Sorry if it's come up before Greg - I'm new to posting on forums so please let me know if I'm out of order. I don't mind screws when they're used as axles or in discrete places and easily hidden, but holding the fairings on? Anyway, it'd be less rewarding if it was too easy, right?

I've never seen a tamiya motorcycle kit that I recall, and have wondered about the screws, holes, and locations. They've been mentioned in this thread before, perhaps by you.

Sorry for your frustration, but thanks for showing an example pic.

I love Tamiya bike kits but the screws are somtimes aggravating.

I want to replace this mounded mesh with something more convincing but there's a screwhole through it. This is when a nice relaxing build turns into an exercise in frustration.

I just want to say thank you all for the nice compliments. I put in a lot of hours into these bikes. I wish everyone the best & I am seeing some awesome work in here. I just hope to place. But good work guys and I can't wait to the next issue of fine scale model mag.

Greentracker,

Can I change the kit I'm doing for this? I was building a little C100 to mark its 60th anniversary but I seem to have lost its forks.

Can I build this CX500 turbo instead? Some 80s nostalgia, plus very little chrome to contend with and a big plus is that it's shaft drive. No chain to break and ruin!

Speaking of black paint, my frame is all lacquered up and nowhere to go.

The frame was fun to build. Hit the already black stryrene with one coat of black Alclad primer (I love that stuff), then brushed on (ahem, clearing throat....Future 50:50 to water), mostly becauseI didn't want to waste more Alclad Black getting the finish as glossy as desired.

Geez, Bill. When a seasoned modeler like you has an incident, it makes me feel human.

Sorry to hear. I'm with John, not quite sure what did it. Was the Krylon the culprit, and if so, why? Does it not play well with Alclad? (I've done home repair touch-ups with Krylon as a lad**, that's about it (**read, under 50).

FWIW, I've had numerous strip and re-do's on this motorcycle kit, and it's all been due to chrome and various Alclad issues, all of which have been operator error, not Alclad problems.

I have faith, you'll get it all squared away.

Ouch!  That's a shame.  Was it not smooth enough or was a lacquer Vs ? Issue

Thanks,

John

Well I did a stupid thing. When will I learn?

I stripped all of the chrome parts which should be aluminum, in prep for Alclad. Dried them. Primed with gloss black. I ran out of square black Testors about halfway through, so I rummaged around in the shed and found a rattle can of Krylon Gloss Black. At this point I should have heard Mr. Bill...

"Noooooooooooooooo...."

Got everything painted. Waited the required five days. During which time I went by a HL and bought out their square bottle gloss black shelf.

Today was warm and sunny. Set up the a/b, layed out the various Alclads, charged the cup and sprayed the parts. Within 1/2 hour I had the worst orange peel you've ever seen.

Currently stripping it all again.

Stupid stupid stupid.

 Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Gentlemen,

I apologize for being awol. Between family, work, and modeling blahs, I haven't even looked at my bench in 3 weeks. But, I'll do my best to catch up.

@Ghost,

Both bikes look amazing! I really like the paint jobs! Great job!

@John,

That Panigale turned out fantasic. The colors on the exhaust are very realistic. It makes me want to take it for a spin!

@Greg,

The fix for the break line is perfect. Hey, you can always leave the chain guard off! Just a thought!

@GM,

I really looking forward to seeing that RC166 take shape!

I have three GB to finish before the end of the year, so I have to get my tail in gear. And the MotoGP season starts next year on March 10th in Qatar. The Doctor will not be happy with me if I don't have his mount ready!

I had enough trouble adjusting the spokes and chain on my 1:1 bike.

Good observation. Yes

Ahah! Just what we were talking about, right over the edge I would go.

I had high dollar car kit as a kit** which had individual spokes. I don't think I ever finished the spokes, let alone the car. What a waste(ful little fella).

Edit: ** I meant as a kid. Geez

Yes, it's a PE chain. There's also a detail up set with wheels that have individual spokes.

And to answer your next question...Oh Hell No!

Small pic, small laptop screen, bad eyes.......

What is it? Looks like a PE set, I think I see that.

Thanks, Scott.

Yes, I think building a chain bit by bit might be the last link in whatever sanity I have left. Surprise

Greg

Crisis averted.

The little brass thing below is a piece of copper from the aforementioned 20 gauge wire. Amazing. It is where the little plastic protrusion Bill was talking about was before it broke off. FWIW, it is .031" dia.

The next pic just shows the hose attached to it.

It has since occurred to me this will all be hidden by the chain cover, so the hose could have been attached to nothing and nobody would have ever known. Zip it!

I sure appreciate all the help here. These hose troubles would have set me back probably forever back in the build all alone days.

Thats a fine job of adding that pin.

I am looking at that chain and thinking, man, that would be cool if there was an aftermarket PE kit that had the links to put together.  Then I thought, yup, thats why I don't build motorcycles or armor in order to avoid projects like that.Big Smile
