Build roster is updated with your Panzer, Tony.

I remember having some of the Airfix kits you mentioned, way back in Jr. High.  Some of them came with bases and figures.  I think the bases were vacume formed.

They were fun to play with after building.

Glad to have this addition to the GB.  Thank you!

Thanks CMK,  we played with them too.

One of the things I'm interested in, and the reason I'm building this kit is the history of scale models.

This kit was originally released by Matchbox in 1976. I remember getting it with this box art.

In 1979, it got this reworked box art

[/url]

After the demise of Matchbox, Revell picked up a few molds, including this one. The release that I'm building was released in 2008.

Anyways, enough of the history lesson, these things go together pretty quickly.

The only extra work I've done so far is to fill in the back of the rear building, as the wall was hollow. I'm thinking I might add some more rubble to the base though, and perhaps some stowage to the tank if I can make it myself.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

For the most part my panzer II is pretty much together, waiting for paint. Most of it must have been together when I first said I would build it. Do people still use photobucket for image hosting or something else?

Even little tread tracks in the base, Tony!  That's pretty innovative.  Nice work!

psycho:  I've been using this since the photobucket travesty:  https://postimages.org/

No cost, works well, and uploads pretty quickly.  No problems so far.

I gave the Panzer II a coat of primer. Since then I've also given it a coat of grey. Both are Tamiya acrylics. I'll let this dry today. I've got one of those Vallejo paint sets for DAK vehicles, so it will eventually be sand coloured.

Cheers

Thanks for the kind words guys. Check, yes it has been a change for me to put a crew on board. In fact, that’s the first pilot I have put in in ages.
Scott, your Prince is coming along well, a lot of good work to get to that stage. Know what you mean about the fingers and the railings…
Tony, that’s a blast from the past there! Didn’t have that one, but did do the Firefly, Long Tom, Chafee and Panther as a kid. Loved them having the little diorama bases which I did an awful job on back in the day… Looks like it is coming together nicely, and looking forward to what you do with the base

So the Defiant is complete! I have got the very war weary look I was after, not sure about the realism, but happy with it none the less. The Airfix kit was great to build up and had nice detail.

Thanks for running the GB Check, it has been good fun and I ill be back in four GBs time for 1943, got a few subjects to chose from...

Lost, the Defiant looks fantastic. Yes

I think I mentioned it before, but as you say war weary but the night black paint also was not very durable and was a temporary paint - all of which you have portrayed quite admirably.

Jack

Piers:

Your Defiant turned out really well; I think you achieved very realistically the worn-and-weary look you set out to do.  Very impressive.

Do you have a preference for the finished photo?

Thanks for being part of this GB.  I look forward to seeing your work in '43!

Great work on theDefiant Piers, I think the weathering looks effective. It's quite a difficult one to pull off.

Progress photo of my Revell 1/76 Panzer II. The tank itself is almost done, I'll need to paint details on the exhaust and weapons then give it a flat coat. With the base, I've filled in the back side of the wall, and added some additional debris (with Milliput) to the front and rear of it. I'll add a bit more, then start painting it. THe two Afrika Korps figures are primed, haven't really started on them yet. I'm enjoying this build, I really should do more armor.

Cheers

Thanks CMK. Here's a couple of photos of te base. I've had some trouble with my photography/lightning here, the ground has come out darker than it really is. I've added some extra debris for realism, and filled out the wall that was one sided, but other than that it's true to the base that Matchbox originally gave us.

Cheers

Looks good, Tony.  Has that dry and arid desert appearance.

Excellent, Tony!  That certainly turned out well.  Nice sense of action to it.

Which photo do you like for the finish build?

Thanks for being part of the GB.  Looking forward to seeing more of your work in the future!

taxtp: 1:76 scale...did I read that right?  That's one sweet little build and you knocked it out quickly!YesYes

Any chance you could add another photo with a penny dropped in the shot for scale?

Man, its been over a month and no progress. You see, I got a new cat and well, he got into the basement and ran his tail across the top of the PE dismasting it.

With so much going on, I havn't had the chance to get back to it.

Those cats!  Sorry to hear about the kitty disaster, because I know exactly what you experienced.  One of ours sank my USS New Orleans years ago, and I have to keep a constant vigil to protect current projects from their inquiries.  They carry off paint brushes; q-tips; pipettes; knock paint bottles off the table; and get their feet stuck on masking tape.  I suspect one of them of carrying off a pair of small scissors I use for decal-cutting.  Fortunately, they've never stuck their nose on a pool of superglue.  A cat is mayhem on four feet.

Still--they're cute, despite their destructive tendences.

An old modeling friend of mine used to say that cats and little kids were blessings for the modeler who liked to build but had limited space and didn't have a close attachement to his final creations.

I'm one of those types.
