Hi everyone! You all have some nice builds going on and i was wondering if you would not mind having a Sci-Fi builder join your group. I do have a few planes in my stash and I was thinking about using Tamiya's Mitsubishi Isshikirikko type 11 or their Avro Lancaster Mk I/III both in 1/48th scale. It has been awhile since I have built something without ion engines or turbo lasers so 14 months should be just enough time to finish something with radial engines, props and machine guns.

There is some very nice builds happening here. I am thinking about breaking out a bomber and joining you all, if you don't mind having a Sci-Fi modeler hanging around. I do have a few bombers in my stash:

Tamiya 1/48 Mitsubishi Isshikirikko type 11
Tamiya 1/48 Avro Lancaster Mk I/III
Accurate Miniature 1/48 B25 C/D  Dirty Dora

Hasegawa 1/48 Ju 87b Desert Stuka

I am leaning towards the Mitsubishi or the Lanc. I guess go big or go home, right?

I didnt like the way the black/green was to dark and would alter the look of the model so I thinned it allot and sprayed on a few coats to give the effect of faded paint, I mist say if I compare it to pix of full size, you need to look really carefully to see the demarcation line, I am rather pleased with the result.

Thats interesting on the B-2, I was not aware that it had insignea on top of the right wing aswell :-)

As for "toning it down" a little, I think I would maybe try shoot a matt or semi sheen clear coat over it all. This tends to make the contrast a little less and blends it all together nicely.

Justin Maybe some extra coats of flat varnish on the black parts will tone it down a little.

Theuns Your 88 is looking great. Your panel line shading is tidier than mine, but I never bother trying to get it too tidy, It's easily fixed later on.

I'm still a bit undecided about what to enter here, I'm a bit like Rob, I don't build many bombers.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

also, I need some advice....on myour B2 Spirit bomber, I painted it the colors in the call out...ocean grey with black around the edges, but that seems to create a contrast that is more than I would like.  The problem  is, I didn't correct it before I applied decals...does anyone have any ideas on how I can weather the bomber to cut the contrast?

there are some awesome builds going on Here!  I can only hope my Gotha comes up to snuff....that pos is kicking my ass,  I hope I can turn it around!

I have probably two to three hours just in making the engines fit inside the engine housings.  The instructions are not clear in any way as to positioning of pieces, and then I end up having to disassemble and reassemble various components as I try to shoehorn the engines into the nacelles.....

My son and I just started on his Revell 1/32 HE-111 P1 that I gave him for his birthday. We'll work on keeping an up-to date WIP on this one. This thing is going to be a monster! I hate seeing the manufacturer's information molded into the kit pieces. That said, the production year of 2011 was interesting to see inside the wing panel.

I've gotten a lot done on the bomber since I posted cockpit pics. I've painted the Arado, mostly with Vallejo Model Air RLM Maritime/Tropical colors, with some postshading with Tamiya paints. I applied the fantastic Revell of Germany decals (Behind airfix, these are fast becoming my favorite to work with.) I then sealed the decals with Tamiya clear. Right now, I'm just letting the clear set for a day or two, and then I'm going to get started weathering.

I know the feeling Theuns. I have to try and steady my hand when doing straight lines. But that pre shading looks pretty good to me.

Bob Seger sings when he was younger "my hands were strong and steady, my eyes were clear and bright"

After yesterday , looking at my preshading efforts I think at 47 I dont poses either of these trates anymore  LOL!

Maybe because I was cleaning and prepping 2 C-47 elevators for a re-cover yesterday my hands were a little more shaky than usual.

The bottom has a lighter shading than on the top, the blue tends to take the shading quite well and on top the dark camo covers it fast so you need to  be carefull with painting it on.

My cell pix dont show the color well but this is HU 65 with the shading just showing through to the naked eye so I am happy woith that

IMG_20180326_173519 by Theunis van Vuuren, on Flickr

I decided to rather paint on the fuse ID band as I have not had allot of luck using them in decal form.

Hoping the weather is hot so I can get the painting done asap, I dont like leaving masking on clear bits to long.

Theuns

I HATE masking canopies  :-(

Theuns

I'm just relearning this hatred; working on the B-25, probably the first bomber I've built in this century, maybe even the last twenty-five years or more. It is a glass nosed bomber, probably a B-25B.

The kit decals are stickers, but a long time ago I obtained a set of Third Group decals for a B-25J. I got them because the markings are near identical to the kit stickers with the exception of the 2-digit number on the tail. They are shark teeth, US stars and some yellow registration numbers. Close enough for me.

Anyway, I am tempted to paint the glass all OD like some planes I've seen.

I am still not sure what scheme to go with, there are a few splinter ones, a mottle desert one and a splinter with meander lines....
