Looks good Robert, trust you have better luck than me with super glue - my experience has been hit and miss.

The van is coming together now...

Robert: That looks good! And I know what you mean, I can't seem to build anything without at least one part getting broken or lost.

As I realize the calendar is ticking down to the end of my GB commitments, I am reporting in with my project at the 11th hour!  My kit is a 1/72 Tamiya A6M2b Mitsubishi Zero.

I don't have a massive number of WIP shots, since as a non-aircraft builder once I got going I really didn't want to stop!

Everything has been hand painted thusfar.  I went with Lt. Saburo Shindo's markings, flying off the Akagi.

I did suffer two disasters, one being that a landing strut snapped off at the base, hoping my heavy duty super glue holds up!  Second is that the clear sprue with all the cockpit canopies was stepped one, and the foot won.  I ordered a vacuform replacement, it needs some surgery because the kit has the two tabs on the sides that hold the plastic canopy in place.  I have to trim those off, or somehow cut a slot in the vacuform piece.  Neither look to be easy to me...

I will hopefully finish this up and will have a completed picture by the end of this upcoming weekend, and then I can scroll through all the other pages of everyone else's work!

The chipping on the zero looks really cool.

On my Kate progress has been painfully slow for an eazy build but I will beat it into submition before the deadline. I just need the canopy and undercart to be painted and instsalled still.

As you can see this is a really weathered beat up plane of the IJN

BTW: Is there any point of putting up an interest post for JGB IX? I'm going to try to get the badges up and ready and will post the main thread soon. As usual we're still going here till Dec 31, 2019.

Thanks Gam and guys.

I have an idea for next years kit. It will be a Kawasaki plane of some sort I think.

Super result there Steve! Nice accident with the tape taking up the green. Well done getting it done within the deadline.

The van continues on, decaling on the body, lanterns and the flags.

Thanks for the good and quick suggestion Steve.  I had heard of salt and hair spray for effects.  I will try the AK stuff,  I think there are a few big sales going on so a great oppurtunity to stock up.

   Thanks.

Thanks guys.

Nino, I use AK's chupping fluid and spray acrylic over that. A wet stiff brush or Q-tip will rub off areas that you want. The wing chipping was cause by masking off for the yellow recognition stripe and it came off with the tape, I liked it so I left it. I then chipped the Hinomaru where the wing was chipped.

Looks real nice, Steve.  I need to try a tired japanese paint scheme someday.

That's some fine chipping on the upper wing. What method was used?

Thanks Gam,

Almost done, I need to add some dot filtering, exhuat staining and dull coat it.

Thanks Gam,

I had A little setback due to a silver base coat issue but back on track. I'm letting everything dry for a couple of hours and taking a break.

Once everything is dry I start the chipping and decals, then weathering.

Piers: That looks good! Love the wood look you've got going in the bottom photo.

My apologies- I saw your post the other day on my phone and then promptly forgot about it. Been on holiday/vacation and suffering from a little shellfish allergy. Feeling much better now, will not be eating shrimp every other day next time I go to the beach. Ick!

So the bits took a bit of filling in

Then base coated tan

Then used burnt umber oil paint to create a wood grain appearance.

Plenty of work to go yet.

Piers: The van looks cool! Seems like the detail parts are going to require quite a bit of work though.
