Buddy, nice work on that kit. I've got one in the stash too, so your comments on the kit are pertinent.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Looking good there SD!

It's been awhile since I posted here, but the F-102 is finished. The Meng kit overall isn't a bad kit, however, some areas are overengineered and it's fiddly as heck. Had a bit of a scare as I was cleaning up one of the wing fences. The masking tape pulled up part of the clear coat. Fortunately, a couple of coats of clear and it's hardly noticeable. Here's the pics.

68GT, thanks for hosting this build. For the front page, I like the next to last pic best.  Keep up the good work guys.

I have finished the build:

And the cockpit:

Now on to priming, filling, masking, and painting.

Is there any way to get on the roster? I feel that I have not started yet as I am not on it.

Nice!

I almost got restarted yesterday but when I came home from work I cut the grass and that did me in.  Maybe today I will do some masking and painting on the Tomcat.

Thanks 68GT!

She went into the paint shop earlier this week and is now ADC Gray overall. The MM paint is pretty close, however being somewhat glossy I have hit or miss results on the model. Some areas are nice and smooth, others are kind of pebbly. Will have to revert to my car building roots and see if I can sand the offending areas smooth and then hit her with some gloss. I didn't take any pics of her before I masked, but here she is with a coat of Tamiya Semi Gloss black before I start with the metallics on the rear of the fuselage and the intakes.

Here is the rear of the fuselage. Paint is Model Master Stainless Steel. Detail on the petals is from the Eduard PE set.

Intakes should be done by tomorrow. Hopefully my decals from Fundekals will arrive tomorrow and she should be ready for decals Sunday.

Nice!

I'm a bit AWOL since I'm a Scout camp and reception is spotty.  Hope to get back into the swing of things when I get back.

Looking good SD!

Thanks 68GT.

Well, it's starting to look like an airplane now. Found a couple of seams that I filled after the pics were taken. Will be sanded and reprimed after I get home from work.

I didn't reach the goal of having her ready to paint by Monday, but she's starting to look like a plane.

The exhaust. Consists of four parts, painted with Mr. Color Steel, burnt metal and silver. First time I've used Mr. Color and I like it so far.

The exhaust installed.

Blanking plate for the intake. Made from some strip stock that was lounging around not doing anything.

The fuselage is together.

The wings are on. This was probably the most difficult part of the build so far. I had a step form underneath the rear left wingroot. I cut down the bulkhead that the exhaust attaches to, that didn't work. I scraped and sanded the rear of the wing, that helped a little. I installed the main gear bay. that helped with the alignment, but didn't help the fit. I kept messing with it until it snapped into place. I MEK'd the heck out of it once it was there.

The underside.

I did more work today, but no pics. The splitter plates are installed. The piece for the closed bay doors for the missile bay is in. The canopy is installed and masked. The canopy didn't sit flush with the spine when I installed it. The reason for this is it it designed to be displayed open, but a little judicious sanding took care of that. With the exception of the fit of the canopy, so far the fit of this kit has been pretty darn good. I had to use a little tape to minimize the gap at the wing root join, but so far little putty has been used. The nose in front of the cockpit will need some putty, and maybe once I get her primed, I'll find some other problem areas, but right now I'm impressed with this kit. More tomorrow.

I'm going to keep the GB open to the year mark at a minimum cause I have to finish the 6s.

Thank you !

I have completely "stalled out" on my P-61 ... ( apperently my wife think's getting the bathroom installed is more important. All the fixture's are currently piled up in MY workspace. )

I "should" be back on track by August..... ( finger's crossed...)

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Hey Lewbud, my Martlet's cockpit doesn't look too awesome, but it also has a small canopy, so YesYes

Small canopies are there to give us a break when we need it Stick out tongue

Yours is looking much better than mine.

68GT, thanks for the kind words. Looking forward to more of your Tomkitty.

Tony, your 163 looks great!

Goldhammer, looking forward to seeing your Eagle.

BrynnWryttur, your wish is my command.

The bang seat box stock.

The bang seat with PE. Crappy phone pic follows.

The pretty much completed cockpit. It's not great, but it will look appropriately busy throught the tiny canopy. Still have to paint the radar scope black, may try and fix that armrest. I think there is a PE piece that goes behind the bang seat, will check when I get home.

More soon. The goal is to have the fuselage closed and ready for paint Monday.

That instrument panel looks great, it'd be a shame if it wasn't very visible. Can't wait to see what the cockpit looks like when it's finished!

Nice work!  I just hope you cand see it when the fuselage is closed up.  I know with the 106s you cant see much even in 1/48.

Got some work done on the pit today. First pic is the painted tub with Eduard's PE attached. Sorry for the crappy phone pic. I'll have to go back in there and touch up the footpads with some aircraft interior black.

The panel. Eduard's panel looks great, but it's the wrong color. The pit is supposed to be Dark Gull Gray, but the instructions call for Aircraft Gray (which is what the exterior is to be painted with). I'm not going to sweat it because it won't be seen once the canopy is in place. Once again, sorry for the crappy phone pic.

Also painted the inside of the fuselage halves where the pit goes, but that's boring and not pic worthy. More soon.

It should be future President George W. Bush and it is a nice kit. It does have some problems, but builds up nicely. How it will fare in my hands remains to be seen.

It's the second week in June and the Nationals are two months away so I figured I better get started on my F-102 for our club's group project (it wouldn't look good for me to not have a build ready since I'm leading the darn thing). The kit is Meng's 1/72 F-102 Case X flown by future President George H.W. Bush.  Starting with the wings.

The wings consist of a port and starboard upper, with a one piece lower wing. The missile bay is also installed at this time. Time for the wingtips and ailerons.

Because the wing tips are different between the Case X and Case XX wings, Meng has molded them as separate parts. Don't know why the ailerons are separate, but they are.  Will have to wait until I get home tonight to install them. Fit so far is good, but I hear there are pitfalls ahead. Lawn darts forever!

Got a move coming soon, in the next month or so, but this one is being built at work so won't affect it .....much

Finally got a chance to get back on her.  Got the dark gray shot today, and had already blown up the paint scheme in the directions to full size.  Will be cutting frisket over the next day or so and getting the light gray shot.  Will put up pics of the dark gray along with the final scheme when I get it painted, hopefully this week.  Then comes the tedious decaling.....

If you decide to  close out the GB, no biggie.  Been dragging my feet, and will fully understand.
