Messerschmitt/MBB GB
Posted by Bish on Thursday, November 19, 2020 2:04 PM

Welcome to the 2021 Messerschmitt MBB Group Build. As the name suggest, its open to subjects produced, wholly or partly by the Messerschmitt company and those produced by the MBB company which was created in 1968 with the merger of Messerschmitt, Bollkow and HFB.

Subject can include those designed and built by BFW from 1927 when Willy Messerschmitt joined the company, so early Bf 109's and other subjects are included.

And the GB is not only open to aircraft. After the war the company turned to makeing motorsycles. And, in their factory, a company set up by Fritz Fend built cars, commonly known as bubble cars.

After the formation of MBB, the company produced its own aircraft as well as joining partnerships in building a number of aircraft. They also produced missiles and spacecraft, includeing spacelad.

Any project the company took part in until it became defunct in 1989 can be included. Anything built by Airbus after this date is also allowed.

If you have thoughts on a subject that i have not covered, please ask and i will look into it.

These Wiki sites list projects by both companies.

Now the rules.

1) Starts Jan 1st 2021 and ends Dec 31st of the same year.

2) As long as the build is on the roster by Dec 31st, you can carry on building and posting as long as it takes.

3) Post plenty of pics.

4) Going off topic is expected, as long as your chatting and haveing fun, thats all that matters.

5) Partly started builds and cross overs are allowed.

6) Finally and most importantly, the word Spitfire is here by offically banned from rearing its head in this thread. Thats the one and only time it will be mentioned.

Any questions, ask.

And here's your choice of badges, please pick and post one.

Now, sign up and enjoy.

I'm in! And thank you. I have the 1/48 Eduard Adlerangriff BF 109E in the Battle of Britain boxing in front of me and that's what I'll start with. Undecided on which schemes yet. There are several that I like so there may be some Overtrees in my future. Also need to get photo hosting set up but I will do that soon. I will be in the process of moving over the next couple weeks but should be operational by the start date. Looking forward to this!

My phone is having problems so, I like the first badge.

Here's an idea for you Bobby.

That is brilliant!  I was watching a doc the other day and it showed this aircraft, but I wasn't sure if it was an actual aircraft or artist "guess".  But I think I will do this one!  Now for the decals....and we know my luck with decals.  LOL!  Thanks Bish!
Oh, here's the kit I'm doing.

Apparently it was only flown once like this, Spate was not to happy with his ground crew and had them re-paint it. There are AM decals for this aircraft. But some basic German serials would do the job.

I'm in.  I've got three unbuilt Bf-109 kits; I don't kniw if I will get them all built, but I'll start out with my ICM Bf-109F-2 kit.  Which leads me to a question: does anyone know if this ICM kit is similar to their Spitfire Mk. IX kit?  I just built one of those and was very frustrated.  It had a nicely detailed Merlin engine that you could build into the plane, BUT if you wanted the fuselage closed up (i.e., the engine access panels NOT opened up) you had to leave the engine out!  There was no way you could close it up with the engine installed, even though the instructions showed otherwise.  In talking to other modelers who had already built the same kit, they said that even though it was not in the instructions, that it was fairly common knowledge (news to me!) that you couldn't install the engine unless you wanted the plane opened up.

I see that this kit has a full Daimler 601 V-12 engine, so I was wondering if it was going to have the same issue as the Spit?

The Spitfire is an early ICM kit and they had a lot of molding issues early on.  I built the Mark XVI and it's very nice when done but it took 2 or 3 kits to get there.  They were luckily very cheap at the time.  I don't have the 109 F-2 but it is 7 or 8 years newer so perhaps it is better.  The later releases of the Spitfire are better than the first ones, I've heard.

Picked this up for this build today....

An Aires cockpit and wheel well detail up set. I won't be going too awful crazy with this build but I do at least want some detail. I'll be working mostly on my painting/ weathering skills on this one anyhow.

There are some real masters of the craft in this group build, but I’m still excited to try.  These are my two entries, and if I haven’t embarrassed myself too much, maybe more.

Thanks Bish.
