Gamera

Hope it works for you Bish. I'll admit I've only tried it on the yellow ID leading edge stripes on RAF and Japanese fighters. It might not look as good on a larger surface.

Well, its worth a try isn't it. I have a few allied aircrfat that will be done in German markings with yellow undersides. So i will keep that idea in mind for then.

Yeah, of course you can always paint over it if you don't like it.

To clarify though I don't use straight orange. I paint the stripes then add a few drops of red to the straight yellow still in my airbrush colour cup, mix it well, and hit the panel lines. Then I flush that out and mist a little thinned straight yellow over the whole thing to blend everything in. You might of course have to modify this for the entire underbelly.

I've tried using tan or brown paint added to the yellow and personally I like the brighter look of the orange-yellow better than the more dingy look the tan or brown gives it.

Thanks Gamera,

the use of the orange sounds interesting. I'm not sure I will use it here, but definitely one to practice on a past model.

I am using Gunze acrylics thinned with Tamiya acrylic thinner. It was over 30 degrees Celsius (86 F) on the day I sprayed the second time.

That is indeed a bugger that your first attempts did not turn out for you. Yet, I'm sure that you will nail it.

Gamera, That's some sweet advice you have there. That wiil go in the mental slide show.

So the yellow is done, and it is very yellow, but I suppose that was the point...

So onto the job I had been putting off for age because it stressed me so much and I had no spare; teh vac formed canopy.

Read up a few articles, saw what others had done in GBs, got a new No.11 blade and off we go. Cut in gently a number of times, until the knife suddenly falls through. Before everything is cut free, do the masking.

Next cut the windscreen out. trim and clean up. Mount it with PVA and try to blend in the front edge using water on a cotton bud. looks okay. Put on a coat of primer. No it's not okay, too rough and too much water has broken the bond in a couple of spots. Reglue, clean up. This time use Tamiya putty, sand off, looks good, more primer. No good, but close, a bit of Mr Surfacer, sand off, cross fingers, prime again. Should have crossed my fingers earlier, as it is good this time.

Now ready for colour coats on the top...

Great work there LA. The yellow has come out very well, and nice job on the canopy. I had not thoguht about masking before cutting it out. Will have to remember that one.

She looks very good LA!

And yeah, good idea on the canopy. I'd not thought to mask it before cutting it out before.

The yellow and the canopy are looking very good Lost. I would certainly consider those big hurdles overcome. I feel the same way about cutting out vacuform canopies. I've done a couple in my time and I'm always looking for better techniques for cutting them out. Thank you for your approach. Well done.

Thanks for the kind words everyone,

It is continuing on at a slow rate, but there are some colours going down...

The DSG has gone on:

And then two hours of masking got me to this point...

And next is the dark green, so stay tuned.

That is looking really good with some paint on. That's also an impressive looking masking job you've done there. Always good to see you're progress.

Wish I could report some significant progress on the Corsair. Unfortunately, other obligations and priorites have significantly diminished my bench opportunities. Like so many of us, it's just life things. I'll get to it when I can, that's for certain.

Joe, sorry to hear it will be a while before we see the corsair finished - a beautiful plane.

Now it looks like something - all the masking is off! Think I need to do some more work on the undercarriage though.

By the way gentlemen, Thanks for the encouragement. I'll be back at it soon enough. Spring is simply a busy time for home and yard projects. And, just enjoying the outdoors.

Hi guys!

Nice to see, that people are still building these kits to get them ready Yes

I hauled my Ta-154 this weekend to our biggest yearly hobby fair (=to get free tickets Zip it! ) Today when I went there to get it back I was bit stunned:

Looks like, that every time I build something for "joke" I get some prize and when trying for real get nothing Confused

Thanks for watching!

So with the camo done, markings went on:

and these are the remaining pieces lined up ready to go on:

For weathering, since it is a prototype at an airshow I have gone for minimal effect, hope you like it:
