Hello, I'd like to join, with approval. The build will be a 1/72 Airfix Boulton Paul Defiant. I think I'll do the night version, the shark mouth is pretty cool!
Well, finished the Boulton Paul. In short, it's a very nice kit, goes together nicely.
The cockpit went together well, adequate detail for 1/72. I used Model Master acrylics and sprayed a black base then RAF interior green. A little highlighting with a silver pencil to bring out the detail.
I'm terrible about taking pictures! The build went so fast I forgot to take them. Everything went together fine, very minimal seam work.
The kit gives two options for the "turtle deck(?)" behind the turret. I wanted to use the flat one, as portrayed in the reference photos I was using, but it was much too small. So small it would have fell into the fuselage. So I used the more rounded version.
The other strange thing I found was the difference in size between the pilot and gunner. The pilot is much smaller! A father-son team perhaps? No big deal, you can hardly see the gunner in the turret.
And the finished product. I used Tamiya Sea Blue (XF-17) for the paint. It's very dark, but has a hint of blue. The paint goes on a little too flat, but a gentle burnishing with a paper towel brought out the finish I wanted. Minimal weathering, just a touch here and there with a 2B pencil and some pastel chalk. Decals were good, a little thick, but I didn't have any problems. All in all, a really nice kit. I might have to do another in camo scheme.
