Time to wrap this up. The final stage was adding canopy engine undercarrage and a few final touches and then getting it on its base.  I have seen the intake in a couple of colours and went for the NMF option.

Thanks Bish: Adding little touch's such as marker lights and painting the vent's improves the model.  Excellent job on your HE 162, the open engine detail is a nice touch.

Well just about have the Eagle wrapped up, putting on the final touches. Decals when down great, nice and thin cartograf decals. The light yellow with black lines on the wing tips where a bit tricky, they rap around the wings edge. I placed the decal on the top of the wing first, put Micro Sol on then Micro Set. Then later applying Micro Set to the part of the decal to wrap around, and let it set over night to soften. The next morning it was soft enough to wrap around, took another day to soften it up to conform to the wing's edge.

From this being my first modern aircraft in about ten years, I had forgotten about adding nose weight. After attaching the landing gear, it tipped back and sat on it's tail, so a tail sitter. I added two small metal nuts inside the air intake with hot glue and placed on the intake red covers. The AIM 9's and AIM 120's glued on pretty easy with CA glue, fuel tanks also. Ran into a problem with the canopy. It does not set flush with the main air frame in the closed position. So I'm going to prop it open. Hoping to have everything wrapped up later day.

Thanks BrandonK: I'm really happy at how the F-15 turned out. For time reason's I skipped the decals on the air to air missiles, now I regret it. After gluing the canopy then finding out it doesn't sit flush, I've removed the CA glue and some of the paint down to bare plastic. Using Tamiya XF-1 Flat Black I'm hand painting the color back on where the canopy would sit in the closed position. After the canopy all that's left is the ladder and this Eagle is finished.

My F-15C Eagle is finished, I'm really happy how it turned out. This is my first modern day aircraft that I've finished in about ten years. For what ever reason the canopy does not meat up flush with the fuselage in the closed position.  Thanks BrandonK for hosting this Modern Day group build.

Thanks guys.  I would recommend this kit, very good fit, only a small amount of putty is needed.  I would like to enter in my second aircraft for this group build, Academy 1/48 F-14A “VF-111 Sundowners”. Picked it up at my local hobby shop this week, had a look inside, the kit is loaded with parts. Might start it after I get my B-52D finished.

Thanks Gamera, Johnny & Brandon.  This will be my second F-14 Tomcat, built the Monogram one fifteen years ago. 

To give a quick run down on the two problems I ran into,

First is attaching the E1 to B16,

I first glued the center cone shapes together, then the two side parts over the air intakes.

Second is the nose did not fit perfect, after gluing on it needed some heavy sanding to get it flush with the main body.

I plan to start the F-14 after my Mil 24D Hind.

It's funny how the instructions say to assemble one way when we find out, usually too late, that another way works better.

Sorry I've been gone so long, had some personal things to take care off and I've finally gotten motivation to get back to the bench.  My preshading idea was to spray squiggles and dots of varying intensities inside the panels to replicate the touch-up corrosion control that would occur.  I have a few places that need some correcting, but I can handle most of it with a hand brush.  I just have a little bit that will need the airbrush to come back up to deal with a weird ghost line on the port side under the cockpit where the gull gray meets the white, and on the port side just above the horizontal stabilzer where my masking tape didn't get burnished down right.

Glad to see ya back at it. I'm looking forward to seeing this one in paint.
