Thought it'd be fun to give an update on the numbers - out of 17 completed builds:

Fw190 - 10

Bf109 - 7

Mark - that came out really nice! Really like the job you did on the decals. That style German cross can be very difficult to apply without silvering. Nicely done and thanks for taking part!

PJ - That Dora came out awesome! All the extra work you put into it really brought it all together. Thanks for showing how you went about everything, it adds a lot to the GB. Love the aerial wire details and the subtle streaking came out really good! Thanks for a great addition to the GB.

Mark, that looks very good, and would never had guessed the photo shop had you not mentioned it.  Hopefully the positive comments urge you on towards the finishing touches.

PJ, really nice work, and the various weathered areas are just tops my man.

Doug- Amazing dio. Reminds me of one I saw in the early issues of FSM or was it Shep's dio leaflet? Been too long to remember which one.

Toshi- Off to a good start.

Falcon- Very ingenious to use a mottling template. Looks very good.

Crown- A beauty in the making!

Mark- You killed it dude! That is one great looking FW. And by the by, you will love using EZ line.

My Dora is completed and in my display cabinet. Maybe later I will add a base for it but who knows.

Thoughts on the kit.........Very enjoyable to work on with great parts fit. Hasegawa provides the foundation for a Dora and you go from there. My only beef is that they should incorporate at least partial rivetting specially for the fuselage. The side stripes on the fuselage actually do not line up as one is higher than the other one (notice the chevron is a bit higher). A picture of the actual aircraft shows this detail.

The salt chipping effect

Weathering was done with washes and dot filters

Oil paint dots are wiped with a thinner damp wide brush in the direction of the air flow.

Just about all is removed but just a hint blended in to give tonal value to the paint leaving subtle streaks.

The pipes were carefully hollowed out and painted several Alclad shades till I got the desired effect then polished them with a rag.

The tip lights were painted Tamiya clear green and red

and inserted into the tip openings. They look like real lights so Hasegawa scored high points here.

Well, I'm calling this one complete.  There's still more weathering and other details I plan on adding, but my focus has already shifted to my next build so this is done... for now. 

(FULL DISCLOSURE:  The aerial in these photos was added in Photoshop.  I have some EZ-Line on order but didn't want to wait a week to post these pics.  I'll post a follow-up picture when it's "legit".)

Thoughts on this kit.  It fought me pretty hard, and a couple weeks ago I was very close to throwing it in the trash.  I'm glad I didn't, and I thank the folks on this forum for their encouraging words.  I'm very pleased with how it came out (even though the mis-alligned cowl still bothers me) and it's earned a place on my display table.

Nick, very nice weathering there. Coming along very nicely.

TJ - I love your Emil.  Great execution and a really interesting color scheme. 

Doug - That's a fantastic diorama.  If I was up against two guys with melee weapons (cane and pitchfork) and one guy with rifle, my hands would be in the air too!  hahaha...

John - The A-5 is looking great.  As for your question about the exhaust area, I shot flat black onto my A-9 but then came back over it with a little hull red and very dark gray.  I'm really not sure if it helped much, but to my eye it looks a little better, with some slight tonal variation.  I shot Tamiy XF-69 (Nato Black) to streak some exhaust stains along the fuselage.  Heavily thinned, about 10:2 ratio of thinner/paint.  I liked the result.

Crown - Love the weathering on your 109.  Especially the streaking on the underside.  Looks very natural.

Im done with the washes ,exhaust and gave the testers dull coat . Now the masking of the canopy !!

Ye, i get that at times and have to go back and clean up. Some mottling seems to have more of a feathered edge than others, so its handy to be able to use a mask for it.

thanks,  I just have to watch how close the stencile is to the surface and how much paint is coming out of the airbrush to get how much feathering I need.  I really did it cuz free handing with the AB I always seem to get that awful non-scale splatter.

I forgot to get a picture of the exhaust,  but what does everyone else do for the small rectangle around the exhaust?  the painting guide says flat black but to me that always looks bad. I'm going to try a dark gray then use black and some othe grays for the exhaust flow out of the stacks.  What do you guys think?

btw did you use chalk on the wheels or pigment ?

I saw after posting the pictures silvering on one of the tank decals yet barely visible to the naked eye. I like to take pictures as I go which magnifies any issues missed by the human eye. Another method is placing a small mirror to view from different angles.

Sometimes the silvering appears no matter how glossy the surface is but I usually kill it by taking a new #11 blade and lightly scoring the decal film then apply good old Solvaset to get it under the decal film which usually works. I did it to the one decal on the tank and the silvering was neutralized.

Been busy with house things bu got to attach the drop tank and added the metal fuel lines a few minutes back. I like how the NMF drop tanks looks on the painted plane. I weathered the main wheels and dirtied up the doors since they operated from grass fileds. Next will be a flat coat and dot filtering/weathering.
