The Forgotten War GB 2020
Posted by John 3:16 KJV on Sunday, December 1, 2019 7:39 PM

GB DESCRIPTION:

Welcome to the 2020 Forgotten War GB commemorating the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War! Models of equipment that were used in the Korean War (1950-1953) and any figures that represent the soldiers who fought in the Korean War may be modeled in this GB. This GB will run from January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020. (However you can start in December 2019 if you want.) Additionally, I am hosting an informal contest in this GB. For info on it, please keep reading.

Welcome Sign

GROUND RULES:

Please,

-No foul language/rude behavior

-No scantily or not-at-all clad women on models

-Only models can be entered that fit within the guidelines of the GB description

-All model entries must be named (as a diorama would) when they are completed

The Contest:

This will be a friendly competition among the members of this GB to build the best model/diorama in the GB as determined by the popular vote of the GB participants; and the winner will receive a prize that is yet to be announced. (It might not be much; but it’ll be a prize, right? Wink) Rules for the contest are below and must be adhered to by contest participants.

Contest Rules:

Eligibility:

-Must adhere to all the ground rules of the GB

-Must begin and finish your model(s) within the accepted timeframe (Start no earlier than December 1, 2019 and end no later than January 1, 2021.)

-If you are eligible but want to opt out of the contest, please PM me. Thx.

Voting:

-I will not be a contest participant; I will be the judge (vote counter).

-Voting will take place January 2, 2021.

-Every GB participant (whether in the contest or not) excluding myself (I will not vote) is entitled to submit one vote for the model/diorama they think should win.

-Those voters who are also contest participants may not vote for their own entry. They must vote for someone else.

-To vote, PM me on January 2, 2021. In your message, please clearly state the username of the contestant you are voting for along with the name of the model entry he built.

GiftPrize:

-The prize is a Valom 1/72 N.A. L-17B Navion which includes markings for both General MacArthur’s and General Ridgeway’s planes. Only the winner gets the prize.

-Winner will be announced on the main GB page no later than TBA.

-The Winner will be notified by PM.

-Winner has to PM me his address for delivery purposes or forfeit his prize.

-I am not responsible for what the Postal Service does with/to the prize (loses prize/damages prize/etc.) Let’s just hope none of that happens...

———————————————————

I reserve the right to modify/make exceptions to the rules of both the GB and the contest. If you took the time to read all of this, thank you!

Have fun and enjoy, everybody! Big Smile

This sounds interesting as my first group build.  My dad served in the Korean War as a 81mm mortar crew chief, so whatever I build will be in his honor.  I can't decide between the 1/48 Monogram F9F or the Pro-Modeller 1/48 F84G.  Put me in for both and I'll get at least one done.

I'm planning on building a 1/35 Tamiya M41 Walker Bulldog. It would fit nicely into this GB.

My opinion follows.

When did the notion of contests here ever become something to do?

Contests by their nature have winners and (not winners).

I'm going to try to build a 1/48th Tamiya P-51D as a ROK (South Korean) F-51D.

At the rate I'm defaulting on the GBs I join I'm not sure I should even enter though Confused

I will gladly join this GB, but I must rummage through the stash to find what my build will be. I am sure that with all the WW2 kits there, I can come up with something though.

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Sure thing and Welcome!

Underneath the GB badges, there’s a link to a webpage where you can maybe pick up some ideas; or you could go really out of the box and build a ship that participated in the Korean War. Big Smile

I decided on the 1/72 Italeri B-26K, and I'll add the Quickboost engine set and also a resin tail correction set from Whirleybirds.

WOW!  I got the 1/72 M24 Chaffee in the mail yesterday.  I ordered the Mamoth Edition and all I can say is wow!  I hope I can build it in a reasonable amount of time, looks like a thousand parts, brass barrel, photo etch, resin wheels and decals.  The box is huge!

Will post photos soon.
