I've sanded this beast so much I'm suprised there are any panel lines left at all.

So another undercoat and guess what???? Yep more sanding! Now I'm getting the grinder out Piers! That nose has been a pain. I drilled and opened the exhausts before putting them on and they worked a treat, sadly they don't show up well in the photo. Despite the work I'm really enjoying the build. and my decals have arrived.

Ah Dodgy, looks like you have a bit of work still to go there. But the shape of it looks pretty good.

The Hawk continues on, the light grey is repainted and all the decals are on. Next is a clear coat and weathering after that. Still not sure about the colours, think I have stuffed up the colours, no giong back now though.

Looks pretty bloody good to me LA and yes to the Otaki Spits shape. In someways the kit is a bit problematic and very simple, but I'm enjoying the ride. They have captured the lines of the real thing pretty well though. Almost finished sanding! Next is replacing all the panel lines I've lost.

Here's my latest pic, just to remind you guys I'm still in this. Added the landing gear and the guns. And didn't like how the white looked on the roundels so I sprayed them with some white paint though a circle stencil. Then I noticed somehow I'd gotten overspray on the wing. And I'd sprayed some varnish over it. So I mask the wing off again and resprayed the primary colours.

Thankfully it a small thing, not sure it's noticable on the photo. You should notice a little lighter paint on the gun blisters on the portside wing. I still need to redo the panal lines there and it should darken it back down to match everything else. Anyhow I'm going on holiday next week so hopefully I'll get the canopy done and the model finished by the end of November. 

Or that's the plan anyway...

Can anyone tell me what the 'stubs' are outside the cannon. I have looked and looked at references, but can find no info on this. Are they blanked of cannon ports? Gun cameras????????

I think they're shorter barrel cannons but I'm not totally sure- I'd have to look it up. 

Well, my interest was piqued by the nobbly things on the wing as well - apparently they are the "'C'-wing outboard cannon muzzle fairing (blanked off)", according to this image: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/29/eb/6c/29eb6c90601708c2d81e519bac06b2ab.jpg

Regardless of what they are, that's looking like a very nice Spitfire there Gamera!

Got a little more work done on the CA-15.  The wheel wells are not going to be fun once the top and bottom half of the wings are glued together and got the wing root holes cut out of the fuselage.

A few painting trials there Cliff, but it has come out really well.

Looking good John. Yes the CA-15 was a Mustang on steroids. Like the Martin Baker MB-5 it had better performance than many planes of the time but was overtaken by the advent of the jet age.

She looks good! After all the issues you had with the decals they look perfect now Piers.

Thanks Cliff, there are a few more bits on - got the undercarriage on and the scratchbuilt aeriels all over the plane. Getting close now.

That is great paintwork there Nick, and the wash has really defined the panel lines.

For me, I had hoped the last lot of sanding and undercoat would be the last. Not so. It's now 2050 on Saturday night and I'm off to do some more sanding....@%&*!!

The Hawk was completed last week, finally photographed.

High Planes models 1/48 BAe Hawk 127 Lead in Fighter trainer. It was a bit of an experience getting together, but follow the instructions and it comes together well.

Nice job on the Hawk Piers. Its been a lot of work, but it has really paid off!

Ok Spit is done with filling and sanding. Now it's time to replace all the missing panel lines and then add some war paint.

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), was formed on 31st March 1921 and followed on from the Australian Flying Corps (AFC), itself formed on 22 October 1912.

This GB marking the centenary of formation of the Royal Australian Air Force will run for 12 months from 31st March 2021 to 31st March 2022.

So Cobbers, dig through the stash and get your flying kangaroos on the bench!

Subjects can be anything in RAAF or AFC service, flying or otherwise.

Happy to include planes flown by RAAF pilots in other air forces, or captured aircraft rebadged and flown by RAAF units.

RAAF/AFC has taken part in most of the 20th century's major conflicts. The AFC was involved in the Western front, Mesopotamia and the Dardanelles during WWI. In the Second World War RAAF squadrons served in Britain, with the Desert Air Force and into the Mediterranean. From 1942, many RAAF units fought in South West Pacific Area.

Since then, RAAF has been involved in the Korean War, Malayan Emergency, Indonesia–Malaysia Confrontation and the Vietnam War. This century, the RAAF has participated in operations in Afghanistan, the Iraq War, East Timor as well as myriad humanitarian operations.

Both Bish and you allow crossovers and I think there is enough time between now and March 31, 2022 to finish this big model, or come close to finishing it anyway.
