Still trucking along with the Voodoo.  I'll be stuck on the next phase for a while too, filling seams, and sanding.

Co-pilot says Hi!  Lol.

I will post some pictures in the next few days I am not enjoying this kit so I am a bit frustrated at the moment. This is my first Roden kit and will probably be my last and I have worked on some difficult kits but this thing is terrible as far as fit and warping. I have even assembled several williams brothers kits. They were great compared to this thing.

Keyda - great progress.  Pit looks good.

Castlenuevo - I wasn't familiar with the aircraft and was thinking that looks kinda Russian green.  After googling the aircraft -boom!

Boom??

Boom means you're spot on

Thanks,

John

Got paint down on the MiG-21R. I picked this because I love the garish Cuban colors.

First up, I started with Tamiya RAF Dark Green. I have only seen a few photos of this scheme, and the one at the air museum in Havana (which is this particular airframe) is clearly a restore/repaint, so I'm not using it as gospel and just went with what looked close.

Untitled

Next up was the blue. I used Mr. Paint SU-27 Blue because I figured it was at least something in the communist system and would likely be close enough. I went with Tamiya Royal Light Gray for the bottom. The green panels are straight Tamiya Green, and the metallics are Mr. Paint Steel and Alclad Burnt Iron dusted with Mr. Paint Steel.

<Untitled

Next up is painting the wingtips, then decals.

Tony, got you updated.

Theuns, I think that would fit in with the theme of the GB.  I'll get you added to the roster.

Keyda, those seats look really good!  Overall great job on the cockpit

Thanks, all. Yeah that cockpit color is something else.

I've built other Eduard Weekend Edition kits, and aside from the MiG-21 and Bf-109E-7, they all can be built OOB with no additions. If you have the Profipacks, they typically will have the plastic bits called out to be discarded in favor of PE, but they are still present (think instrument panels, armor plating, etc.)

Still painting all the bits before I start glueing everything together.  It should start to look like a plane soon anyway.

Supposed to be the bright blue/green cockpit color is to help battle fatigue during long flights. Don't have any experience either way though. No clue.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Tony,

If you think the Soviet Blue/Green cockpit color is vivid on a model, you should see it real life.

Nice work Brandon, Keyda and John!

Silentbob,

I'll just be doing the Global Hawk for this build so take off the Predator please.

Looks sharp Brandon.  When it comes to the jet era, the Soviet Union/Russians built such beautiful airframes

Thanks,

John

Great starts guys. Also good to know about the weekend edition of that mig I didn't know there wasn't any plastic options for the PE will have to check my few weekend kits to see if they are the same way (they are not migs)

Wohoo! Mailman brought me some goodies today! Although I’ve been distracted with a couple other builds, the first is Tamiya’s A6M5 Zero, which has received its bottom camouflage color. The second is a BMW 328i in the iconic Jägermeister scheme, which got most of its decals tonight. I suspect I’ll be starting my F-6B towards the end of this month.

Ive been looking for reference photos to go off, but internet searches have not proven super fruitful. I’ve got both the Detail & Scale and Walkaround books for early P-51s, but not much to see regarding exterior shots of particular planes. Anyone have any ideas?

Ok, I've been working on the MiG-21R.

Got the cockpit together, and since I'm going closed canopy on this one, I didn't bother weathering it much beyond a simple wash. I used the kit seat with provided SuperFabric seatbelts, and only after I'd closed it up got a pair of seats for it for almost free. Oh well. One can go in the MF I have in the stash, and the other can just sit in the spares box.

Untitled

The fuselage halves joined beautifully, and Eduard provided a single-piece spine that joins with a half-and-half tail piece to really limit the centerline seam. The ventral fin helps with that underneath, and a nose piece helps up front.

I did buy the Barracuda shock cone that will let me install that piece after the build. They advertise it as being able to let you work on the interior seam in the intake, but you can't see it. What I like is not having to mask it, and being able to add nose weight when the build is over so I don't get it wrong and have a tail sitter.

One place this kit falls down a bit is on the wing join. My understanding is that this is specifitc to the MiG-21R and that the others don't have the issue. But what I ran into was about a 0.5mm gap where the lower fuselage (which is molded with the wings) joins at the leading edge area.

So I cut Evergreen sheet, shoved it into the opening and glued it, then came back with the sander.

Untitled

So then it was time to lay down some primer and check the main assembly.

Untitled

So now I have a little bit of cleanup after filling a few small joints with sprue goo, and then I need to add some fins and such, then it's on to paint.

Nope, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth or forgot about this GB, lol.  I've been busy with summer projects and activies, and haven't spent much time indoors.  Today was kind of a crappy day, and it looked like it was going to rain all day, so I started on the Voodoo.

Some bits painted, fuselage halves already glued together.

Might get some more done tonight, not sure though.  I have to cut the grass, boo for yard chores, lol.

Here's basically what I started with,  this kit was a raffle win so it was started already, just the cockpit.   had to remove and reposition some stuff there already,  glued the upper and lower wings together and thinned out the nacelle cooling flaps.

I hear ya Eagle. I'm just about to the point where I need to build some custom shelves for my completed builds in my mancave. I have a few larger kits that I've had to hold off on building because I have nowhere to put them when they're done.

Good to see this one getting started keavdog!  I've been looking forward to this since I first read about the mission in the feeler thread.

Got you updated Eagle, and I've got to say that's a good choice!  Like they say, go big or go home

Thank you sir.....yeah, but going big means finding room.  LOL!  I put the two fueslage pieces together and set it up on my shelves....woah, she takes up some real estate!!  And that's before the wings are on! LOL
