That's a very nice Catalina there, Harold. And thanks for posting the link to the Vallejo varnish instructions - I've had some very odd results previously with their gloss varnish, which now look to be entirely "operator error" (as usual!)

Ferg, sorry to hear about your missus, hope she is getting better. The aluminium, that was too rough - I had not prepared it well enough. So sand it back down and try again.

Harold, the Cat is looking superb. Great masking on all the glasswork, and super work on the camo

Cliff, it looks like the gloss coat has done it's trick. I have been using Vallejo Metal varnish - sems to work well. Now to get an acrylic flat coat where i can get a consistent result.

So I made up group badges as jpgs and uploaded them as we do for any pictures.

The badges at the start of the GB, anyone can copy the link and then display them in their signature.

Just finished decaling the Winjeel, and happy with how it is coming along.

I had found quite a few bits of hair and crud caught in the paint that I have sanded out with 2000 grit paper without needing to repaint.

Looking very schmick old mate. Incidentally, the PM system is not working.

She looks fantastic to me Piers! All that masking had to be a pain.

After the decals went on, there has been a clear coat, some washes to define control surfaces and the canopy and nose given a flat coat. Then I got to take the canopy masking off. Doing that there are are a few scratches in the black framing which will need touching up.

The front wind screen is a bit foggy - not sure why as I had future coated it before construction. I will give it a while to see what happens before I work out next steps. You can also see the the engine, uncovered for the first time in a while.

Not much more to do, I have read that the main undercarriage is a bit dodgy (not you Ferg) and needs a bit of care to get right.

Thanks Harold, having watched your meticulous preparation and execution, that is high praise.

I have taken plenty of time getting the main undercarriage properly aligned. I have also added a few PE details brake lines, wipers, grille and exhaust.only the wheels, prop and lights to go.

The camouflage painting and deicing boots are finished on the parasol wing. Next few steps are engine and nacelle assembly and painting, then varnish and wing roundels

Cliff, Harold and Ferg, thanks for your very kind comments, here are the finished photos.

The RedRoos model was a great build and went together well, the exception being the fitting of the seats in the cockpit and the main undercarriage. The decals were very good and went down well.

I was happy with the result, this was a great part of going to local airshows from when I was a kid and I just had to get the model when I saw it.

I know its a little late, but I finally wrapped up my 1/72 Hasegawa Mitchell MK.III RAAF.

I painted it using Vallejo Metal Color, Vallejo Model Air and Mr Color paints in aluminium, dark aluminium, super silver and chrome. Added a ton of weight to the front wheel bay, behind the instrument panel and in the engine nacelles. I made a few mistakes on this one. Namely using vallejos gloss black primer on the fuselage. On the wings I used Tamiya gloss black as a primer under the metalizer. No problems. Masked individual panels with no issues. Not so on the fuselage. Had numerous spots where the paint peeled when I removed masks. I cut around the panels and reprimed and repainted. cant even tell. I used a CriCut to make canopy masks from images I downloaded, I also made masks for the roundel. I took about a year off building anything due to burnout. picked it back up about 2 weeks ago and wrapped it up yesterday. Unfortunately it was one day after Australia Day!

There she is.  A Few mistakes were made but considering all things, I am happy with the result. A few spots I could have smoothed out seams better but I can live with it.

That is a great NMF, which always scares me off! I cannot see any signs of your issues on the fuselage, and it is a great mix of tones.

The weathering is nicely done too, the right level for a bare metal aircraft in service.

And I do love your touch with the bomb too, that made me laugh!
