Formula 1 Group Build Feeler
Posted by keavdog on Friday, June 25, 2021 11:37 PM

I've been buying Formula 1 car models lately and thought it would be fun to get going on  them.  How about a group build for Forumula 1 race cars?

Any Formula 1 cars since 1946, any scale - had to do at least one lap in a Grand Prix

Wouldn't start till March next year if there's interest.

Thanks,

John

I'm not into car models, but I am a huge F1 fan (Go MAX #33)!  Let me think about it, maybe I might be able to persuade myself to try a car model...

I am "F-1 Curious", so yes I'd be interested.  I have a bunch in the stash, so it would be a great excuse to start one.

I like the oddballs such as the Tyrrell P34 6-wheeler and the Brabham BT-46B "suction fan" car.  Go Patrick Depallier and Niki Lauda!

I like this idea. I've been an F1 fan since the '60's. Monaco is my favorite race. I'd like to find an F1 car from that period. Are we limited to plastic car kits? What if one of us finds what we are looking to build and it car is diecast?

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Tamiya make 1/20 Honda RA272 and Lotus 25 Coventry Climax.   They would be in the correct era.  Not sure about diecast.   I supposed stripped and disassembled would be cool.  Kinda like a multimedia kit at that point.

Thanks,

John

Great choices.  I was looking for Lauda and Hunt kits after watching Rush

Keavdog,

Hunt's McLaren is occasionally reissued by Tamiya, but it's one of their older ones.  Due to annoying copyright issues some sponsor decals are missing so must be sourced from the aftermarket.

I loved watching "Rush"!

I might be interested

But would like to build something different than just the usual Tamiya offerings.

Any suggestions of other companies producing quality F1 kits?

I know keavdog picked up some nice ones recently but can't get the shop that sells them to ship to Canada for a reasonable cost.

I'd be good for the 1977 Tyrrell P34 "slug car" or the Brabham BT-46B "suction fan car".  I have a Lotus 79, but that one is too normal.  Stick out tongue

Ill give it a go. Sice it doesnt start till next March, it gives me plenty of time to complete what Im building for Nats next year. ( I live in Omaha where our club is hosting next year).  As of now, I'm not sure exactly which F1 kit I will do. Will advise when the decision is made.

Sounds like a great theme-I've got several Tamiya 1/20 kits in the stash so I'd be interested.

Count me in...

I have built several in scales ranging from 1/43 to 1/12. I like some of the choices being talked about such as a Alfa fan cars or 6 wheel Tyrell car. Some of you mentioned Tamiya, Fujimi, Hasegawa, EBBRO, and Revell. For those interested in the classics, don't forget about the Revival all metal kits; here are a few:

Likewise, Burago made some F-1 toys in 1/14 scale that when torn apart can be rebuilt and turned into something decent:

Tamiya's 1/12 scale is always a very nice kite out of the box and Revell made a 1/12 Shumi Ferrari too. I've also seen some older  F-1  70's era kits by Heller and an early McLaren by Auto Union.

Yes, count me in for sure....

Wow Ben those are great!  I like the photos - inspirational.  Here's my 1/20 Tamiya RA272 and Lotus 25.  Perhaps the pics will inspire folks to join the build.

Thanks,

John

Ben, those are seriously mouthwatering models there.

John, I do like that period of F1 too, built the Lotus in '17 and have the 1/12 Honda in a box for when I am more confident with cars

John,

Those look sweet and I am a sucker for the classics.

I think I'm going in for one of the older Tamiya 1/12 kits. If you don't mind, please help me select from the following choices:

- Lotus 49

- Tyrrell 003 1971 (Jackie Stewart Car)

- Ferrari 312B

- Brabham BT44B

- Tyrrell P34 Six Wheeler

- Honda RA273

- Ferrari 312T

- Renault RE-20T

- Williams FW14B

Tell me which one I should build?....

I'm 100% in!  Love F1 and often attend Grand Prix.  I'll build Senna's Lotus 99T from the 87 season.

Big fan of the Lotus.  But any would be fantastic.  Those are all 1/12?  Wow, nice stash.

Thanks,

John

This sounds great, John.

I couldn't start until May or so, but watching everyone else get started might nudge me to get off my lazy backside when the time comes.

Haven't built a formula since the kid days, but like most here, have a few on my shelf.
