My apologies to everyone.  I've been very busy at work and on the road a lot lately, been dealing with the anniversary of my wife passing, and spending time with my awesome kids.  Of which, they have been taking turns getting sick.  LOL!

I have had a little time to get to the B-24.  I had to get some national insignia for the 24 to match the AOR they were in and time frame.  Then I tried to mask all the plexiglass areas on the B-24....and yes, I gave up!  LOL!  I ordered an EZ Mask set for it.    So here are some pics for you.  I hope to have more for you today or tomorrow...I'm hoping to get some bench time in.  Enjoy.

Hello everyone,

I have completed the gloss coats on the Airfix Stuka, using Alclad Aqua Gloss, I used two coats in total, top and bottom.

I also, for the third time!, masked and resprayed the spinner till I finally was happy with it. Its not great, but I think it will suffice. I also added a gloss coat to this before assembley.

I also then spent a little time sorting out all the decals I will be requiring. I will be using the excellent Xtradecal set X72118, Luftwaffe Battle of Britain, and the Stuka is the same as the one displayed in the curent Airfix kit, but I didnt have any decals for it. I will be doing the Me 110, Do 17 and Junkers JU 88 in the future so they will get used.

I have work this week, and then am off to Spain for a long weekend break, so might try to get a little decaling one evening, well see.

Now I just need to finish the Gotha IV...but that thing is frustrating me right now....

I have found that for thinning enamel like Humbrol I get very good results with mineral turpentine. It does not lead to pigment seperation when using thinners.

This way I can get the paint to a consistincy of milk, then it sprays well.

Morning all,

I have commenced the painting of the Stuka, first of all was the coat of Humbrol 242, to represent RLM 71, it was an old tin that I got at SMW 17, and was a bit thick when i opened it, but it sprayed a treat with thinners. After a quick rub down with 12000 MicroMesh pad I masked with a combination of Tamiya tape and frisket film, looks a bit colourful.

Next coat, was the Humbrol 241, RLM 70, again an old tin, and it took a lot of thinning.I also did the undercarriage seperate in both colours and the flaps. The siren props had a covering of Humbrol 27000 Matt Aluminium.

And this is how it looks this morning, ready for an Alclad Gloss Aqua coat, or two.

Chad that is some real patience you have on the He-111, its coming on a treat though. Theuns, the Junkers JU-88 does look great, I have the Revell one in my stash.

My JU 88 was the same, great detail but fit issues...I HATE filling and sanding :-(

Have you ever had one of those kits that you become quite tired of and you just want to be done as quickly as possible? This is one of those kits. The interior went together well enough but the exterior has succumbed to a few fit problems. Particularly the seam along fuselage, the wing roots, and the engine covers.  I’m careful to test fit parts prior to gluing them but I still ran into problems.  As with most Airfix kits I’ve built, some parts were quite thick and the plastic is soft which created some irregular joints. But, the show must go on. 

Yep, the antennaes and the counter weights under the wings always seem to break off for me!  But, it looks like your more than halfway there!

I hate those antenna masks, as prone to breaking at pitot tubes. I always try and leave them off until last.

Stuka has come on nicely Mark.

Thanks Bish, well today was a day of minor disasters. First of all while removing the mask from the underside, post the application of RLM 65, the radio aerial snapped in half, it wasnt very sturdy anyway and looked fragile, so the hunt for a replacement has begun!

I had also decided to repaint the prop spinner band after being unhappy with the result that I had. It looked like the Luftwaffe fitter was drunk while painting it, so I have started the progress of paint stripping. Its there on the bottom right on my bench. Mind you I was happy with the Xtracolor Enamel RLM 65, nice texture and finish and easy to spray.

So onwards and upwards, post a ton of Tamiya Masking Tape, I have applied a coat of Humbrol Matt 242, (RLM 71) and will leave for a day or two. Undercarriage has been assembled, and was painted at the top and will await RLM 70 when I do the second colour coat.

Now that mottling looks very cool indeed :-)

Mark, for your JU87, what paint you using for the RLM 70/71?

I used Humbrol 241 and 242, they work really well and colour match is good.

Stuka has come on nicely Mark.

Hi everyone,

Apologies, Its been a while since I last posted and advised on progress on the Airfix Junkers Ju-87, things like work and family life have got in the way a bit, and as we have a nice long weekend and holiday here, I have managed to get a few hours in on the Stuka.

Fuselage work is complete, and a lot of time went on the masking of the canopy, ready for the application of primer. The masking set is used was the Pee-Wit set, and although cheaper than the Eduard set I must say is inferior as the masks kept peeling off! You can see some on the canopy here.

I have kept the undercarriage off, to paint seperate from the underside as they are the same colour as the top, RLM 70 and 71.Also I will fit the slats after decaling as they are bound to break knowing me!

I will mask and paint the underside tomorrow given the chance, and paint the slats and undercarriage.

She's finally done! I didn't get everything with her I wanted to do done- however, I got fed up with the project (no fault of the kit's- I just wanted to work on something else). I ended up going with an 'Afrika Korps Counter-Attack 1946' Scheme. All decals were from the kit, save the little unit patches (from some Italian aircraft) and the swastika's, which I pulled from a Tamiya He 162. For a wash, I used Flory Models Dark Earth. I LOVE the Flory Models washes- they are a pain to get in the US, however. I'm dreading when I run out of my current stash. Besides that, weathering was kept basic. Chipping was done with a sponge and silver enamel paint, and gun residue was replicated with Tamiya Weathering Master. I misplaced a cannon barrel, so I broke from the kit and decided that my Ar 555 had cannon ports instead of protruding barrels. Finally, to wrap it all up, I used EZ-Line Fine Black to create rigging, and gave the glass a scrub with NOVUS 1.

Ok, so I came at the B2 with a multi-pronged attack....first, I mixed some of the ocean grey with some Luftwaffe grey violet to darken it up a bit, and thinned it a lot.  I sprayed that as a filter over the whole aircraft.  Then I used Tamiya smoke to almost post shade the aircraft, followed by a flat clear.

i am pleased with how it looks.  once the flat has dried, I just need to mask the open bomb bays and spray it white and paint the munitions....I will add pics when I get home....
