Bomber GB ' 18 - '19

Hi all,

I started the Nell.

The kit’s interior is typical of Hasegawa’s other 1/72 offerings. There isn’t a lot of detail and because of the large greenhouses, it would benefit from some AM or scratchbuilt enhancements. I going to build OOB but will add some interest such as belts and plumbing. The instructions take some time to figure out, such as the option to show the build with or without the gun in the turret and why one should remove the tabs on the bulkheads because of it. However, after some study it becomes clear. What isn’t clear is where to place part E8 on the left fuselage wall. There doesn’t seem to be any guide of any kind. I went with my best guess as don't think it's really going to matter once it's closed up.

The kit looks to build up quickly once the interior is complete.

Well, I made it through my trip to my local shops unscathed as the new tool Airfix B-25 has just been released in it homeland, not on this side of the pond. Theuns please put me down for Fujimi's 1/72 A-6A, markings tbd.

 

Seems to be a good seller as well. Hannants has it on there top selling list with 2 other new Airfix kits.

MM, the KG 26 He 111's could carry bombs, its just that in the med their main role was as torpedo bombers. That wil look nice in the desert scheme. Interesting that its in the markings of StG 3.

 

It should lend itself to some interesting weathering too!

That’s exactly what I was thinking too!   And it gives me an excuse to buy another one someday to buid the torpedo version. 

That all sand scheme actually lends itself well to playing around with shading and modulation to simulate a faded paint :-)

Well, after studying the instructions, I realized I needed to change my selection because it only dropped torpedoes!  So, I’m switching to the SKG 6 option with true bombs. 

I still have my very old sony cyper shot camer, the flash doesnt work anymore but it keeps on trucking....the "name brand" nikon is a piece of manure :-(

In the meantime I use the camera in my cellphone, works well enough for now

just use a bigger hammer to get that memory stick in ;-)

I also recently had my Nikon camer stop working, only to be told nicon do not do repairs and just buy a new one.....I will have to but never a nikon again!

LOL Yea I just started looking at new cameras a little while ago. mine is a Sony 4.1 megapixels. At least 14 years old. always taken great pictures and never had anything go wrong with it. I'm always dropping it etc not on purpose. One tough little camera. If I did take a hammer to it, i think it would take it and keep on ticking, os they say.  :-) Almost .......

I'm here everyone, In case you were wondering. I bought a memory stick for my camera. Brought it home opened it and it was too big to fit in the camera. I always used a USB cable for it before, but now, I can't find it. Any way after some research, I find out i need a Memory Stick Pro, and an Adapter

So.... I.m working on it.

A mate of mine was a fire drop pilot some years ago, here in SA we do not have water boddies to scoop up from so they flew helos and Air Tractors.

He told me you need to check the collomb forward with all your strength when droping as the sudden loss of about IIRC 2500  lbs made the plane pich up extremely hard. Another guy I knew died like this when apon pulling up from a confined space drop the outer wingtip failed under the repeated load and foiled the aileron causing the crach....dangerous game this :-(

Nailed the drop to perfection, and the grader got a well deserved bath....

Always loved seeing them swoop in and make the drop, still do.

I remember about 20 years ago there was a B-17 serving the same function at an airport in SW Washington, at Chehalis, saw it on the ramp on my way north.....always wished I'd turned around and got pics.  On the way back it was gone, out on the job.

You got to wathc those dealers lewbid, crafty buggers they are. Sneaking up on you when you least expect it and before you know it you have a shiny new box in your hands and a lighter wallet

Well, I guess Al Yakkey was right.  That's why they don't make movies called Night Raid to Boise or Firefighters Strike at Dawn (gratuitous Always reference).  In my sleep deprived state (pulling a 12hr overnighter 2200-1000 CST), if my local dealer has the new Airfix B-25C/D I may be susceptible to suggestion. If I fall prey to his rather blatant "Hey, have you seen this yet?" tactic, it will be in Dutch markings. If not, a Fujimi A-6A will probably grace the flight deck. Whatever it is, it will be 1/72.

I am afraid a V-1 would not qualify as it is selff propelled, any freefall bomb be it "dumb" or guided it OK.

As for water bobber, that is a tricky one....

Just out of curiosity, would fire/water bombers be allowed? I'm in either way.

That's a good find Chad. I was going to start the Nell today but wanted to take a day break. I did study the instruction though 

I'll start it tomorrow.

Not sure about the V-1 for this one Nick, doesn't really count as a bomber.

Look forward to seeing that one Chad. I have the P-2 kit so will be interested to see how it builds.

I CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE! I've looked at this bold beautiful red Airfix box long enough!  Its tantalizing box art has drawn me in with it's promise of soft grey plastic goodness!   Ok, enough drama.  Here’s my contribution to this exciting GB.  The kit is beautifully molded but the panel lines are a bit exaggerated.  I won’t be using the supplied crew but I love how Airfix faithfully includes them in every kit! So, I'll be making the strikingly handsome torpedo wielding bird from 6./KG 26.  Looking forward to seeing everyones builds!

hey a got one a V1 flying bomb. 1/48 tamiya came in my gloster meteor kit how about it? well I guess I will find it a home. I would call it a missile or a guided bomb?

 

Hey Crown...LOL!  Yeah, there is a bit of plastic in there huh?  I was checking my paint for this build last night..might have to get some more "desert pink".  .  I too think it will take a bit more paint then I'm used to using.  LOL!

Those inserts alone are almost worth getting the kit. I still want to get both the 24 and 17 again one of these days. The grandsons would love them in their rooms.

 

I have the inserts from the 17, 24, and C-47 (my personal favorite). 

You can pick these kits up at model shows fairly cheap.  Most of mine were $10-$20.  One or two I got for $5!!!!  They are impressive when finished for sure.

Does that one have Shep Paine's Poka Dot assembly ship booklet or is at in the 24J box, or do they even include it anymore?

 

This box did not have one in it.  Of course this is one of my Estate sale kits.  My J model Momo kit does have one in it.  Man I love those Paine inserts!  Now I do have another D model mono kit...still sealed!  I could tear into that one and see.

Of course my decal curse hits again.  LOL!  As I'm putting the original decals in my decal folder...I notice the new decals do not have the national insignia with them!  Sooooo, I researched it and found Sprue Brothers has a set from Yellow Wing Decals.  Me and my decal woahs.  LOL!

Anyway, here she is.  I've said it a lot, but I'm excited about doing one of the Mono monsters.  Been a while and I'm ready!!!
