Thanks for the kind words. I really liked doing the GB's of WWII. Even though I came late to the Party, I did manage 8 builds over the 6 different sets of years.

Yes, I would say that is sound advice.

Now onto the Eastern front where this Stuka is prepped for another sortie against the Red Army...

This one's been fun to build. I only wish I could have gotten all of mine completed by the end of the year. So there you have it.

I don't have any hard and fast rules for priming. It depends on the color of the base plastic as it relates to the color of the model. Generally I don't prime unless I need a uniform light (white or grey) base. And then I will use just about anything as a primer. 

Alot of times I have used Model Master enamals, Aircraft grey, Light Ghost grey, Light gull grey for example as primers. Other times I've used Tamiya grey or white primer in the rattle can and still other times I'll use Rustoleum primer from Walmart. Each has their pluses and minuses. I hope this helps.

Back to the Stuka, I've applied the decals and in general, went down well, with a few fracturing but they all with the lettering (ie "C" or "T" or "K"), none with the insignias or crosses.

Here are the removable portions of the canopy masked and painted here...

I have some more work on the attached canopy parts, then some final assembly and weathering, then she'll be good to go.

These spray really well. I've had no problems applying color over color or primer. I have had some problems with adhesion when removing masks when the paint was sprayed on bare (ie unprimed) plastic. See this picture...

See how the paint lifted off bare plastic, when I removed the mask. But again it was bare plastic. no such issue when painted over another color or primer.

So if they're lacquer based, do they have adhesion as good as Model Master?  I've been hesitant about acrylics, since they don't seem to stick as well as enamels--but if these do, and can withstand masking, I might give them a try.

Those paints are acrylic?

 

These paints are lacquer based and I thin them with lacquer thinner just like model master. From my understanding these are acrylic lacquers if that makes any sense. I haven't tried mixing these with either water based acrylics or enamel paints as I don't believe they are compatible (although I could be wrong).

Well I couldn't make the deadline with my Stuka, but am trundling along nonetheless..

Here she is ready for paint...

Under side painted RLM 65 now ready for the cowl color, fuselage band and underwing stripes in yellow...

Yellow applied..

ready for the upper surfaces in the standard splinter scheme of RLM 70/71...

RLM 71 applied...

And after masking and spraying the RLM 70. Now spraying the Future gloss...

Should be applying decals tomorrow. Next I'll show some work on the canopy glass.

Photo is up, Ed.  I picked the one I thought showed off best all that winter-white camouflage splotching.  Really a fine job!

I thinks it's spectacular, Ed!  What a great job you did with the camouflage.  Certainly not the usual looking Stuka.

So I think the Fujimi Ju87 D-5 is done. I say that hesitantly because I don't know how I feel about the crosses on the fuselage and upper wings. I'm just not sure if that is the style used in this time period.

Excellent work, Theuns.  It is very nicely accomplished.  You achieved a good paint finish for it.  Subtle but impressive weathering.  

Do you have a preference for the finish photo?

Calling thi done. I didnt go stupid with the weathring, some mud splatter on bottom and rust here and there on the top sides.
