Frank, That looks spectacular. I love the idea of dusting it with a light coat of thinned Tamiya buff. I may have to try that some time.

On a side note, Today I placed an order with Ultracast for some 5 spoke Spitfire wheels and resin flared exhausts for the Hasegawa Mk IXc. I have already gotten started on the cockpit. She is full time on the bench now that the Komet is done.

The "reverse Lend/Lease" Spitfire Mk VIII is on the shelf. The build depicts an aircraft of the 308th FS, 31st FG, 15th AF, Italy, early 1944. I used Gunze paints for the topside camouflage, Dark Earth and Middle Stone over my own mix MM enamel for Azure Blue on the underside. The theater stripes are Tamiya Flat Yellow and the spinner is Tamiya Insignia Red. The decals are BarracudaCals. The decals were a little stiff(?). It took a lot of Solvaset to get the decals to conform to the surface detail. The tail got the RAF fin flash since there was nothing to fill the space on the tail, like no serial number. After the decals were on, I dusted the whole plane with Tamiya Buff thinned 10/1 to give it a dusty look and kind of tie all the colors together. The exhaust and gun smoke stains are pastel stick scrapings applied with a small brush. The whole build is sealed with Testors Dullcote. As always, comments and critique are welcome.

Tojo, you won't be disappointed. Just be sure you have a good gloss coat applied and it has has time to cure before you apply the stencils. I usually apply the gloss coat, wait 24 hours at least, apply the stencils, and then paint the second color. Good luck. I'm sure you'll be pleased.

That's coming along nicely Frank. I have never used precut stencils before but that sure looks like the way to go

Those stencils are vinyl and easy to apply. The adhesive is a little aggressive so you have to be sure the paint is well cured so it doesn't come up when the stencils are removed.

The first times I used the stencils, on a Flying Tigers P-40B and a Bell P-400 Airacobra, I let the paint cure for a week and applied Tamiya Clear Gloss before applying the stencils. Some of the enamel paint still came up. On the Spitfire, it is painted with Mr. Color acrylic paint and after curing for 24 hours, it took the stencils very nicely. No paint came up.

Frank, looks like the stencils look great,I got mine from your source, looking to trying them out

JB, true, it seems pretty straight-forward.  The only complaint I have is the painting instructions for the interior seem to be missing, or I'm missing them completely.

Oh, well!  Now where did I put that bottle of hot-pink that all Supermarine cockpits were supposedly painted in?  Wink

John, Gamera thanks for the comments.

Thanks Bish, I might come back again after I get a few more builds done. I have an Eduard Mk IX in my stash that i want to do in an Israeli scheme.

Gary that is a good little kit, mine went together well with no issues.

Bish,

While I'm waiting on fair weather so I can finish up the restoration of a Monogram Mk.IIc Hurricane, I thought I would tackle something a bit more relaxed.  Smile

It's a Mk.Ia "Airplane That Shall Not Be Named".  It's Airfix and 1/72nd scale.

It's so... small!

Bish.

Since I am almost done the Komet for the MBB gb, I need a new allied project. (I alternate Axis and Allies in my builds Smile ) I would love to get in on this one. I have an Hasegawa Spitfire Mk.IXc "Kenley Wing" in 1/48 I need to build. I picked this one up back in 2005 and it is due to be built. This was one of the first kits I bought when I got back into building in 2005. I also have a prop and spinner from "the Dept of Correction" and I have a set of Eaglecal decals, but I am not sure I want to use them for this one.

Well done, JB.  But be careful, 3 Spits in one spot might cause Martin an upset!

Great Job Nick! I also like your runway background

Frank that spit is coming along nicely, looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I finished up my Mk1 this evening. I think I had more trouble running the antenna cable, the super glue just didn't want to hold.

Frank: That looks fantastic to me! I mean considering the amount of sun bleaching I wouldn't worry too much about the colour.

The clear gloss deepens the color . When you use clear flat it will lighten up a bit more .

Thanks, guys. I sprayed the theater bands on the wing tips the other day and later today I'll give a coat of Tamiya gloss before doing decals.

I had three group builds going, and thanks again to Bish, now four group builds. I'm having a tough time keeping up with myself.

Don't i know that feeling. I have trouble trying to remember what GB i am building for, and thats just for the ones i am hosting.

Yeah, it's not like I'm not accustomed to having two, three, or even four builds going on my bench at one time. Sometimes it's like herding cats though.

And Crown, sure enough, I shot the Tamiya gloss and the camo changed color again. Still not used to that happening. Oh well.
