel behind the canopy and a couple others to break up the monochromatic feel. The blue nose is Humbrol French Blue gloss enamel, and it was actually sprayed on and masked before I started playing with the Alclad. The rest is covered in Tamiya acrylics. Gun and exhaust streaking was done with a Tamiya weathering kit (the one that looks like a makeup pack). I wanted a very subtle panel line wsh, so I opted for Flory Grime, which is brownish. It sank into the wheel treads nicely, and some ground up pastel chalk did the rest.

I kept this one mostly clean since it was a late-war squadron leader's plane. I left the drop tanks off because I wanted it to have that "just returned from a mission" look.

I will be painting Col. Meyer this weekend, and will get a shot of him on his plane.

But I am rambling, and you all just want to see the pics anyway:

A quick tip on this kit: If you are like me, you break off things like radio masts and pitot tubes, Well, you can actually install this kit's radio mast at the end without any mess by applying glue to the bottom of it from inside - just reach up through the rear wheel doors with a needle applicator.

All comments, critiques and questions welcomed!

I think I got it. Here is the Dr-1 in its paint. I still need to finish the guns and a few other tough ups such as the skids on the wing tips ETC.

I will probably put this aside for a day or two while I try to finish two ther builds.

I see Eduard has one of these in all red. I wonder how good of a kit it is. Anyone build the or any, Eduard bi/tri-planes?

No but I saw the kit in FSM's video, looks pretty good. I'd like on to put in the stash someday.

Steve, it looks great. I love the early paint scheme. Much more interesting than the more famous all red look. Very nice.

Here’s where I am after an evening of painting. The August 1917 Jasta 11 colors, just before Richthofen went all red in September.

BD, awesome -D. Makes me want to build a -D blue nose now. Perhaps the another Heller Bust, but in a -D, his second 51. Hmm...you've motivated me.

A quick update on me 1/48 Tamiya P-51D:

I got the legs on, and I got decals on the prop. As it sits right now, it just needs a few things - mounting the canopy, painting the guns, mounting the landing light, mounting the antenna and pitot tube, painting the exhaust pipes, painting streaks for the exhaust, painting the streak for the oil overflow, streaking around the fuel caps, chiping on the prop and probably some gunsmoke stains. Still seems like a lot, actually.

So that's it as it sits now. And Col. Meyer needs to get into the paint shop next.

Yeah I have to echo BrandonK's comments. I'll be interested to see how you tackle this, as I've got a 1/48 Eduard version, and I have no idea how to paint it.
