But,. I should say my Dad and 3 of his brothers were USAAF, Thats why I've always  built ww2 American Airplanes Bombers at that Dad flew a B26   2Uncles in 17s and another in a 24

 

I have both kits now. The Stirling was an open box, but still sealed inside. and the B-35 was still shrink wrapped.

Does anyone know how strong the plastic Landing Gear is on the B35? I know where to get metal gear for it.

I built the AMT 1/72 Y/XB-35 this summer. I would highly recommend the metal landing gear. You will have to put a decent amount of weight in the nose (@ 3oz) to keep her balance. Otherwise she is a “tail” sitter or whatever you want to call it. You’ll also want to purchase a good amount of putty, you’re going to need it. 

I built mine with the counter rotating props and it was looking cool. As I was setting her to hang from the ceiling, something let go and she had the glide path of a rock and to say the least, she couldn‘t be salvaged. 

However, it was a great lesson for my boys on how to blow up a model airplane!

Thanks Steve, Aircraft are not suppose to fly like rocks, guess that doesn't apply to non powered models. Any chance of restoring it?

I've had problems with landing gear in the past before 1/48 scale PBY for one, so the more I thought about it, the I liked the idea. They'ye sitting right here in front of as I type this

I just caught a show on You tube called the Forgotten Bomber. the Blenheim. I had never heaerd of it before. Maybe I'll do one after this is over.

No don't put down for it! I have other builds to do. I'm doing a 32 scale P40 for a resin character figure of Wild Bill Kelso (John Belushi) from the movie 1941. The figure is way bigger of a scale than the plane, but if I place the right, it should work, beside, even if I could find a 1/8 scale P 40 where would I put it?

I just ordered the metal Landing gear for the Stirling as well. Things like that seem to break fairly easy on me. LOL

John, nice additions to those seats. Even in your hand this still looks a good sized aircraft for 144.

Thats not a bad size, and even those seats look pretty nice. My only 144 kit was an EduardStuka with zero cockpit detail, so its nice to see somthing like your doing.

I have never used BMF, however I must say if used correctly alclad gives fantastic realistic results, I really like using it :-)

I got the engine neccels on, fit is poor, sanding and filling to follow...

I was thinking of trying BMF for my B-25, but the quality of the kit is not the best. Would it be worth it to use the BMF instead of Alclad, or should I save it for a higher quality kit?

1/144 B-47 update.  Got some work done on the seats.

added ejection rails to the back of the seats.  have to add some hoses and belts still.

Now for the the IP and blast shield and canopy piston.

I made some good progress with glueing some of the major bits together, the wingtips oddly is to "fat" on the one side and to thin on the other. I also got the wings and tail together, the pannel lines here also do not line up well, but i will rescribe them.

It is becoming a rather large model now, I still have to decide on the final colours but I have a 1/48 109E, BF110 in BoB scheme, I recon this will add some flavour to that trio in the same colours.

Started on my little B-47 this weekend.  I thinned out the edges of the cockpit so they are not like a foot think in scale terms,  painted the inside walls, now I have to work on the ejection seats, they are pretty plain so I need to add rails and belts and maybe some hoses as well and add the canopy lift piston for the canopy.

Hey everyone!  Great work so far.  Really liking this GB!  I might have to do more then one for this one. 

So, I have run into all kinds of stuff with this build, and I have hardly started!  LOL!  Decals..I figured out I don't have the correct national insignia and the Snow White set doesn't come with them.  So I need to order those.  Having to fabricate some landing gear doors.  I wanted to do this one in flight and it doesn't come with the small panels when the gear is up.  So, I bought a couple of sheets of styrene to do that.  I will conquer and overcome all of these set backs.  She will be a beauty when she's finished.

So, I used almost a half a bottle of Testors zinc chromate spraying the interior...yeah, I know, I did the wheel wells and you won't even see them.  I was in the zinc chromate painting zone.  LOL!  So here are a few pics of the start of the build.  I got the wings together.  Painted the interior.  And started on the waist gunners area.

Okay I bought a new camera, its a Canon PowerShot G5 5.0MP. It's not new (I can't afford a new one) this is on Ebay. It looks real nice; like it was taken good care of. All kinds of accessories with it too. Soo in a few days I should be able to post some pictures.

Coming on nicely there Theuns, like the look of those radios.

Cockpit detail is nice, I just added wire harnasses.

I think the detail will not be as sharp under the glass so I used decals for seatbelts. 

Pannel lines on the fuselage do not match up, I had to sand them down and re-scribe.

1/48 Monogram B-25J

I have not built a Pro modler kit before and sofar I am not very impressed with it. The pannel lines do not line up well, the thickness of the moldings are strangely not the same on the different fuselage halves, also no locator pins on some parts, other have them.....

Not a huge issue ,more iritating than anything else. Sofar I have the basic cockpit together and the rear fuselage I have managed to wrangle together aswell.

Well I am being held back at work while repairs made to the Stearman's aileron so I am at home ....nice for the first day but after a few days of not working, and not being paid it becomes old fast!

So I started working on the 88. I decided to not go stupid on the internal detail, out of the box it is quite nice. I found some seatbelt decals in my sparesbox and used these instead of PE or making them, under the closed canopy I think they will be OK.

Nice start Steve. I know what you mean about Hase kits. For what they charge, would you think they would make more of an effort on the interiour.
